11 Tips for Staying Focused and to Achieve Your Goals
[[:encoded, "As a business owner, there are things you must do in order to accomplish your goals, so you can have the kind of business and life you have dreamed of having. From managing a team to handling clients - and everything in between - it can be easy to lose complete control of your day. We all have the same 24 hours available each day; it’s how we chose to use those 24 hours that’s makes the difference.\n\nMeetings, client services, and a To-Do List a mile long are frequent daily tasks in the world of running a business. The key is to find an effective way to handle our daily routine to stay focused and on track to achieve your goals in the shortest amount of time and the least amount of effort.\n\nTip #1: Break Goals Down Into Daily Action Steps - and Track Them\nSomewhere between running a business and having a personal life, it’s not uncommon for our goals to fall by the wayside. Sure, we write out a Goal List, but it ends up at the bottom of a large stack of papers on our desk or filed away in a drawer, or in an electronic file on your desktop. If you are not paying attention to your goals on a daily basis, you’re probably taking the long way around. Break goals down into daily action steps and put them into your daily calendar/diary/or planner. Those action steps should be labeled high priority and handled as early on in the day as possible, or at the best time that leads to the best result. No excuses.\n\nTip #2: Remove Distractions and Interruptions from Your Life\nWasting time on low priority tasks is one of the most common sources of interrupting your success. Email - texting - social media - internet surfing - personal phone calls - chatting - etc. are time wasters for many of us. Work hours should be reserved for work. Distractions need to be a thing of the past and not the present, if you want to achieve your goals in the timeframe you have set. (Close email and internet outside specific time blocks. Turn off the ringer on your phone or filter calls through a team member. Remove paperwork that you are not currently working on from your sight.) Create a system that works best for you - and stick to it. Consistent execution of new habits that put you in the highest probability position to make better progress, so you can create the business and life you want is key. \n\nTip #3: Be Aware of Sabotaging Habits\nNo one is ever completely free of self-sabotaging habits, which is why it’s important to be aware of your tendencies. How the Choices We Make Impact Our Lives
[[:encoded, "Should I turn left at the fork in the road or right? Should I agree to take on a non-ideal client that could be more work than waiting for an ideal client? Is this new job offer right for me or should I stay where I am? Should I have the fish or the beef? The choices we make impact our lives – sometimes in profound ways, others in subtle ways. \n\nSometimes, though, we feel overwhelmed at the variety of options ahead of us and we can’t, or won’t, make a decision. There is a song lyric that goes something like, “if you choose not to decide you still have made a choice.” I always find that profound especially at those times when I don’t make a decision, or can’t decide which decision is the “right” one. \n\nIf you’re faced with decisions regularly, and who isn’t, it can be overwhelming. We can then start to suffer from decision fatigue. This state can impact us in small, or large ways. For example, if you get out of bed in the morning and the first thing you’re faced with is a refrigerator or cupboard full of breakfast choices, your brain is going into overload before you’ve even truly started the day. Imagine you decided the night before, “I am going to have a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast.” When you do this, you start your day without having to make a decision and can save your decision making for when you’re ready to start your workday. \n\nThere are some choices you will make in your life that have the potential to impact you in profound ways. Let’s explore three choices that I think might make a big impact: \n\n1.\tThe people with whom you surround yourself. The company you keep – professionally and personally – impacts how you see yourself, whether you’re encouraged or discouraged by them and the type of influence they may exert. Jim Rohn wrote, “you are the average of the five people with whom you spend the most time.” Who are your people and how do they impact you? Are they positive or negative? Their outlook can impact your outlook – either good or bad. \n\n2.\tHow do you spend your time? In your 24-hour day what do you do? Do you work? Care for children or aging parents? Do you have hobbies? Do you have pets with whom you spend time? When you’re not sleeping, what are you doing? You don’t have to be continually productive, but you do want to find ways to spend your days that make you happy. You can spend your time sleeping on the couch or surfing the internet or you could spend your time with friends, reading a book, learning a hobby, growing aUnlock a blueprint to creating and having your ideal business and ideal life by scheduling your free consultation with me today! 10 Tips to Get Motivated….and Stay that Way
