Arsecast Extra Episode 494 - 16.10.2022

In this episode I'm joined by Andrew Allen who fills in for James who's away on holiday, and we have an extraordinary 1-0 win at Elland Road to discuss. Starting with the referee/comms delay and the suspension of the game just 60 seconds in, then to an even first half, a sensational Bukayo Saka goal to put us in front, followed by a second half full of incident and which was a exercise in endurance for Arsenal fans. Patrick Bamford had a goal disallowed and then missed a penalty as Leeds dominated the half, we couldn't get a hold on the game at all, but dug deep to hang on and take all three points, plus there was more late drama as a red card and a penalty awarded to Leeds were both overturned. Then we answer listener questions about Gabriel, who was at the centre of that late incident, rotation for the Europa League, whether grinding out a win is good, Tomiyasu, and lots more.Get extra bonus content and help support Arseblog by becoming an Arseblog Member on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/arseblog Hosted on Acast. Episode 697 - Expected Goals

In this episode I chat to Rory Smith about his new book 'Expected Goals', which traces the growth of data in football and how it has influenced the game as we know it today. We talk about surprising early adopters, how players were able to skew early iterations of data, the way the use of stats is often at odds with the chaos of the game, poor communication, how things may develop in the future, and lots more – including how StatDNA put Arsenal ahead of the curve back in the day, but never really provided the kind of competitive advantage it might have. The book is fascinating for stats advocates, and stats skeptics alike – and you can order it now from your local independent bookstore.Follow Rory @rorysmithHere's the link to the article mentioned: https://www.arsenal.com/news/danny-karbassiyoon-first-team-itGet extra bonus content and help support Arseblog by becoming an Arseblog Member on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/arseblog Hosted on Acast. Arsenal Women Arsecast Episode 51: September mailbag

On this month’s mailbag edition, Tim is joined by Art de Roche from the Athletic to look at Arsenal’s opening two games and look ahead to Saturday’s North London derby. Art and Tim take listener questions on the midfield structure for opponents who press hard, why WSL games are proving to be poor preparation for UWCL games, whether it is already time to expand the UWCL format and whether the WSL could be more creative in encouraging more shocks and more competitive games. Tim and Art also address the subject of squad rotation and why Spurs might be better preparation for Ajax than Brighton were. There is also a discussion about the competition between Laura Wienroither and Noelle Maritz at right-back.You can follow Tim on Twitter @Stillberto - Follow Art @artderocheGet extra bonus content and help support Arseblog by becoming an Arseblog Member on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/arseblog Hosted on Acast.
