Montaigne devotes a significant part of the work to discussing friendship, both the rare full type of friendship and the common sorts of friendship. He also discusses erotic or romantic relationships between men and women, marriages, and the male-male sexual relationships of ancient Greece. There are also familial relationships, which would fall under what he calls natural relationships.
