TV Shows Of The Year 2024: featuring John & Joel of The Dream Factory #603
Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!An episode celebrating the past year of television, from streamers to terrestrials - it's TV Of The Year 2024 with Joe & Joel!(Producer Buddy here - I've once again recklessly recycled a previous writeup for this one because my original is still entirely apt - dates have changed for obvious reasons but otherwise - enjoy the timewarp!)Another delightful end of year TV roundup from three people who truly know and care about their televisual diet. These are names you can trust, folks. You might know John and Joel from their own film podcast called Dream Factory (the world's greatest user-generated movie creation podcast), which Pip is a true fan of and contributor to, but if not, here is your chance to get to know them and become fast friends! This podcast goes appropriately deep into the television shows of the year in a hugely positive way, but of course you'll hear about some of the trials and tribulations of being such big devourers of content - the endless options of platforms, the accessibility of them all, and everything else... But really it's a perfect way to get up to speed on the things you might have missed, and also hear people chat about the shows that we all loved throughout the year. Who knows what 2025 has in store for us... But really - who cares? This is 2024 right here! Coralie Fargeat (The Substance / Revenge) & Matilda Lutz (Revenge / Magpie) • Friday Rewind
emocleW, emocleW, emocleW to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This is your bonus FRIDAY REWIND episode! Today, we catch up with filmmaker Coralie Fargeat (The Substance / Revenge) and actor Matilda Lutz (Revenge / Magpie), originally episode 205 from 2018-05-11.Below is the original writeup for context:–––––––––––––––––––––––––A great Friday spot for you this week, as Pip sits down with director Coralie Fargeat and actor Matilda Lutz, creator and star of the indie horror film ‘Revenge’. All kinds of aspects are covered including of course the main elements of the film itself, the process of working with a smaller budget and the knock-on effects that has (and the imagination it inspires), crossings of languages and how it can help with an international release, dealing with foreign distributors, the audition process, darker entertainment from directors such as David Cronenberg, the film set out in Morocco and working in the cold, working with that amount of blood in such a small space (I’m sure a lot of horror fans’ ears just pricked up!), trusting the audience with your world and the importance of the director and actor relationship. And a lot more. A packed episode then, you could say! ENJOY! And go see the film if you get an opportunity…PIP'S PATREON PAGE if you're of a supporting natureTHE SUBSTANCEREVENGECORALIE IGMATILDA IGPIP TWITCH • (music stuff)PIP INSTAGRAMSPEECH DEVELOPMENT WEBSTOREPIP TWITTERPIP IMDBPOD BIBLE Hosted on Acast. Films Of The Year 2024: Pip's personal roundup of 2024's finest films #602
Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This week Pip continues the Distraction Pieces tradition of appraising the cinematic output of the year just passed - it's Films Of The Year 2024!A thorough and - crucially - personal rundown of all that happened last year in the world of feature films, major and independent, big screen and small screen. The whole thing was recorded outside in the dead of Winter, so by all means don't feel like you need to mimic those surroundings. This is probably more suitable for a warm and dry environment at your leisure, but wherever you choose it's a nice way to look back in fondness on a really great year in films. It's obvious but it must be re-emphasised each year - this is not YOUR list of favourite films. It is Pip's. if Pip makes a choice, this does not remove your own choice. It does not mean you are wrong in your own choices. You know this already but you'd be surprised at how some folks might misinterpret these things. It's all love in here. Enjoy, make some notes, rewatch some goodies and maybe make some new acquaintances in the bargain. emocleW, emocleW, emocleW to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This is your bonus FRIDAY REWIND episode! Today, we catch up with Limmy, originally episode 113 (a two parter) from 2016-08-31.Below is the original writeup for context:–––––––––––––––––––––––––Congratulations on your download. You have made the correct choice. Especially being that this week the guest is comedy giant Brian "Limmy" Limond! A perfect back and forth with Glasgow's comic mastermind Limmy (and on occasion, mainly forth as Pip joins us, the listener, and lets Limmy hold court!), combing through the action packed origin story and leading us right up to around the present day, exposing the thrilling fun times as well as revealing the deep dark lows in a thoroughly down to earth fashion, including drink, fatherhood and all that entails. Such a powerful and relatable talk, and definitely one for the Limmy heads as well as those who are perhaps unfamiliar with the man behind 'Limmy's Show' and 'Daft Wee Stories' among so much more...PIP'S PATREON PAGE if you're of a supporting natureIMDBYOUTUBETWITCHPIP TWITCH • (music stuff)PIP INSTAGRAMSPEECH DEVELOPMENT WEBSTOREPIP TWITTERPIP IMDBPOD BIBLE Hosted on Acast. Michaela Coel (I May Destroy You / Chewing Gum / Black Earth Rising) • Friday Rewind
