#32 Preston Martin & Aleksa Burmazovic | The Incredible World Of Special Economic Zones

Listen To This Interview As A Podcast Instead🎙️: https://atlasgeographica.com/interview-special-economic-zones/Both Preston & Aleksa work for the Special Economic Zone consultancy firm, The Adrianople Group, of which Preston is a co-founder. We covered so much in this chat – most notably, what are special economic zones? I wrote an article explaining, in brief, an introduction to these phenomena of globalisation and multinational trade, but it is in this conversation I had with Preston & Aleksa that the true depth of Special Economic Zones starts to be realised.Over 60% of the world's trade runs through a Special Economic Zone and these are spaces whose regulations fall outside of the state's regulations within the country they are housed. So you can immediately see a story of tax evasion and exploitation. But this is to quick and un-nuanced a look at things, it turns out Special Economic Zones (like many things) are subject to both the good and the bad, and things of such complexity are worth thinking about. My favourite part of the chart was all of it! But that doesn’t help you point out highlights. So in short I would say the following three subjects make up the best parts of the conversation. The Philosophy Of Special Economic Zones China & It’s History With Special Economic Zones Defining Special Economic Zones Through Real-Life Examples Jump In On My Newsletter 📋 🔑 - https://atlasgeographica.com/subscribe-----00:00 – Introduction08:11 – Defining & Understanding Special Economic Zones (SEZ)14:15 – Examples Of Special Economic Zones.27:30 – If It Can Work In An SEZ, Why Can’t It Work Nation Wide?38:00 – Explaining What Alex & Preston Do With SEZ’s.43:45 – A Terrific Example For How An SEZ Might Come Into Business.46:50 – The Fascinating History Of SEZ’s In China.55:26 – Explaining China’s Middle Income Trap.57:53 – A Fascinating Explanation Of Chinese Communism – The Mandate Of Heaven.1:00:35 – China’s Belt & Road Initiative Wrapped Into SEZ’s.1:13:53 – An Explanation Of Debt Trap Diplomacy.1:16:50 – Specific SEZ Chat On China’s BRI.1:24:41 – The Good & The Bad Matrix For Special Economic Zones.1:29:49 – Onto The Philosophy Of SEZ’s1:47:50 – What Country Are You Most Bullish On Looking Into The Future?-----LEAVE YOUR ENERGY IN THE ALGORITHM - 5 STARS & SUBSCRIBE!Are you into Nassim Taleb? Tim comments on everything from Australia to China to the UK to MBS to Saudi Arabia and even to space. #27 Angus Fletcher | The Absolute Wonder Of Stories & What They Teach Us

The Interview With Angus Fletcher 🎙️: https://atlasgeographica.com/angus-fletcher-wonderworks/ Angus Fletcher joined me on 'A Curious Worldview' recently. He is, among many other things, the author of the wonderfully insightful book - Wonderworks: 25 Powerful Inventions In The History Of Literature.Angus has been involved in a 'rouge literary' group known as project narrative for some time and as consequence now and then throughout his career has been involved in the writing and editing of both popular and unpopular Hollywood scripts. Angus is a trained neuroscientist and it is from this perspective he approaches his understanding of literature. What Angus has done is uncover inventions of literature that until now have only been understood on an instinctual level. Angus has measured what certain styles and techniques of literature do to the brain. How empathy is trained through literature. Why apologies are effective. Things along these lines. It's brilliant.Jump In On My Newsletter 📋 🔑 - https://atlasgeographica.com/subscribe-----Link To Wonderworks - https://www.amazon.com/Wonderworks-Powerful-Inventions-History-Literature/dp/1982135972-----LEAVE YOUR ENERGY IN THE ALGORITHM - 5 STARS & SUBSCRIBE!Are you into Nassim Taleb? #26 Chris Williamson | Escaping The Pigeon Hole & Hosting Jordan Peterson On The Modern Wisdom Podcast

The Interview With Chris Williamson🎙️: https://atlasgeographica.com/chris-williamson-interview/ Chris Williamson is the host of the Modern Wisdom podcast, one of Europe's and quite frankly - the worlds - fastest growing and most exciting podcasts for the inquisitive mind.Chris has created something, in Modern Wisdom, that I quietly emulate and admire from afar. The prospect of getting the opportunity to speak with whoever you want around the world who interests you most is the absolute final motivation for why I started this podcast. Chris recently had on JBP Jordan Peterson, which marked for him this high watermark and realisation of this absolute motivation. We spoke about much. Stereotypes, being pigeonholed, stifling ones potential, imposter syndrome and not enough about cricket. Subscribe to the podcast fellas! I hope you enjoy Chris Williamson. #24 James Robinson | 'Why Nations Fail' - Institutions Are Everything

Article On The Interview With James Robinson🎙️: https://atlasgeographica.com/james-robinson-interview/James Robinson is a British economist and political scientist. He studies what makes countries different by focusing on the underlying economic and political institutions that lead some to prosperity and others to conflict. He most famously co-authored the international best selling book, Why Nations Fail.He has conducted research in many countries around the world including Botswana, Chile, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Haiti, the Philippines, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Colombia and I am sure many more as well. The coolest and most insightful takeaway from 'Why Nations Fail' is the long explanation that distinguishes between inclusive and extractive institutions. This dynamic explains ultimately 'Why Nations Fail' and Why Nations Succeed. The book is strongly endorsed by Jared Diamond - which was the initial reason why I picked it up, but once you get into it it is the historical anecdotes that keep you around.I could have spoken to James for hours, for me the most fascinating topic is how and why nations differ - so you can imagine, this chat meant specifically a lot to me.Jump In On My Newsletter 📋 🔑 - https://atlasgeographica.com/subscribe-----Link's To Books & Articles Mentioned Why Nations Fail Africa's Latent Assets-----LEAVE YOUR ENERGY IN THE ALGORITHM - 5 STARS & SUBSCRIBE!Are you into Nassim Taleb?
