Moments That Changed My Life (w/Chris & Stu) (part 1) • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #333

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!A very extra special edition of Distraction Pieces as Pip is joined by the eerily sober Stu Whiffen and Chris Glassen of the Hardcore Listing podcast to celebrate A MILLION DOWNLOADS!!!What a day… It’s no small thing getting up to a cool milly… Their hard work has truly paid off and it’s such a treat to hear them talking to Pip about the whole ride - but not in a self congratulatory way… They’re doing it in the medium - in true Hardcore Listing style - of top 5s, the top 5 this time being the moments that changed their lives. Which is perfect because you’ll get a huge insight into their own lives and the moves and shakes that changed their courses which ultimately led them to where they are now. It’s a two parter as well, as that’s a lot to fit into a single episode, so stay tune for both of em! Paapa Essiedu • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #332

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!Maybe you know Paapa Essiedu through his stellar Hamlet performance. Maybe you know him from starring in the absolutely stunning ‘I May Destroy You’, alongside the incredible Michaela Coel. Whatever degree you know Paapa, here’s a perfect chance to get all the better acquainted with him, as Pip has a chat with him about the whole lot and even more than that. From the themes of I May Destroy you, which leads on to a greater conversation about consent in general and all the subjects raised by the series, to life as a young Black Londoner, to his taking on Hamlet, hints at a possible parallel world career, ‘Gangs Of London’ and London as a backdrop, and the importance of preparation as an actor. Wonderful stuff which will be of interest to - well, everyone - but certainly actors young and old, who would be greatly inspired by such a skilful actor. Ashley 'Dotty' Charles • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #331

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!Ashley ‘Dotty’ Charles (aka Amplify Dot) joins Pip this week for a wonderful and in depth chat about the broad ranging topic of outrage. We all know what outrage is because invariably we’ve experienced it at some point in the very recent past or just in general in our internet / non-internet lives… It’s therefore fascinating to hear in more detail exactly what it is, how it is used, the mechanics of it and how we can use it more creatively and effectively. From the recent pandemic issues including Dominic Cummings and Boris, to racial frustrations and wider issues involving Katie Hopkins (now on her own Twitter lockdown), Piers Morgan and Trump. It’s not all about them though - this is an audio handbook on how we don’t just have to speak out all.the.time.at.the.same.volume… In fact, Ashley tells us why this actually backfires and lessens the overall effect in the long run. Anyway - too much to synopsise here, dig in a listen and enjoy, and remember - “outrage should be a disruption”.EPISODE LINKS:ASHLEY 'DOTTY' CHARLES on TWITTERASHLEY in THE GUARDIANOUTRAGED bookOUTRAGED from ROUGH TRADELINKS FOR SCROOBIUS PIP & SPEECH DEVELOPMENT:SCROOBIUS PIP on TWITTERSCROOBIUS PIP on INSTAGRAMSCROOBIUS PIP on PATREONNORTH STAR RISINGPOD BIBLESPEECH DEVELOPMENT RECORDS DISTRACTION PIECES NETWORK on FACEBOOKDISTRACTION PIECES NETWORK on INSTAGRAMDISTRACTION PIECES PODCAST ARCHIVE Hosted on Acast. Defund The Police: Discussed • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #330

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!A very timely and hugely informative Friday bonus for you this week, as Pip is joined by two guests, one after the other. The first is Alex S. Vitale (professor of sociology at Brooklyn College, US), followed by Dr Adam Elliott-Cooper (University Of Greenwich, humanities and social science department). With everything we’ve seen over the last month in most recent history, one sentiment and statement that’s been gaining traction is “Defund The Police”. On face value and without any further research or intrigue, this could come across in an entirely different way than it is supposed to. Pip did a good amount of digging, and after being passed along to appropriate potential guests, meetings were set up and he arrived at two people who are well versed and well equiped to speak on the issue. In the interest of balance, he speaks to Alex from the US, where the issue is very pertinent and pressing and also has very different implications for society there, and also Adam from the UK, who goes into what this means for the UK and the nuances involved. It’s a complex matter for sure, but along with the accompanying links from Pip to break down what’s been talked about, and a comprehensive conclusion, you’ll hopefully be way more up on the subject than you might have been previously, and have a good understanding on what it means to say ‘defund the police’. Be informed, share, and enjoy.EPISODE LINKS:ADAM ELLIOTT on TWITTERADAM ONLINEALEX VITALE on TWITTERALEX ONLINEALEX's ARTICLE in THE GUARDIANLINKS FOR SCROOBIUS PIP & SPEECH DEVELOPMENT:SCROOBIUS PIP on TWITTERSCROOBIUS PIP on INSTAGRAMSCROOBIUS PIP on PATREONNORTH STAR RISINGPOD BIBLESPEECH DEVELOPMENT RECORDS DISTRACTION PIECES NETWORK on FACEBOOKDISTRACTION PIECES NETWORK on INSTAGRAMDISTRACTION PIECES PODCAST ARCHIVE Hosted on Acast. Simon Bird • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #329

