Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!Absolute hip hop perfection this episode as Pip has a proper full length chat with rapper/producer/composer - or for brevity’s sake, half of Run The Jewels - El-P!Whether you’re familiar with El-P from his way back underground (dare I say ‘indie rap’) days of Company Flow alongside Bigg Jus and Mr Len, and of course the label Def Jux (including his sonic architecture of the Cannibal Ox album), or his solo work wearing many hats per album – OR – his present work alongside Killer Mike as 50% of Run The Jewels, you will get a ton out of this. Obviously RTJ talk is discussed, but as a fan, Pip goes in deep for the true heads and gets the background info from El’s days (bad memory not withstanding) hustling the Tower Records mailout system, freestyling on the Stretch & Bobbito show, the Rawkus days, collabos, producing for self and as a team, taking on difficult projects to get out of conventions, “delving into water”, and scoring films (like the forthcoming 'Capone'). Oh and also releasing an eerily prescient 4th RTJ album during a pandemic. If you’re familiar with El-P’s work over the years or have listened to Fantastic Damage more than a few times, you’ll understand that a pandemic is probably the perfect time for an El-related project.