[[:encoded, "Some days you’d rather be in bed watching Netflix, going surfing, or skiing, than picking up the phone to make client acquisition (revenue generation) calls to increase business revenue. It happens to the best of us, even those of us that love our business. When you feel uninspired to tackle that to-do list, try one or more of these 10 tips, I’m about to share with you, to ramp up your motivation level and be productive again. \n\n1.\tGet Digital. In today’s digital world, there’s an app, podcast, or video for everything, including motivation. According to American Express’s blog on motivation, commitment trackers such as Stridesapp or Beeminder can give you that extra push to keep up with your long-term and short-term goals. The article also suggested writing the goals down on pen and paper for extra focus, and I certainly agree with this, and all my clients have their specific long-range and short-range goals written down.\n\n2.\tSet Milestones. Working on a long-term goal can seem endless at times, which results in a loss in motivation. Setting smaller milestones to hit along the way keeps the motivation level up and gives you something to celebrate along the journey. As soon as you break up a large project into smaller tasks, you can start checking them off your list and feeling like you are getting the job done! \n\n3.\tReward Yourself. Give yourself something to work toward and acknowledge tasks when they are completed. When you hit a milestone, treat yourself to something. It could be a latte at Starbucks, a movie, a massage, or a new pair of shoes. Whatever makes you happy, this type of incentive is effective in maintaining motivation for both you and your team. \n\n4.\tWalk Away. For those times when you just can’t get focused, take a break from your desk and get a change of scenery. It could be a cup of coffee at the local coffee shop or a walk around the block. Changing your environment might refresh you enough to get back into it with a fresh perspective when you return to your desk. \n\n5.\tBrainstorm. Carve out a few quiet minutes to sit down alone and let your mind go. Think about ways to grow the business, get new clients, improve your marketing materials and efforts---wherever you see a weakness in your business, think about a solution to it. How can you prevent the competition from getting ahead of you? \n\n6.\tThink Positively. Sometimes, inspiration can be hard to find at work, but there is no room for negativUnlock a blueprint to creating and having your ideal business and ideal life by scheduling your free consultation with me today! How Big Thinking Can Grow Your Business
[[:encoded, "Do you surround yourself with dream squashers or are you surrounded by individuals who listen to your dreams for your business and urge you to pursue them? Do you think big for your business? Do you look at where your business stands today and think, “this is good enough” or “what if I try something new and it upsets the successes I’ve attained?” Do you give yourself enough credit to allow yourself to dream big? \n\nRemember, not every big dream has to come to fruition of a “mission accomplished.” But, every big dream may have a kernel of an action step that will help you think outside the proverbial box and could potentially spark a new idea to do something you’re currently doing better, faster, or at a higher level of income producing effect? \n\nHow Can Big Thinking Grow Your Business? \n\nTake a moment and ask yourself: What is your dream for your business? Do you want to be the next Amazon or Uber? Do you want to be the biggest XYZ firm in your city or part of the country? Are you looking to take your business nationwide or worldwide? \n\nDo you even allow yourself to have those big dreams? Many business owners, when asked, “What is the big dream for your business this year” will say: \n1.\tI’d like to bring in an additional $1,000 a month.\n2.\tI’d like to grow by 10% in clients and income.\n3.\tI’d like to outsource some of my tasks.\n4.\tI’ll be happy to maintain the status quo.\n5.\tI hadn’t even thought of a big dream… I’m just trying to maintain my current level.\n\nThis is what I call “expectation” thinking. You expect to stay where you are and that thinking leads to your getting exactly what you expected. What if you allowed yourself the audacity to say, “I’d like to grow my income by $5,000 a month” or “I want to exceed last year’s sales by 50%”.\n\nWhat’s stopping you? \n\nIs it because you’re afraid to think big? What do you think would have happened if Henry Ford hadn’t thought big? Would we have had automobiles? Every successful business started out as a small idea that was pushed to higher levels by an entrepreneur who thought big. \n\nBig, audacious goals don’t have to become setbacks if you didn’t achieve a 50% higher sales revenue. If you shot for 50% and achieved 30% isn’t that a big win? It’s certainly a bigger win than a 10% increase. Although if you’d considered a 10% increase you would likely have met that, but would it feel as good as aiming for 50% and attaining 30%? Probably not! \n\nHow can you become a big thinker in youUnlock a blueprint to creating and having your ideal business and ideal life by scheduling your free consultation with me today! 7 Steps to Find and Retain Quality Staff
