Ep 46: It’s Time to Address Covid-19
I finally devote a full episode to Covid-19. I discuss why I believe that holistic health (exercise, dieting, and drinking water) is the best method for ensuring health and building an immune system. Then we talk about how the FDA’s budgeting method allows pharmaceutical companies to craft regulations that benefit their financial interests at the expense of competition and the health of the American public. We then look at how the World Economic Forum, the World Health Organization, John Hopkins, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation planned a pandemic response in 2018 and 2019 that was eerily similar to the blueprint used by the political class and the media in 2020. We then look at a few articles that demonstrate that the response to Covid by the government and media was not based on evidence or statistics, and how that lead to an over-counting of deaths and an overestimation of the efficacy of the MRNA vaccines. We finish off by discussing the side effects of the vaccines and how we should try to move the conversation about Covid forward. Ep 42: How the West Brought War to Ukraine with Benjamin Abelow
In this episode I sit down with Benjamin Abelow, who is the author of ‘How the West Brought War to Ukraine: Understanding How U.S. and NATO Policies Led to Crisis, War, and the Risk of Nuclear Catastrophe’. We discuss this book, and Abelow gives us an incredible summary of the historical context of the war, the extent of western provocations towards Russia, and the prospects for peace following the conflict. If you want to understand the war in Ukraine, this episode is absolutely essential! Abelow believes that Western policies in Ukraine are badly misguided and are causing great harm to the people of Ukraine, Europe, the United States, Russia, and the rest of the world. Abelow previously worked in Washington, DC, where he lobbied Congress about nuclear arms policy. He holds a B.A. in European history from the University of Pennsylvania and a medical degree from Yale University. His other areas of interest include the psychology of trauma, including war trauma. Ep 41: 1 Samuel 8 | A Biblical Critique of Monarchy
In this episode, we explore how the writer of 1 Samuel 8 expressed concerns about Israel’s monarchy in particular and human government in general. We set 1 Samuel in the context of the Old Testament’s narrative of Israel’s covenant with God and the consequences of failing to remain faithful. We will compare this with Murray Rothbard’s observation in Anatomy of the State that the state has a monopoly on violence and generates revenue through coercion. We then look at some of the Biblical and practical conclusions that our reading of 1 Samuel 8 generates. This is a great preliminary dive into the Bible’s political theology! Episode Outline:I. A Review of Rothbard’s Anatomy of the StateII. The Dangers of Importing Modern Ideas into Ancient TextsIII. Context: The Covenantal Narrative of the Old TestamentIV. 1 Samuel 8V. Ep 40: Why the Pledge of Allegiance is Un-American with Tom Mullen
On this episode, I sit down with Tom Mullen, and author and host of the Tom Mullen Talks Freedom podcast, to discuss an article he wrote a few years back for the Foundation of Economic Education entitled ‘Why the Pledge of Allegiance is Un-American. We discuss the problem of pledge-making to the state, why phrases like ‘one nation’, ‘under God’, and ‘indivisible’ are at odds with historic American values, and how decentralization can solve many of our complicated political problems. We also explain why pledging allegiance to a state is incompatible with the values of all religious people. This is a fascinating conversation about American history, politics, and libertarian philosophy. Ep 39: Can the Pastors Save Our Divided Country?
In this episode, I look at an article published in the fall of 2022 by Barna Group, an organization that does research related to Christianity and American culture. The article, which is entitled Does a Divided Public Look to Pastors for Guidance?’, looks at the statistics surrounding which people or institutions Americans trust to make a positive change in society. Shockingly, many Americans, even those that don’t go to church, still think that religious leaders should give guidance on issues that divide our nation. I break down the article, and then offer a theological reflection of it based on Revelation 5, 1 Timothy 3, and James 4. I argue that Jesus is the messiah, that we are his people, and that church leaders enable us as the people of God to make a positive difference in the world.
