What is a Healthy Fear of the Lord?

A lecture given at L’Abri Fellowship in Southborough, Massachusetts. For more information, visit https://southboroughlabri.org/ by Ben Keyes What does the Bible teach us about the fear of the Lord? How is fearing God different from the ordinary fears that we experience in life? Given the negative nature of fear as an emotion, how can we reconcile fear of God with loving and being loved by Him? This lecture will attempt to address these questions and make the case that the fear of the Lord is the foundation for a life of obedience and flourishing. Archaeology and the Bible: Competing or Corroborating Witness?

A lecture given at L’Abri Fellowship in Southborough, Massachusetts. For more information, visit https://southboroughlabri.org/ by Dr. Tom Petter Is the Bible history or theology or a bit of both? If it is history, does the Bible have different ways of recording 'facts' from ours? These questions about the Bible have been debated for centuries with wildly differing conclusions. What does the material record (archaeological data) and the available documentary sources tell us about the world of the Bible? While we can't 'prove' the Bible is historically accurate, there is enough circumstantial evidence that points to the reliability of the historical record of Scripture. (Recommended further reading: On the Reliability of the Old Testament by Kenneth Kitchen) About the lecturer: Dr. Petter received his PhD in Biblical Hebrew Language and Literature and Near Eastern Archaeology from the department of Middle and Eastern Studies at the University of Toronto. As a doctoral student, he was a member of the Tall Madaba Archaeological Project in Jordan. He regularly teaches a course on the history and archaeology of the Ancient Near East at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Revisiting ”The Lord’s Work in the Lord’s Way”

A lecture given at L’Abri Fellowship in Southborough, Massachusetts. For more information, visit  by Ben Keyes In his sermon entitled "The Lord's Work in the Lord's Way," Francis Schaeffer called Christian people to a mentality of radical dependence on God. All too often Christians work for good things, but rely solely on human resources in reaching those goals--the latest programs, techniques and strategies of the world. In doing so, the church loses access to the power of the Holy Spirit which is offered to us in the Bible. In this lecture, we will revisit France Schaeffer's ideas about working "in the Lord's way" and discuss the relevance of his sermon for today. The Gift of Not Knowing Yourself: Learning Alongside the Apostle Peter

A lecture given at L’Abri Fellowship in Southborough, Massachusetts. For more information, visit  by Sarah Chestnut There's no getting around it: we have to live with ourselves (and other people have to live with us, too!). How are we, as Christians, to go about "getting to know ourselves," and does this pursuit ever become a problem? If there are two guardrails that help keep us on the "road of life," one guards against plunging off the cliff of self-ignorance and the other guards against smashing against the cliff of self-obsession. We'll consider that second "rail" tonight, through a close look at the life of Simon Peter in the Gospels. The Copyright for all material on the podcast is held by L'Abri Fellowship.