[[:encoded, "Finding and retaining quality staff whether you’re hiring employees or contractors, can be a difficult task for many entrepreneurs. There are a myriad of reasons this is true. It takes a focused, strategic approach to hiring and growing your team that will help propel you and your business forward. \n\nSometimes, though, no matter how well you have hired and how many strategies you have in place for a “good hire” it just doesn’t work out and you have to start over. Starting over with hiring and training a new employee or even getting a contractor up to speed on what you need done is a drain – physically and emotionally for the entrepreneur and financially for the business. \n\nHow can you find and retain quality staff? \n\nLet’s explore 7 steps you can take that can help you increase your success. \n1.\tBe very clear on what you want the individual to do. If you hire someone and they think they are doing A and you want them to do B and perhaps C, and you didn’t tell them up front, they may balk and leave. If you hire for task A but then add on B and C without further compensation you may have to re-hire or pay to train them, if you are interested. If you believed you were hiring for A, B, and C, you need to be clear about the tasks and the expectations for everyone’s benefit. \n\n2.\tLeave the door open for negotiation on tasks and responsibilities. You may hire someone who far exceeds your expectations and your business grows. It may get to the point where, because of growth, you need to hire a new person who can take on tasks D and E. Don’t forget to ask the original hire whether he or she can, or wants to, take on those new tasks, if they have the skill set to do them. Don’t overlook a chance to promote from within. Just because you hired for a person for ABC, doesn’t mean that individual doesn’t have other hidden talents you’ve never discussed. The people that get you to one level, might be or might not be the same people to help you get to your next level of success.\n\n3.\tHave a very clear and specific written job description. It is not enough to simply say what you want done. Give the new team member a detailed job description – not so detailed that it’s novel length, but detailed enough that you both understand the deliverables and agree to them. \n\n4.\tBe open to suggestions on potential changes to procedures. If you have a new staff member who looks at some of your current procedures (assuming you have all tasks documented, which most firmsUnlock a blueprint to creating and having your ideal business and ideal life by scheduling your free consultation with me today! What Can You Do to Stop Wasting Time and Stay Focused?
[[:encoded, "It is way too easy to let the day get away from you simply because you are unfocused. When this happens, it may not be detrimental to your business and its viability. But if you find that you’re wasting time daily and can’t stay focused, you will begin to lose motivation because you’re not seeing to-dos getting checked off. If your business is suffering you may not even place the blame on being unfocused, but it could very well be the case. \n\nDo you find yourself staring out the window or scrolling through social media and tell yourself, “I’m just going to look on social media for five minutes” then discover that it’s been a half an hour or an hour or longer? It’s easy to get distracted. It’s easy to lose focus and when this happens regularly you need to determine the underlying cause. If you were formerly focused and stuck to tasks and didn’t waste time, what is happening now that you’re not focused? \n\nFor many entrepreneurs the reason for losing focus and wasting time is procrastination, pure and simple. If you want to manage your time effectively and be more efficient and productive you need to get to the root cause of your lack of focus. \n\nLet’s first look at four habits that waste your time and that are insidious to productivity. \n\n1.\tThe internet and social media. If you’re researching an item for your business it is easy to go down a rabbit hole, and it’s also easy to get off track from your original research topic. If you don’t have the willpower to stay off the internet or from constantly checking email or responding to social media pings. Turn off the apps that distract you and reward yourself with social media or email time once the task(s) at hand has been completed. \n2.\tKeep your work housed on one device. When you switch between your work desktop and your home laptop and check your email on your phone and not your computer and then pull out your tablet to scroll social media you are pulling your focus into too many directions. Every time you move from one device to another you are more likely to get distracted. \n3.\tHave a schedule and use a calendar. If you write down your tasks and have a specific schedule for particular tasks you are more likely to keep your focus and not waste time. Set a timer while you’re working on a particular task and don’t let yourself stop until the timer goes off. Avoid the distraction of setting the timer on your phone unless you use a voice command to do so. Once you open your phone and get to tUnlock a blueprint to creating and having your ideal business and ideal life by scheduling your free consultation with me today! 11 Principles for Increased Business and Personal Success
