45. New Neighbors

Julius Caesar has some spare time before the campaign season is over so he decides to try to mop up some pesky smaller tribes still holding out against the might of Rome. These concerns are soon forgotten when a large Germanic host crosses the Rhine and tries to make their new home in Gaul. Caesar tries to deal with them with a combination of diplomacy and threatening action but it ends in a debacle that will be hotly debated in the Roman Senate. Julius Caesar’s greatest Roman foe, Cato, will even suggest that Caesar should be handed over to the Germanic tribes for punishment.    Correction: I mention in this episode that there are accounts of World War 2 soldiers being bogged down in horrible mud not far from where Caesar was fighting the Menapii and Morini. This was a slip of the tongue and I meant World War 1 soldiers.   Website www.themarchofhistory.com    Venmo If you enjoyed the episode and want to leave a tip, click the link below! https://venmo.com/code?user_id=3764325529420842984&created=1680471101.0362968&printed=1    Patreon If you want to contribute to The March of History with a monthly donation, click the link below! https://www.patreon.com/themarchofhistory    PayPal If you want to contribute to The March of History with a one time or monthly donation, click the link below! https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=QZREW4PVL2M3A    Youtube - Trevor Travels https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-kjCywT0iuq1XgVY_u88gg   Social Medias (All can be found at the following link): linktr.ee/themarchofhistory  Instagram - @themarchofhistory Twitter - @march_history Facebook - Search "The March of History"   Music: LucasNapoleone/Shutterstock.com   ----more----   Show Summary: The March of History is a biographical history podcast on Julius Caesar and the fall of the Roman Republic.
