Luke Way & Andrew Sellars: Medical Applications of Respiratory Training

In this episode of the Braun Performance & Rehab Podcast, Dan is joined by Luke Way & Andrew Sellars to discuss the respiratory system and medical applications. The trio define "isocapnic" and discuss respiratory training, pathophysiology and more. Dr Andrew Sellars MD, is the Chief Science Officer for Isocapnic, is an Anesthesiologist, and has his master's in athletic coaching. He is one of the godfathers of objective biomarker guided training. Andrew is one of the most respected authorities all around the world in athletic respiratory performance. His contributions to the winning performances of countless athletes cannot go understated.  He brings an expertise that informs the science-based background of the Isocapnic Breathe Way Better Training system.  Luke Way is the founder and CEO of The Breathe Way Isocapnic Respiratory Training System. He has been an endurance coach for 20 years who specializes in elite level triathlon, but also work with elite level mountain bikers, and world class CrossFitters. The methodology he uses is based around understanding one's strengths and weaknesses. He creates programs that are positive, effective, and with integrity that train the weaknesses with science-backed methods into strengths.  We do this by finding objective truths about the athlete through physiologic assessment. A few years ago, after seeing there is a trend that most athletes are limiting their performance because of the way they breathe, Luke tried to find a way to effectively isolate and train the respiratory system.  He could not find any device that would work for our needs.  And so after many late-night conversations with Dr. Sellars (his mentor) and Alex (a close friend and thriving mind), we invented the Isocapnic Breathe Way Better Training System. This is a three pillared system that consists of the hardware, the software, and the curation of knowledge.  For more on Isocapnic, be sure to check out isocapnic.com & @isocapnic For more on Luke be sure to check out @coachluker For more on Andrew be sure to check out @andrew.sellars *SEASON 5 of the Braun Performance & Rehab Podcast is brought to you by Isophit.
