Arsecast Extra Episode 385 - 30.11.2020

In this episode we discuss the 2-1 defeat to Wolves at the Emirates on Sunday night. We start by talking about the collision between David Luiz and Raul Jimenez which left the Wolves man with a fractured skull. Should the Brazilian have continued, and when is football going to start taking head injuries more seriously? Then it's the football, and although we intended to analyse the game in some detail, it quickly became a very broad discussion about what's going at the club right now. The short-term issues versus the long-term needs, the poor decision making from top to bottom, the pressure on Mikel Arteta, whether our footballing identity needs to come from on high or via the manager, personnel and recruitment, Edu's role, the need for more top-level scrutiny, and how bad it would need to get for things to change in football's most obvious way. There are also listener questions about Aubameyang, giving more young players a chance, and loads more. Here's the pass-map Tweet: https://twitter.com/pwawrzynow/status/1333143574200930304 Hosted on Acast. Episode 606 - Joe with the Flo

On this week's show I chat to Andrew Allen about our 3-0 win over Molde in the Europa League, the positive contribution of Nicolas Pepe after his red card against Leeds, a first goal for Folarin Balogun, plus Reiss Nelson, Joe Willock and Emile Smith Rowe making a good night for the Academy lads. Then it's Tayo Popoola to reminisce about Diego Maradona after his passing this week. Possibly the greatest ever to play the game, he was an amazing footballer and a man whose lifestyle left plenty to be desired, but what he did on the pitch was informed so much by who he was off it.Follow Andrew @aallensport - Follow Tayo @DJTayoBuy the Goodly Morning Christmas card here – all proceeds go to the Arsenal Foundation. Arsecast Extra Episode 384 - 23.11.2020

In this episode we go back over the 0-0 draw with Leeds at Elland Road on Sunday. Mikel Arteta did make changes to his team, but they didn't really work in the first half. The second was complicated by the dismissal of Nicolas Pepe, and in the end a point in the context of the game was reasonable. We discuss the sending off, how the record signing blew a big chance, and Mikel Arteta's reaction to it. There's also chat about the importance of Bukayo Saka, as well as the club's dismal use of resources, before questions about the manager and his non-negotiables, the need for some stability, set-pieces, and lots more. On this week's show I celebrate the end of the longest Interlull ever, and talk to journalist Daniel Storey about the the demands being placed on players this season. This episode of the Arsecast Extra is brought to you by Interlull – the safe, new, hygienic product that cleanses your football bits. Episode 604 - The well timed Interlull

On this week's show I'm joined by Clive Palmer to take stock of where we are after a patchy start to the season, and a disappointing defeat to Aston Villa. Will this Interlull be a good one for Mikel Arteta to take stock, and think about how he adds much needed attacking potency to his team? We chat about some changes he might make to his team to improve the attack and midfield, as well as discussing a couple of players – Nicolas Pepe and William Saliba – in whom we've made significant financial investment but perhaps not enough of a football one. There's also some news about a little initiative to help bring Arsenal fan businesses together with Arsenal fan customers.Follow Clive @clivepafc Hosted on Acast. Arsecast Extra Episode 382 - 09.11.2020

On this week's show we look back on the dismal 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa at the Emirates on Sunday. There's a lot to unpack as we discuss a very poor collective performance along with some very poor individual ones. How much is Mikel Arteta's system at fault, when it comes to analysing players who are under-performing? Our creative problems come into sharp focus again as missed chances prove costly, and we talk about how this game needs to spark some kind of rethink from the manager. We make suggestions about how we could attempt to fix it, wonder if the absence of fans has played a part in sticking with this approach for so long, and lots more besides.  Hosted on Acast. Episode 603 - Hey Joe!

On this week's show I chat with Andrew Allen about our 4-1 win over Molde in the Europa League. It's a good scoreline, but there's still a lot to talk about. Nicolas Pepe finished with a goal and an assist, but it wasn't completely convincing. Joe Willock was superb again, but how does he get minutes in the Premier League. We also chat about Willian, Bukayo Saka, Mikel Arteta and his team selection decisions, Bernd Leno, the Aston Villa game, pay-per-view and more.Follow Andrew @aallensport Hosted on Acast. Arsecast Extra Episode 381 - 02.11.2020

It's a very goodly morning as we discuss yesterday's 1-0 win over Man Utd at Old Trafford. We've waited a long time for victory there in the league, so it feels sweet. We chat about the team selection and the way the starting XI executed the game-plan so well. Within the impressive collective performance, there were some eye-catching individuals too, and we shine the light on some of those, including Gabriel, Rob Holding, Hector Bellerin, Thomas Partey, and Mohamed Elneny – a player who probably wouldn't have been first choice for many but who made such a big contribution on the day. We answer listener questions about fine margins, foul throws, what Willian brings to the team (or doesn't), why we need to think about zones more than formations, the influence of Tim Lewis and LOADS more.
