YLB #61 - The PAP picks on playwright Alfian Sa’at & an Influencer rants about her helper on Instagram
Everyone knows the elections are coming, but did PAP Minister Tan Wu Meng have to resort to a personal attack on Alfian, based solely on his Facebook Posts? Or is that a sign of things to come? Elsewhere, Jessica Loh (@shiberty) caused a furore after calling her domestic helper a “c*nt” and “b*itch), and locked horns with an advocacy group. Was it just a harmless rant?

YLB #60 - ST survey causes controversy after deeming artists “non-essential” & podcasters OKLETSGO get backlash
A Sunday Times article named the top 5 essential and non-essential jobs, based on a survey. And “Artists” were deemed the most non-essential, but is that fair? Elsewhere, after OKLETSGO, Singapore’s top podcast, got backlash for apparent misogyny, some of their fans went after the detractors. But how responsible should artists be for their fans’ behaviour?

YLB #59 - Should the statue of Raffles in SG be toppled & is saying “Ni Hao Ma” racist?
With so many statues of controversial figures being toppled around the world, what about the one in SG of Sir Stamford Raffles, who’s increasingly seen as “not the nicest guy”. What about brands with “Raffles” in them? Elsewhere, a AU-born Chinese contestant from Masterchef accused a radio host for being racist by greeting her with “Ni Ha Mao?” Does she have a point?

YLB #58 - A “blackface” photo taken at RI stirs controversy & the Govt wants to track us all with wearable devices
A photo taken in 2016, of RI students wearing “blackface”, sent the Internet into uproar this week. It had a good ending, but how responsible should people be for their actions in the past? Elsewhere, the Govt announced plans to issue wearable trackers to all 5.7m people in Singapore. Could it work or is the Govt. delusional?

YLB #57 - What the #BlackLivesMatter protests mean for SG & is the SAF Safety Stoppage Card a good thing?
The racial tensions in the US have made COVID19 feel like years ago. What happened to George Floyd was horrible, but how do we wrap our heads around the protests in the US all the way from Singapore? YLB #56 - Is it fair for the “Central Park Karen” to lose her job and why Jade Rasif called out GoodyFeed for their “sexist article”
A video of Amy Cooper’s “racist” interaction with Christian Cooper was uploaded online, and within 48hrs she lost her job and her dog. What she did was indefensible, but did she deserve her punishment? Over in SG, Jade Rasif calls out GoodyFeed, a local website, for apparently twisting a genuine issue she raised into an accusation towards her as the cause. Did she have a point?

YLB #54 - The confusion of the CB exit plan & could Netflix’s “Last Dance” be more lies than truth?
On 19 May, we finally got some idea of how the CB is going to end. But it’s gonna be a LONG process, and a lot of people are unhappy. Why? Bad policy or bad comms or bad keyboard warriors? Elsewhere, Netflix’s documentary on Michael Jordan has gotten rave reviews. But was it just one BIG FAT LIE?

YLB #53 - Influencers call out CNA for misquoting them and should Parliament try live streaming (or TikTok)?
This past week, CNA misquoted 4 influencers they interviewed and Lianhe Zaobao fabricated a story about an NTU student who contracted Covid19. Both caused unnecessary confusion and Internet hate. Is it all just because of the need for CLICKBAIT? Elsewhere, Parliament has been turning down more and more queries about live-streaming their sessions. But could that be a good idea?
