Ep 129 The Injector Mindset & How to Supercharge Your Aesthetics Business | Miranda Pearce
Episode 129 hosts Miranda Pearce (Aesthetic marketing, mindset and motivation expert from Manchester, UK) Miranda co-founded SkinViva, a leading cosmetic clinic with her husband Dr Tim Pearce and is self-taught in aesthetic marketing. We open by discussing one of the most difficult conundrums that every injector encounters on their journey - how to price themselves within an incredibly saturated market? We'll drill down into what the value of a skilled injector is and how to feel confident charging appropriately for that. We then explore how to improve communication and the value from our patients including reducing no shows, handling last-minute cancellations, increasing word of mouth referrals and improving patient loyalty. Miranda shares her expertise on motivation and mindset when it comes to one of the most common barriers that injectors come up against- how to combat 'injecting anxiety', dealing with limiting beliefs and recovering their confidence after a complication. Ep 127 What Happened When the Government Regulated Cosmetic Injectables in Holland? | Dr Tom van Eijk
Episode 127 hosts Dr Tom van Eijk (Cosmetic Doctor from Amsterdam, Holland) Tom left surgical training in 2003 to focus on injectables and by 2005, had begun teaching students. He is especially well known for his 'ferning' and lip 'tenting' techniques which he has presented all around the world. In many of our previous episodes we've speculated what a formal pathway in training in cosmetic injectables might look like - and so we found the only country who has done just that. In 2019 in Holland, cosmetic injectables became recognised as a medical speciality and a training programme was created under governmental control. Tom gives his unfiltered opinion on this and tells us what led to these changes. We explore whether it was necessary and assess what Australian injectors could learn from the Dutch experience. Ep 122 Over-Treatment, Filler Migration & the Alienisation of Faces | Dr Steven Harris
Episode 122 hosts Dr Steven Harris (Cosmetic Physician from London, UK) Steven has an international reputation for his approach to injecting. He strongly believes in treating the face holistically by respecting the anatomy and it's proportions. This is something that he has championed for many years and continues to advocate through his social media channels and to his patients. This episode's main theme discusses fillers and the growing phenomenon of the over-treatment of patients. We discuss how and why this is happening, who's fault it is and what the implications are. We debate how techniques like 'tenting' that he feels may lead to the issue of filler 'migration', the truth about filler longevity and Dr Harris' approach to dealing with poor filler results - including his 'Dissolving clinic' and how he uses hyalase. To balance the argument, we also explore what the role of the injector really is and dig deep into what their duties are - are they artists, free to express their patients choices or should they only treat people how they see fit and according to their own aesthetic principles? We also cover -the state of the UK injectable-market - how championing his views on tenting and lip fillers divided the injector community - what Dr Harris thinks of Russian lips ALL IA LINKS & CONTACT INFORMATION

Ep 121 Michael Jackson's Irish Cosmetic Doctor | Dr Patrick Treacy
Episode 121 hosts Dr Patrick Treacy (Cosmetic Physician from Dublin, Ireland) We explore Patrick's unusual start to his medical career and his experiences in the early years as a doctor. After suffering a potentially life-ending needle stick injury in hospital, he travelled the world, worked in several remote locations before moving back to Ireland where the facial aesthetic industry hadn't yet started. Patrick quickly pioneered some the very first injectable treatments including using both biostimulator and polyacrylamide fillers for facial lipodystrophy in HIV-patients. He was also the first doctor known to try something that we now take for granted as injectors - the use of hyaluronidase to dissolve HA fillers. We get a fascinating perspective on how things have changed in facial aesthetics over 30 years before discussing Patrick's most famous patient - The King of Pop, Michael Jackson. Ep 120 The Story of Botulinum Toxin | Dr Jean Carruthers
Episode 120 hosts Dr Jean Carruthers (Opthalmologist from Vancouver, Canada) In the late 1980's working as an opthalmologist, Dr Carruthers and her husband Dr Alistair Carruthers (a dermatologist) pioneered how botulinum toxin can be used specifically for cosmetic purposes - now the most common cosmetic procedure in the world. Jean is globally-recognised for her expertise in research and has authored more than 300 peer reviewed scientific publications, 70 book chapters and 9 textbooks. She's given thousands of presentations on cosmetic treatments and continues to lecture on the world stage as a keynote speaker. We first discuss how she learnt to use botulinum toxin and the day she deliberately treated the first patient in the world for frown line treatment - her receptionist Cathy Swann. We learn how her peers initially dismissed the idea of injectable cosmetic treatments and yet over time, how Jean and Alistair designed the first trials and worked with Allergan to brand the treatment as 'Botox'. We explore how the current protocols (known as prescribing information) were designed and learn how Dr Carruthers still does things to this day. We also look into the future of toxins to discuss longer and shorter acting products, the issue of toxin resistance, which brands she favours and much, much more!
