Whose knowledge is represented in our health research, policies, and practice? Who is heard, listened to and believed in our health system, and why? There are differences in not only whose perspectives are represented in society, but also what knowledge is valuable. On this episode of the Race & Health Podcast in collaboration with The Lancet Voice, we explore the concept of epistemic injustice: the idea that knowledge and systems of knowledge production favour the perspectives of those at the top of the social hierarchy. In 2022, WHO’s African Region saw 233 million cases of malaria, with 580,000 deaths. 80% of those deaths are children under 5. The phase 3 trial of the new R21/Matrix-M malaria vaccine was published in The Lancet this month, and the results suggest a turning point in the fight against malaria.