[[:encoded, "Business owners typically “live” their principles. They may not stand up and shout, “Here are the principles by which I run my business and live my life” but their principles are embedded in their thoughts, words, and actions. \n\nIf you’re not certain what your business principles are, if you want to add more principles to your arsenal, or if you simply want to understand business principles, let’s explore a list of 11 for you to ponder. \n\nOne of the challenges many people struggle with is trying to have personal satisfaction while running a business without sacrificing one for the other. Your principles will help drive your business and help you get back to a more satisfying personal life. \n\n1.\tWhat are your strengths? When you focus on what you’re strong in, you can find ways to address business weaknesses. One way to best address a business weakness is to delegate those tasks at which you struggle. When you do this, you remove that struggle from your plate, and you can fully focus on the strengths you bring to the table. I think it is better to work on strengths and delegate everything else, if possible. \n\n2.\tFocus on short-term goals on your way toward your large dreams. When you are striving toward an audacious goal, you may sacrifice personal or family time in its pursuit. When you set short-term goals, you can work toward them, chip away at the larger goal, and know that you’re making progress without sacrificing your dreams. \n\n3.\tWhat personal goals do you have? If you aren’t certain how your business will enhance your personal goals, how will you know if you’ve reached personal satisfaction nirvana? Personal goals should be the driving force behind business goals. Know what you want to, and need to, achieve personally, then work your business dreams around those principle-driven goals. \n\n4.\tDo you practice what you preach? If you “preach” about taking the weekends off of work to recharge your batteries, but you spend the weekends working and sacrificing personal time, you need to take a step back and rethink where your principles got off track and get back on track. \n\n5.\tCelebrate wins at work and at home. When your personal and your business principles mesh you can and should celebrate. Even if you’re a solopreneur, unless you’re single and have no immediate family and don’t even share your life with a goldfish – you are NOT going it alone. A supportive personal team will help you achieve your business goals. 4 Insights for Goal Setting - Find Your North Star
[[:encoded, "The North Star (or Polaris), located directly above the North Celestial Pole, holds a lot of meaning. While it’s not the brightest star, it’s easy to locate. As an actual, noteworthy, and reliable point in the night sky, it’s a significant symbol for guidance and achievement. \n\nConsider these examples. For centuries, ships relied on celestial navigation, guided by the North Star. In addition, the North Star offered hope and freedom for the enslaved during abolition. While you may not be crossing literal seas or lands, the idea of finding the North Star—your North Star—can highlight the value of goal setting. \n\nHaving a goal, no matter the size, is crucial for reaching success in any venture. Imagine attending a meeting or announcing a new policy without any idea of your end goal. Not only would that be confusing, but it would also slow down productivity—and possibly hurt the collective morale and trust of your team members. \n\nInstead, setting your sights on a goal, or North Star, offers you and your team a clear vision. Once you understand the significance of goal setting, you’ll be able to set realistic and ambitious goals with ease. Let’s explore four insights to shine light on the value of goals—and lay a clear path toward your North Star of success.\n\nInsight #1: Start with Clarity in Mind\nFirst, clarity for your goals is vital. If you don’t know where your business is going, it’s impossible to achieve real progress. And without a clear roadmap and explanation, a goal could appear unnecessary or out of place to your employees. \n\nFor example, you wouldn’t choose a random number of sales as your goal without taking the time to research what makes the most sense for your firm’s success. Nor would you ask your employees to waste time in unnecessary meetings or to duplicate work processes. If you’re setting up a product launch, though, you’d ensure your item sells well by clarifying how to get those sales. Start your goal-setting process by clarifying the steps needed to get where you’re going.\n\nInsight #2: Determine Direction and Details\nNext, having a sense of direction when goal setting is crucial. Imagine a child’s birthday party with a piñata: blindfolded youngsters swing wildly in hopes of breaking open all the candy. While this is fun for a celebration, it’s not the way to set goals! \n\nMaking sure you’re heading in the right direction with goal setting is key—instead of swinging wildly in hopes of getting it right.