emocleW, emocleW, emocleW to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This is your bonus FRIDAY REWIND episode! Today, we catch up with Michaela Coel twice, originally episode 129 from 2016-12-14, and episode 238 from 2018-11-07. Below are the original writeups for context - enjoy this double feature look back in to the past with Michaela!–––––––––––––––––––––––––Part 1:From her early days knocking around Tower Hamlets in a pentecostal upbringing, and how a psalm triggered her interests in poetry, Michaela gets deep into what added up to her present day self, as a multi-talented and well respected TV heavy hitter - from her take on reading and books in general, to spirituality and where she's at with it all now, drama school, reality TV, Uber and its complex personal social code of conduct, how she was discovered on stage, right through to where we find her now as star of 'Aliens', 'Chewing Gum' (and writer of, of course) and 'Black Mirror'... A perfect and full on satisfying listen so go on and get on that immediately!Part 2:What exactly HASN’T she been doing since she was last on? Good lord… Michaela is unquestionably smashing it right now (and has been for a minute), starring in two Black Mirror episodes, feature film Been So Long, BBC drama Black Earth Rising and a lil’ indie grindhouse flick called Star Wars: The Last Jedi, no biggie. We can only dream of what she’ll be unveiling when we hopefully see her next time on here! A bunch of awesome ground is covered of course, in not that long, including her humble but confident, responsive social media outlook, carving her own paths growing up, the intentions behind any given script, not wasting time on things that don’t mean much to you, the hit series Black Earth Rising and the much loved director, heroes and villains, learning about Africa and all the education that came with Black Earth Rising, TV license and the value of it, John Goodman, handling heavier scenes and TONS tons more! Jesse Eisenberg: Movies are alive, follow your instincts (A Real Pain, The Social Network, Zombieland) #600
Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This week Pip is joined by the multi-talented actor, writer and filmmaker JESSE EISEINBERG!Jesse's latest film 'A Real Pain' drops in the UK on January 8th, so this is a timely catch up and check in on what's been happening and what's on the horizon, as well as all the awesome mechanics involved (definitely notepad-worthy if you're of a similar discipline and mindset!).He and Pip cover so much ground in this one, including being a self proclaimed hermit but attempted traveller, the benefits of regular writing, finding ideas everywhere especially when the algorithm unwittingly delivers them, working with day to day problems against larger traumatic backdrops, fatherhood and working with children, roles of the past, the importance and significance of all the crew members involved with each film, and working with Kieran Culkin on his latest. Barry Keoghan (Saltburn / Bird / Banshees Of Inisherin) • Friday Rewind
emocleW, emocleW, emocleW to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This is your bonus FRIDAY REWIND episode! Today, we catch up with Barry Keoghan, originally episode 226 from 2018-08-29.Below is the original writeup for context - but as you will know, the years since this was recorded have seen Barry find new audiences while revealing all sorts of new levels to his skills and talents. So enjoy this flashback to the 2018 era Barry! Note - this writeup was for the original episode where Barry shared it with Bart Layton - just a quick FYI.–––––––––––––––––––––––––An amazing chance to catch up with the pair as Pip rocks it tag-team style, starting the podcast with director Bart Layton and concluding halfway through with actor Barry Keoghan. Needless to say, with two sides of the story covered you get a comprehensive and detailed look at a unique pocket of the movie industry, a fascinating side of the indie film world and certainly longer than a regular press junket. You’ll get to hear about the realities of making and marketing a movie in a world of cinema and Netflix (or dare I say, cinema versus Netflix), the differences in those two worlds as well as the merits of both, the ludicrous nature of the premise of ‘American Animals’ and how it works as a film, how Barry is a grade A actor without formal training and how acting was not a conventional pursuit being where he is from. Naturally there is more besides but that’s down to YOU, dear listener, to unravel and enjoy. Which you shall. The recording is a touch on the reverberant side, which you might pick up on, but in headphones your ears will rapidly attune and all will be well. Now go see their filmographies already!PIP'S PATREON PAGE if you're of a supporting natureIMDBSALTBURN TRAILERBIRD TRAILERBANSHEES OF INISHERIN TRAILERPIP TWITCH • (music stuff)PIP INSTAGRAMSPEECH DEVELOPMENT WEBSTOREPIP TWITTERPIP IMDBPOD BIBLE Hosted on Acast. Hangovercast 2024 w/ Chris & Stu • Part 7/7
Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!Pip, Chris and Stu assemble in the regular formation for that very special time of year we all know and love, it's DRUNKAST TIME! PART 7!We find the gang in their element, high off of adventure and fire and smoke (all will be revealed), and ready for the regularly scheduled mayhem and delirium! It's the time when these three good friends in life and podcasting get together in a safe environment with a wealth of booze (responsibly consumed - this isn't a race to the bottom), and as is always pointed out in these writeups, you can expect a loosening of filters and lowering of those occasional conversation drawbridges. By that, I mean that these three good people will here and there say things that you might not usually encounter in the usual Distraction Pieces space, so tread carefully. Essentially, if you're dipping your toe in with these episodes, your toe might well get chomped, so a suggestion would be to approach with one of the usual guest-led episodes!Things get messier as the episodes progress, but if you're an OG DPP / Hardcore Listing head, you'll enjoy the ride for sure.
