EP 244: David’s Recovery Story
David is 37 years sober& King13 was curious how!
David begins talking about the last night he took a drink, he was thirty six and a regular bar drinker. He remembers taking his first drink at sixteen and thinking he liked it so he would try it again. Over the years his drinking progressed. At first David attending AA Meetings and he was not convinced about the 12 steps and the higher power. However realizing he needed to stop one day after two months of meetings he found his
obsession for alcohol lifted and yet he had no logical explanation why. He did work the 12 steps,
has never had a slip and considers himself recovered from the cravings and has accepted he is wired differently. He said "when he picks up alcohol it is like rolling the dice" and if you can no longer drink safely, you have a problem. Today no longer an introvert, he is a friend amongst friends and recommends that you do the work in front of you. We do not have to do this alone. This is not a solo sport and a recovery world of friends await.
Thank you David.

EP 240: Hatred of Sound and Movement? - King13 Interviews MMC13
Something strange started to happen to MMC13 in her pre-teen years; the whole world suddenly became a barrage on her senses; sounds were too loud, sights were overwhelming, and there seemed to be no reason for it. The condition led her to isolation and misery through much of her teenage and young adult life, and likely played a part in her early drinking as a coping mechanism. Fast-forward 20 years, and the condition(s) finally have names! Misophonia and Misokinesia, which literally translate to mean 'hatred of sound', and 'hatred of movement'. Join us as she explains what these conditions are, how they affected her, and why she believes they're much more common than we realize.

EP 238: Peggi Cooney Author of ”The Other Side of Alcohol”
Peggi Coney Author of "The Other Side of Alcohol"
Peggy did not have a drinking problem until her 50's. Having it all, a beautiful family, two homes and also a dream job teaching social work. In 2008, Peggi received a service award amongst seventeen hundred and fifty colleagues and still could not put the drink down. A drinking incident at a reunion family picnic resulted in her daughter saying "if she wanted a relationship with her family she needed to address this problem". Peggy was crushed as she valued her family more than she could bear to lose them. Author of The Other Side Of Alcohol, she takes you through her journey and how she turned her life around. I want the stigma and shame gone, everybody has a valid story and deserves to be heard. It brings us to where we are today. Peggi says "you need to constantly forgive yourself". I could not agree more. The greatest gift you can give yourself is to pour the poison down the sink!

EP 236: SoberSeedling’s Recovery Story
SoberSeedling was a good Christian, conservative, straight A student who at a young age was addicted to perfectionism.
She attended a Christian College, became a Middle School theatre teacher, still performs today as a singer and works for a brewing company.
After a failed marriage, she simultaneously falls apart and blossoms. Unhealthy relationship patterning leads to domestic violence, as she continues attempting to “fix or save” her partners, while neglecting herself. Her self worth is crushed and her 'identity' questioned, ultimately feeding a growing addiction to alcohol. Her story is one of hope and resilience.
A huge empath, she holds space for everyone and is practicing doing the same for herself. The way she expresses and writes with such honesty will certainly help other victims of domestic violence before it could be too late. And please if you think this may be you, see professional help and pour the poison down the sink.

EP 235: MMC13’s Recovery Story
MMC13 remembers thinking at the early age of twenty that she may have an issue with alcohol. Adopted to a loving couple she recalls a normal childhood until her teenage years presented challenges being bullied so she starting drinking to "fit in" like so many teenagers do. Diagnosed with Misophobia & Misokinesia (hatred of certain sounds & movements), MMC explains her high sensitivity. She works her sobriety and accumulates seven and a half years. Her passion for seven family furries and 'rescues' and we both agree that giving back in community fills our souls. Thoughts of moderation pass through and she finds herself at that pivotal moment when it's you or alcohol. Only ONE will win. A fascinating listen where I learnt so much. Thank you MM13.
On a personal note..
I lost my friend Karl yesterday and dedicate this podcast to him and his beautiful partner Debbie & his children Cody and Tahlia. See you on the other side mate💚.