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This week Pip is joined by actor and now director SIMON BIRD, whom you may already be familiar with from such roles as Will from The Inbetweeners and Adam from Friday Night Dinner!Simon and Pip chat over the good old fashioned zoom app (you get that nice warmth and crackle over zoom), to catch up on all things acting and directing, as well as fatherhood and family life and how everything feeds into each other. A nice coverage of menu items from the difference in perspectives of last year and this year so far, directing Days Of The Bagnold Summer and how it was an unoffical Pip biopic without the Pip (let’s call it a ‘bioPip’), appreciation for Monica Dolan, the Footlights crew at Cambridge, working with his wife, and of course all things Inbetweeners and Friday Night Dinner.EPISODE LINKS:SIMON on IMDBDAYS OF THE BAGNOLD SUMMERTHE INBETWEENERSLINKS FOR SCROOBIUS PIP & SPEECH DEVELOPMENT:SCROOBIUS PIP on TWITTERSCROOBIUS PIP on INSTAGRAMSCROOBIUS PIP on PATREONNORTH STAR RISINGPOD BIBLESPEECH DEVELOPMENT RECORDS DISTRACTION PIECES NETWORK on FACEBOOKDISTRACTION PIECES NETWORK on INSTAGRAMDISTRACTION PIECES PODCAST ARCHIVE Hosted on Acast. Isolation DrunkCast v.3 w/Jayde, Rich, Chris & Stu (pt 3 of 3) • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #328

Welcome, welcome, welcome to episode 328 of the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!Distraction Pieces listeners and friends, please feel at home and very welcome in the warm, cosy confines of the third Isolation DrunkCast of 2020! This time round you are treated to a guest appearance from Jayde Adams and Rich Wilson, as well as Hardcore Listing crew Chris & Stu!The beauty of the DrunkCast episodes is that they can truly be their own beasts. They can contain any amount of tangents and subjects, and they can take a detour whenever they like while being serious, silly or on the floor in stitches. And folks, that is kind of what you’re gonna get with this one. With seemingly unavoidable despair at every turn this year, the week this episode is released on being no exception, I think the crew needed some steam letting off and while this can provide a medium for that and for all of us, don’t think the serious subjects won’t get addressed. So please - prepare your listening environment accordingly and get yourselves appropriately ready for the third of the Isolation Drunkcasts!EPISODE LINKS:JAYDE ADAMS on TWITTER!RICH WILSON on TWITTER!AMUSICAL PODCAST! • Acast • SpotifyINSANE IN THE MEN BRAIN PODCAST! • Acast • SpotifyHARDCORE LISTING! • Acast • SpotifyLINKS FOR SCROOBIUS PIP & SPEECH DEVELOPMENT:SCROOBIUS PIP on TWITTERSCROOBIUS PIP on INSTAGRAMSCROOBIUS PIP on PATREONNORTH STAR RISINGPOD BIBLESPEECH DEVELOPMENT RECORDS DISTRACTION PIECES NETWORK on FACEBOOKDISTRACTION PIECES NETWORK on INSTAGRAMDISTRACTION PIECES PODCAST ARCHIVE Hosted on Acast. Akala (Revisited) • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip

Welcome, welcome, welcome to a very special re-release episode of the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip.This episode is a re-release of episode 65 of DPP, where Pip spoke to Akala. This is such a perfect companion to the re-release of the Killer Mike episode, as it reflects upon certain similar issues but from a UK voice. Akala is someone who’s been fighting the good fight for years, whether it be dropping heavyweight albums or taking the public to school live on air with ease and confidence (dropping pure knowledge on topics that have been sorely missed from ‘traditional’ education). This podcast was recorded in 2015, and so it’s very interesting to look back on it with some hindsight and benefit of knowing what happened in the years after it dropped. I’m sure a lot of us feel like we probably wanna go back to then… Anyway - it’s a wonderful episode so again, take some time with it, and let it into your day. You will not regret a minute.EPISODE LINKS:AKALA on TWITTERAKALA on YOUTUBEAKALA on THE INTERNETLINKS FOR SCROOBIUS PIP & SPEECH DEVELOPMENT:SCROOBIUS PIP on TWITTERSCROOBIUS PIP on INSTAGRAMSCROOBIUS PIP on PATREONNORTH STAR RISINGPOD BIBLESPEECH DEVELOPMENT RECORDS DISTRACTION PIECES NETWORK on FACEBOOKDISTRACTION PIECES NETWORK on INSTAGRAMDISTRACTION PIECES PODCAST ARCHIVE Hosted on Acast. Killer Mike (Revisited) • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip

Welcome, welcome, welcome to a very special re-release episode of the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip.This episode is a re-release of episode 12 of DPP, where Pip spoke to Killer Mike. Since the episode aired, it remains one of the most referenced episodes from Pip, and with good reason. Mike drops so much science that is not a casual listen. This is one to take time with, to reflect on and to pay attention to. What we’re seeing in the USA right now is an ongoing trauma which seems to know no bounds, so hearing this chat from 2014 will ring some unfortunately familiar bells… However - as I say - Mike drops pure gems and it is a real treasure to have such knowledge made available. This is some public service shit. So download, take your time, and spend some moments with Pip and Killer Mike.EPISODE LINKS:KILLE MIKE on TWITTERKILLER MIKE'S SPEECHRUN THE JEWELSKILLER MIKE on THE INTERNETLINKS FOR SCROOBIUS PIP & SPEECH DEVELOPMENT:SCROOBIUS PIP on TWITTERSCROOBIUS PIP on INSTAGRAMSCROOBIUS PIP on PATREONNORTH STAR RISINGPOD BIBLESPEECH DEVELOPMENT RECORDS DISTRACTION PIECES NETWORK on FACEBOOKDISTRACTION PIECES NETWORK on INSTAGRAMDISTRACTION PIECES PODCAST ARCHIVE Hosted on Acast.
