In the U.S., a remarkable respected civil rights attorney; professor; inequality expert started his journey in difficult circumstances, escaping the horrors of war and international sanctions; being buried in quicksand and facing layoffs as well as rejection from grad school. This is the story of Ehsan Zaffar. In Episode 18 of Season 7, Ehsan shares how he grew up in poverty as a refugee in the U.S. That didn't stop him from becoming a lawyer; a civil rights advocate and inequality thought leader; a civil servant for the Federal government; and a professor. Originally from Egypt, and originally trained as a lawyer, Dr. Amr Abdalla has built an extraordinary career as a researcher, academic, teacher, trainer, story-teller and overall good human. In Episode 14 of Season 7 Dr. Amr Abdalla walks us through his journey in Egypt as a young lawyer and his move to the U.S. A remarkable, humble, grounded and very wise account of how he became a globally respected scholar for peace and conflict resolution. Dr. Abdalla is Professor Emeritus at the United Nations-mandated University for Peace (UPEACE). He is also the Senior Advisor on Conflict Resolution at the Washington-based organization KARAMAH (Muslim Women Lawyers for Human Rights).
