The Get More Smarter Podcast - A Weekly Show About Colorado Politics
The Get More Smarter Podcast is a weekly overview of Colorado politics. The podcast is hosted by seasoned Colorado politicos Jason Bane of ColoradoPols.com and Ian Silverii, former 9News talking head, former Denver Post Columnist, former Executive Director of ProgressNow Colorado, and current has-been. Each week they dive into the local and national news, and for some reason, have had Governors, US Senators, Members of Congress, and countless local elected officials as guests over the years. The guys are also frighteningly good at predicting the future. No, really. Are you ready to Get More Smarter?

Get More Smarter Before Election Day!
Send us a message! Really! This week on the Get More Smarter Podcast, we make our final prognostications of the 2022 election cycle! We also talk with pollster-extraordinaire Andrew Baumann of Global Strategy Group so that you'll know what to watch out for -- both nationally and in Colorado -- as election results start trickling in on Tuesday. Your friends will be really amazed at how smart you are when you tell them what it means when the first batch of results are reported in [checks notes] eastern Indiana.

State Sen. Kevin Priola Gets More Smarter
Send us a message! Really! This week on the Get More Smarter Podcast, the 2022 election is nearly here! Get that ballot off your table and into a dropbox! There have been A LOT of debates this cycle, and that’s probably a good thing for democracy; we'll talk about some of them. Republican gubernatorial candidate Heidi Ganahl, or someone on her campaign, gets outed as the brains behind one of the most vile and racist twitter accounts in #copolitics; with Election Day around the corner, Ganahl just lets her freak flag fly. The 2020 election was not riddled with fraud, and yet, a large portion of the GOP still believes it -- will they accept the results of an election they'll probably lose? The Colorado Springs Gazette editorial board decides to "well, actually" Adolf Hitler and the Nazis; and we have a new segment that is both informative and (we hope) entertaining. But first...Democratic State Senator Kevin Priola joins us to talk about switching parties from red to blue, what issues he’ll break with his new party on, and why democracy is still worth defending.

The Blue Wave Cometh in Colorado (feat. Andrew Baumann)
Send us a message! Really! This week on the Get More Smarter Podcast, Election Day is less than 3 weeks away! Will it be a red ripple, a blue wave, a green tsunami, or another color and a different meteorological event? Our guest, Andrew Baumann of Global Strategy Group, takes us through the latest "Mountaineer" polling for the answers. Later, the Colorado Springs Gazette only endorses Republicans, but their news team does great journalism, so how should we think about this news outlet? There are 11 statewide initiatives and many, many more local questions on this year’s ballot, we’ll talk about…some of them. And Colorado Republicans seem to think that you must be winning if your opponent is running a real campaign but you are not; we make an effort to understand this bizarre logic.

What Time is It? Voting Time! (feat. Alec Garnett)
Send us a message! Really! This week on the Get More Smarter Podcast, ballots drop THIS WEEK, so get your voting dobbers ready! We’ll take you through all the latest news, including the fact that Ganahl’s Ghouls just will not stop talking about furries (Heidi Ganahl's campaign won't stop talking about a LOT of things -- we'll get to that, too). Newly minted Democratic Senator Kevin Priola will not face a recall until he represents his new constituents after redistricting, which is honestly the only logical outcome from this stupid, doomed, expensive, quixotic adventure the GOP tried to go on in the middle of an election they apparently have no interest in. But first, we talk again with Colorado Speaker of the House Alec Garnett about the next group of House leaders and his predictions for Election Day.

Get Even More Weiserer (feat. AG Phil Weiser)
Send us a message! Really! This week on the Get More Smarter Podcast, the Furry Fury continues, and it’s no one’s fault but the person who keeps bringing it up, GOP gubernatorial candidate Heidi Ganahl. With about 4 weeks left until election day and less than 2 weeks before ballots go out, we check in on the big races in Colorado so you don’t have to. Colorado is contributing plenty of candidates to the nationwide list of election denying Republicans running for office, but the good news is the ones from here will probably lose. There is still crime in Aurora despite the city being run by Republicans; how can that possibly be!?!?! And we get another legendary rant from the One and Only Christy Powell. But first, Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser returns to the show to update us on his re-election campaign, law enforcement issues in Colorado, and bracing yourself for another potentially devastating Supreme Court docket. *We can’t believe this, either, but we’re about to hit 50,000 downloads of the Get More Smarter podcast. Thanks to each and every one of you for listening, for subscribing, and for sharing the show with your friends. Ever since we started, Colorado has gone from purple to bright, bright blue. Coincidence? Well probably, but we’re gonna take the credit anyway.

Crazier Than a Bag of Squirrels
Send us a message! Really! This week on the Get More Smarter Podcast, a certain Republican candidate for Colorado Governor is pilled to the gills, or the ears, or the claws. The self-described “pro life” candidate for US Senate who is described by other people as “pro choice” not only voted for an abortion ban that lost by 20 points...he actually signed the petition to get it on the ballot. The GOP candidate for Attorney General may have waved off the only group in the country willing to help him win his election; some candidates choose not to run TV ads, which is actually a really big mistake; Republicans are starting to freak out about what happens if they win the US House in 2022 (Our advice? Stop trying to win the House in 2022); and we try out a new game, where there are no winners and everyone is a loser.

Nobody Has Anything Good to Say (Except Us)
Send us a message! Really! This week on the Get More Smarter Podcast, Joe O’D’OH! really boxes himself in on an issue it’s clear he didn’t ever think about once before becoming a politician; he has now taken every side known to man, and he’s using his own family members as human political shields. Heidi Ganahl is still trying to win the primary she already somehow won, and doesn’t seem to understand anything about the job she’s trying to get elected to; Colorado Congressional races get the national spotlight, and it’s bad news for the first dude in the phone book; we’ve got some interesting cross-party endorsements and one of the “normal” GOP candidates has to explain why all of these election deniers keep showing up to take photos with her; Lauren Boebert and Ken Buck are embarrassments to Colorado, and Doug Lamborn probably is, too; and at least Ron DeSantis is not our governor.

Asshats in Key States
Send us a message! Really! This week on the Get More Smarter Podcast, Republican Senate candidate Joe O’Dea appoints himself the arbiter of the balance of women’s rights; finally, a man who is brave enough and strong enough to tell women what rights they can and cannot have! The battles for Colorado’s competitive congressional seats are heating up, and Ian personally doesn’t have any stake in the outcome whatsoever. We’ve got another fundraising quarter in the books for statewide contests, and it appears only one side of the aisle knows there’s a campaign going on. There's also no indication that significant national Republican money is coming to Colorado because the GOP needs to help a bunch of other asshats in key states. A local MAGA millionaire says he'll light a huge bucket of money on fire because he doesn’t like Jared Polis, or something. The Kevin Priola recall clock is ticking, and you'll never believe which day is their deadline to submit signatures. Oh, and the race is on for Denver Mayor despite the current election still being 8 weeks away!
