Episode 701 - Reset
In this episode I'm joined by Philippe Auclair to discuss the 2-0 defeat to PSV in the Europa League on Thursday night. We chat about the poor performance from an Arsenal perspective, a scoreline that could have been worse, and try to find some explanation for why the Gunners were so poor on the night. There's also discussion of the January transfer window, the impact of the upcoming World Cup, and some thoughts on the tournament in general as FIFA's stranglehold on the game continues. Philippe also touches on a special edition produced by Josimar Football, and a table football game against a very well-known opponent.Follow Philippe @philippeauclairRead the Josimar Football editorial here: http://josimarfootball.com/editorial-josimar-international-edition/See the Socceroos statement here: https://twitter.com/thepfa/status/1585360307102552064Get extra bonus content and help support Arseblog by becoming an Arseblog Member on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/arseblog Hosted on Acast. Arsecast Extra Episode 495 - 24.10.2022
In this episode we look back on the 1-1 draw with Southampton, on a day of some frustration. Arsenal didn't make the most of their chances to win the game, but nor did we get the rub of the green when it came the officiating – with some glaring errors by the referee. We chat about that balance, but also about how heightened expectations this season make a draw away from home feel quite so bad. There's discussion of second half sloppiness and whether it was down to fatigue, as well as questions about Gabriel Jesus and his goalscoring so far this season, whether we need a 'Plan B', Fabio Vieira, more Ben White media fun, and lots more.Get extra bonus content and help support Arseblog by becoming an Arseblog Member on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/arseblog Hosted on Acast. Arsecast Extra Episode 494 - 16.10.2022
In this episode I'm joined by Andrew Allen who fills in for James who's away on holiday, and we have an extraordinary 1-0 win at Elland Road to discuss. Starting with the referee/comms delay and the suspension of the game just 60 seconds in, then to an even first half, a sensational Bukayo Saka goal to put us in front, followed by a second half full of incident and which was a exercise in endurance for Arsenal fans. Patrick Bamford had a goal disallowed and then missed a penalty as Leeds dominated the half, we couldn't get a hold on the game at all, but dug deep to hang on and take all three points, plus there was more late drama as a red card and a penalty awarded to Leeds were both overturned. Then we answer listener questions about Gabriel, who was at the centre of that late incident, rotation for the Europa League, whether grinding out a win is good, Tomiyasu, and lots more.Get extra bonus content and help support Arseblog by becoming an Arseblog Member on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/arseblog Hosted on Acast. In this episode we relive the 3-2 win over Liverpool at the Emirates yesterday, discussing the team selection and Takehiro Tomiyasu at left-back; a blistering Arsenal start and an early goal from Gabriel Martinelli; Liverpool with more control in the first half but Bukayo Saka putting us in front before the break; a better second period from us even if Firmino scored, and lots of focus on our reaction to that, the bravery to go for the win, what that says about this team and cracking the aura of difficult opposition. We also chat about how much fun the team and the stadium is right now, as well as answering questions about further tests this season, the Gabriel Jesus incident involving Tsimikas and whether he should have continued, the Aubameyang video and his comments about Mikel Arteta, Ben White's post-game interviews, contract renewals for Saliba, Saka and Martinelli, and LOTS more.Get extra bonus content and help support Arseblog by becoming an Arseblog Member on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/arseblog Hosted on Acast. Episode 697 - Expected Goals
In this episode I chat to Rory Smith about his new book 'Expected Goals', which traces the growth of data in football and how it has influenced the game as we know it today. We talk about surprising early adopters, how players were able to skew early iterations of data, the way the use of stats is often at odds with the chaos of the game, poor communication, how things may develop in the future, and lots more – including how StatDNA put Arsenal ahead of the curve back in the day, but never really provided the kind of competitive advantage it might have. The book is fascinating for stats advocates, and stats skeptics alike – and you can order it now from your local independent bookstore.Follow Rory @rorysmithHere's the link to the article mentioned: https://www.arsenal.com/news/danny-karbassiyoon-first-team-itGet extra bonus content and help support Arseblog by becoming an Arseblog Member on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/arseblog Hosted on Acast.
