A Depressive Episode

After two looooong and hellish weeks, I have risen from the depressive hole I’ve been stuck in. Weeks of endless rumination, causeless exhaustion, an unfamiliar flavor of hopelessness, an inability to access my real personality or a genuine laugh, and what felt like failing at everything - from my personal relationships to my job and everything in between.    When you’re in a depressive episode, it can feel like time stands still… and you wonder if you’ll ever feel like yourself again. Basics like showering feel next to impossible, and the distance between your bed and the front door feels miles long. And even though the fog has temporarily lifted, and I’m so gratefull to feel like me again, I know my depression will kick in again one day - maybe soon, maybe not - and that truth is hard to accept.   Coming back to life after a depressive episode can feel defeating – to put it lightly. There’s the endless unanswered emails, piles of laundry, missed calls, text messages you haven't responded to, plans you’ve canceled, and friendships you haven’t tended to in weeks… or months. You feel inescapably behind on, well, everything… and the mountain of catch-up you have to climb feels steep as hell. How do you explain to people why you’ve avoided them? How do you make it up to your family members? And beyond that, how do you try to act like yourself when you don’t feel like yourself?     So since I’m freshly on the other side…for now…I thought we should talk about it. Thanks for always being here to listen ❤️ For more about the podcast and my life, you can find me: https://www.instagram.com/jadeiovine/    Executive Producer Catherine Law Audio Engineer Brandon Dickert Hosted on Acast. The Art Of Asking A Favor with Jessica Iovine

Look who’s back!!! By *very* popular demand, my sister and best friend Jessica Iovine is back on the pod and ready to call me out. Our favorite therapist (and big sister) offered some very insightful advice… while I offered some very questionable advice… while Catherine played referee. We sat in the shit together and compared notes on everything that’s been going ~not great~ recently…   We talked *argued* about big sister vs. little sister struggles. I got some advice about a recent drunk reconciliation, we shared our passionate beliefs about gift-opening etiquette, and we discussed the parts of our childhood we’re still working through in therapy.    Fear not, Jess promised she’ll be back to record with us a lot more this season, so get ready for many more sister secrets in the near future!    For more about the podcast and my life, you can find me: https://www.instagram.com/jadeiovine/    Executive Producer Catherine Law Audio Engineer Brandon Dickert Hosted on Acast. Are You Mad At Me? Or Is This Just A Long Distance Friendship?

This week I dumped all of my friendship drama into the TMAI group chat. It seems like maintaining friendships is harder than ever, so I called for an emergency meeting to discuss the main quandaries plaguing our fragile, modern relationships…   Catherine and I dissect friendship love languages and talk about the question everyone seems to be asking: “is my friend mad at me or is it just a long-distance friendship?”    Have you ever wondered:    What do I do if I HATE my friend’s significant other?   How do I tell an acquaintance that I don't want to take the next step and become friends?   How do I know if the roles are reversed - and an acquaintance doesn’t want to be friends with me?   What do I do if my best friend's crisis is starting to take up too much of my life?   What if I’m jealous of my friend's relationship with another friend?   We also discuss the art of shit-talking, and dealing with friends who are “lumpers”.   Oh! And I buried the lead! This episode starts with my mom’s legendary “Bed Recipe” and what exactly you need to create the comfiest bed of all time.    For more about the podcast and my life, you can find me: https://www.instagram.com/jadeiovine/    Produced by Catherine Law Edited and Engineered by Brandon Dickert Hosted on Acast. Cheater, Cheater Pumpkin Eater

Yes, I know, I’ve said it about other episodes in the past, sure, but I really mean it when I say this is one of my favorite episodes in Live From Bed history.   Catherine and I reaaaallllyyy went there. We talked about the politics of friendship when it comes to staying friends with someone your best friend hates. And what about when your best friend maintains a friendship with someone who betrayed you? We discussed the fragile ties that bind us to those precious few for whom we choose to press the “follow back” button. I provided three scenarios and asked Catherine my favorite question: “would you follow them back?”    We got deep into the weeds of cheating by identifying the five types of cheaters, as well as the five ways people cheat. We shared our own experiences and the (shock and awe at) our differing opinions on traditional sayings like, ‘once a cheater always a cheater’ or ‘how you get ‘em is how you lose ‘em’.    We’re dying to hear which one of us you agree with ;). And in a future part two of this episode, we’ll share our cheating stories as well as *yours* - so if you have a juicy one, DM me and you might hear it on the show…anonymously, of course, because snitches get stitches. Significant Others, Strip Clubs, & The Scandoval of It All

Question for you:  How do you react when you hear your significant other is going to a strip club? Is it harmless fun or something more? Do you feel you have a full understanding of what goes on at a strip club? Or even what the rules are if they choose to pay for a private room? Where do you draw the line?   It’s a debate that has been happening for years and yet, we as the females of the world seem to be more divided on this topic than ever…   I tell Catherine about the medium from hell, and we get deeeeeep into the scandal that has taken over all Bravo fans’ brains for the past two weeks…SCANDOVAL…    And as a wise woman once said, ‘YOU KNOW THAT IT’S OUR TIME, THESE ARE THE BEST DAYS OF OUR LIVES….’   For more about the podcast and my life, you can find me: https://www.instagram.com/jadeiovine/    Produced by Catherine Law Edited and Engineered by Brandon Dickert Hosted on Acast. JADE’S INTROVERT RECUPERATION PROGRAM w/ JADE (and Catherine!)

