Ep 26: The Four Postures of Leadership in the New Reality

On this episode, J.R. talks about posture. There are many leadership resources available today, but few address the way in which we approach leadership. Using the experience of his favorite statues in a plaza (Laborer, Scientist, Poet, and Preacher statues) near the Philadelphia Art Museum, J.R. unpacks what each one can teach us about the four postures of leadership and how we can embrace and exhibit these postures in the new reality. The topic of this episode touches on the content of an e-book I wrote a few years ago titled The 4 Postures of the Spiritual Leader of the Future. GOOD NEWS: You can access the e-book for FREE today. When you sign up to receive the FREE newsletter I will also give you the e-book for free as well. Ep 24: Resilient Leadership and the F Word

Today J.R. talks about the importance of the four letter F word: fail. It’s a powerful force – and if we are to be healthy and resilient leaders we must face this concept of failure directly and courageously.J.R. shares that how you define success will define you – and conversely, how you define failure will also define you. Here are the four reflection questions he submits to resilient leaders:1. What’s your favorite leadership mistake? What’s the leader fail you’ve committed? What was it and why is it your favorite?2. A great question to ask yourself in the midst of failure: “Did we do any learning yet?” “What can I learn and how can I grow from this situation I am in?” “What can I learn for next time?”3. How do you define success? How do you define failure? Because how you define those terms will define you.4. And like Ray Dalio, “Have I or am I creating a culture in which it is okay to make mistakes and unacceptable not to learn from them?”LINK: J.R.’s book on failure he wrote to help ministry leaders – Fail: Finding Hope and Grace in the Midst of Ministry Failure ***If you enjoy this podcast, can we ask a 45 second favor of you? On this episode, J.R. explores one of his coaching tools called the Inner Compass. Ep 22: How to Raise Up Leaders

On this episode we talk about the important topic of how to develop leaders. More specifically, we talk about three crucial steps in the process.First, we focus on their character. Leaders must be FAT (Faithful, Available, Teachable) and hungry.Second, we consider what domain of leadership is needed in developing a particular leader (executing, influencing, building relationships, or thinking strategically). And third, we use the six-part framework of equipping, empowering, and unleashing:TeachDemonstrateObserveEvaluateEncourageEvacuateThe goal is leadership development is not about creating clones; instead, it is about multiplying leaders. Ep 18: Leading Through the Exhaustion

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.