I am officially in my introvert recoup era. After what feels like a month of talking to people nonstop, I’ve decided I only want to talk to you guys for the foreseeable future. AND YOUR GIRL HAS THINGS TO SAY.   In this episode, I vented to Catherine about oh-so-many things. We gave advice and shared our missteps when trying to leave a conversation that has expired. We dissected my belief of what a good first date looks like and which common dating experience would be my personal version of hell. We compared notes on the statute of limitations for late birthday presents, unlocked the truth behind “good sides”, and examined my crippling fear of the dark.    ALSO: this message goes out to my VPR fans and VPR fans only…we recorded this episode BEFORE the Scandoval so just know next week I will go IN on all my thoughts and feelings regarding the news that shook me to my core!!!    For more about the podcast and my life, you can find me: https://www.instagram.com/jadeiovine/    Produced by Catherine Law Edited and Engineered by Brandon Dickert Hosted on Acast. The Honeymoon is Over… w/ BABY JADE (and Catherine!)

At long last, I’m back from my wedding weekend and honeymoon and I missed you guys palpably.    Trust me, we’ll do a whole episode on alllll the details and drama of the wedding for those who want it but, in the meantime, Catherine and I couldn't resist and decided to give you guys the spark notes version in this episode. Plus: plenty of non-wedding-related stuff that’s been on my mind…   We discussed the unexpected meltdown I had before the big day, things that really bug me about talking to people, the phonetic alphabet, and much much much more.   We’re back and better than ever and I’M SO HAPPY to vent to you guys again.   For more about the podcast and my life, you can find me: https://www.instagram.com/jadeiovine/    Produced by Catherine Law Edited and Engineered by Brandon Dickert Hosted on Acast. Time Capsule: We’re Engaged!! (In The Least Cringey Way Possible) w/ Jade Iovine & Dylan Satin

Since I’m on my mini-moon and OOO, I thought we’d revisit my and Dylan’s first episode together and what was *hopefully* the least-cringey engagement announcement we could give you. I can’t wait to be back next week and tell you guys EVERYTHING about this past week!! Xo Jade   * After months of hearing me tell countless stories about him and letting me embarrass him on this show, we thought it was time to invite my fiancé Dylan to hang out with us this week. Dylan is my better half in nearly every way and I think you’ll agree and love him as much as I do -- well hopefully not quite that much, that’d be weird, but you know what I mean…   We go over all the details of Dylan’s proposal (in the least cringey way, as aforementioned), talk a little about our history, argue about details of every story, and you’ll get a very telling sneak peek into our relationship along the way.   And, before you all yell at me, I know I have a “talking-over-Dylan” problem. I’m working on it very hard in therapy, I swear..   For more about the podcast and my life, you can find me: https://www.instagram.com/jadeiovine/    Executive Producer Nick Stumpf Produced by Catherine Law Edited and Engineered by Brandon Dickert Hosted on Acast. Wedding Disasters w/ Jade (+ Catherine!)

My wedding was this past weekend but, last week, BEFORE I got married Catherine and I recorded this episode to EXCLUSIVELY discuss wedding disasters and planning horror stories.    Most people think weddings are all aspirational and romantic. We see perfect families, the perfect dress, the best day of people’s lives, and what we see on Pinterest BUT if you’ve ever planned a wedding, you know the truth (and the tears) that go on behind the scenes of this magical day…   Recently I complained to you guys about how the seating chart nearly made me call off my wedding and my DMs exploded. People related to my pain, big time and were almost too excited to share their worst wedding planning and day-of moments. To be honest, my heart sang because it was so relieving to know that other people agreed with me: behind the scenes, weddings aren't necessarily all sunshine and rainbows.    SO because many of you were eager to share your humbling, annoying, painful, disastrous, wedding truths I thought I'd dedicate an entire episode to the dark side of weddings hoping that we could make each other feel better and commiserate–especially when we’ve yelled at a undeserving (or very deserving!!) family member, developed a stress-rash and are ready to cancel the whole thing and elope somewhere no one can ever find us.  Download this episode of Tell Me About It with Jade Iovine wherever you get your podcasts! Black Eyes and Bad Mormons w/ Heather Gay

We all know Heather Gay as our blunt, relatable best friend (with a mysterious black eye *eye roll*) on "Real Housewives of Salt Lake City" and as the founder of Beauty Lab & Laser (with the legendary parking lot). But some of her actual friends, family and community see her as nothing but a “Bad Mormon”.    If you watch Real Housewives of Salt Lake City you know that most of Heather’s storyline for her past three seasons on the show has revolved around her experience untangling herself and beliefs from that of the Mormon Church and exposing the brutal repercussions her vocalness about her departure has had on both her personal life and relationships. Heather was born into Mormonism and has spent most of her life wrestling with a gnawing feeling that she “didn’t fit” the mold of a “good” Mormon woman. In more recent years, while simultaneously accepting a starring role on Bravo’s hit show RHOSLC, Heather has officially filed to withdraw from the church, start her life anew, and…WRITE A BOOK detailing the secrets, darkness.  With writing that is vulnerable, witty, and painfully truthful Heather details her innermost thoughts and internal tug-of-war between duty to self and duty to God. Exposing secrets she once held sacred, “Bad Mormon” is an unfiltered look at the religion that broke her heart.
