“I Read Them All” ft. Sam Klemet of the Detroit Auto Show
My Drive. My City. My Show. Although written as three individual statements as part of the high-octane creative campaign around the Detroit Auto Show, we could easily rephrase them as questions. For us in The 313, what does our drive look like? What should our city be? And what does our show—the Detroit Auto Show—mean to us?
Sam Klemet, Executive Director of the Detroit Auto Dealers Association, joins AV Radio host Carl Anthony for a heartfelt discussion about the 2026 Detroit Auto Show and the immersive experience that awaits attendees. A journalist by nature, Sam recalls his early days in radio and his tenure as President and CEO of the Michigan Association of Broadcasters, and how those experiences prepared him to eventually helm the Detroit Auto Show.
He also shares the legacy he hopes the Detroit Auto Show will one day leave and why, when it comes to criticisms of the event, it’s essential to “read them all.”

Notable Events In Los Angeles: On-Road Evaluation of Active Driving Assistance Systems
Although ADAS features can be beneficial in certain situations, drivers must remain diligent and engaged behind the wheel. In a comprehensive study, AAA researchers evaluated five passenger vehicles with low-speed-capable active driving assistance systems across the Los Angeles metropolitan area.
Two primary objectives were established for the study: How do the active driving assistance systems of late-model vehicles perform in heavy traffic, and how does a hands-off system compare with a hands-on system?
AV Radio host Carl Anthony summarizes the findings of this AAA study, in which the ADAS systems under test experienced a "notable event" every nine minutes.

Inside The InCabin Space ft. Sara Sargent of Sense Media Group
From biometric sensing, connectivity, and audio innovations on the technology side, to DMS/OMS, health and wellness, and personalization on the application side, the in-cabin ecosystem is expanding, fueled by rapid demand in China, new regulations, and even the implementation of AI and synthetic data.
As vehicles increasingly become our "third spaces," how do we ensure such spaces are safe, comfortable, and productive? If we are working in the automotive industry, and specifically, the in-cabin space, how can we keep up with the latest trends and technologies?
Sara Sargent, Principal Brand Strategist for the global InCabin conference, organized by Sense Media Group, joins us for this edition of AV Radio. Although an already established ADAS engineer, Sara recalls the steep learning curve when she first entered the in-cabin space and how interfacing with companies and stakeholders eventually shaped her vision for the InCabin conference.
She also shares why personalization is paramount in the Chinese automotive market, how audio innovations will contribute to future vehicle design, and why having a sense of humor is always a good thing.

An Interoperable Ecosystem at The Silicon Level ft. Daniel Shwartzberg of Valens Semiconductor
Valens Semiconductor continues to be a key contributor to and champion for the MIPI A-PHY standard, the first such standard in automotive developed for high-speed sensor and display connectivity. MIPI A-PHY is designed to meet next-generation ADAS requirements, enabling high-bandwidth, low-latency connectivity to ensure passenger safety throughout the entire vehicle lifecycle.
While global adoption of the standard is ongoing, China in particular has become a pioneering region in terms of A-PHY, being home to vendors of platforms, SoCs, silicon, camera sensors, and IP & development tools, all supplying A-PHY products. The A-PHY ecosystem in China is expanding in response to market demand, especially as Chinese OEMs move at a lightning pace.
Daniel Shwartzberg, Director of Business Development and System Solutions at Valens Semiconductor, joins AV Radio Host Carl Anthony for a discussion about MIPI A-PHY, its growing presence in China, and how a significant announcement by Mobileye will further propel the A-PHY standard. Recorded during AutoSens and InCabin USA 2025 in Detroit, Daniel also shares how a new Valens diagnostic solution can reduce vehicle repair costs and what he enjoys most about this work.

At The Intelligent Edge ft. Javed Khan of Aptiv
The phrase "living on the edge" is commonly associated with risky and potentially dangerous behavior. However, in an automotive context, living at the "intelligent edge" might be a catalyst for a safer vehicle, one equipped with next-generation ADAS features that make quicker and more intuitive decisions. Likewise, the intelligence edge can provide a more personalized in-vehicle experience for future car buyers.
Javed Khan, EVP & President of Software, Advanced Safety and User Experience at Aptiv, joins us for a discussion about what is meant by the intelligent edge and why understanding such a concept is essential in an era of software-defined vehicles. Recorded at Aptiv's Troy Technical Center, Javed also shares key technical leadership lessons and what he enjoys most about his work.

Inverters, S Curves & Curiosity ft. Matt Hortop of AVL
This episode is sponsored by AVL, a leading mobility technology company recognized globally for its engineering, simulation, and testing solutions in the automotive industry.
Matt Hortop, Electrified Vehicle Research Scientist at AVL Test Systems, joined Carl Anthony at the 2025 Reimagine Mobility Conference. During their reception fireside chat, Matt expanded on a few key points regarding vehicle electrification:
-- Headlines Versus Headwinds: Although total combined power outputs are attention-grabbing, behind the scenes, engineers once contended with less-than-desirable testing equipment for validating critical EV system components.
-- Time Savings Bank: Matt and his colleagues work diligently to save AVL customers time and resources in the long run, ultimately allowing them more opportunities for innovation.
-- EVs & The S Curve: EVs open up new opportunities for consumers to experience vehicle ownership (i.e., software-defined cars). With each product iteration comes a new and different way for drivers to interact with their vehicles. These changes, whether for the powertrain technology or the owner's experience inside the car, necessitate a more rigorous testing and development process.
-- Stay Curious: Matt encourages all automotive professionals to ask lots of questions and take prediction timelines with a grain of salt.

Artistry In Motion: Inside The 2026 Infiniti QX60
On a carefree summer evening in the early 1990s, AV Radio host Carl Anthony and his childhood friends "discovered" a sporty black car in the neighbor's driveway up the street. In a rural Iowa town where trucks and minivans dominated, this mysterious machine halted 10-speed bikes, grounded all flying footballs, and shut down the nightly water gun fights.
Never had a vehicle interrupted the activity of the kids on Ridgewood Drive, a candy-cane-shaped road at the edge of a tall cornfield.
Many in the automotive industry can recall a similar story where a particular car made a profound impact on them. And all these years later, that vehicle, for any number of reasons, still resonates with them. Infiniti engineers Anand Patel and James Mastronardi feel that same passion each day, most recently through their work on the 2026 QX60.
In this special edition of AV Radio, Anand and James guide Carl through the 2026 Infiniti QX60, helping him gain a deeper understanding of the vehicle's new camera technology, turbocharged powertrain, and Artistry in Motion design language.
In This AV Radio Episode:
-- Brief history of Infiniti.
-- Google built-in connectivity.
-- Klipsch Reference Premiere audio system.
-- ProPILOT Assist 2.1 features and functionality.
-- The link between the 2025 QX80 and the 2026 QX60.
-- Engine isolation measures for the VC Turbo powertrain.
-- Front Wide and Invisible Hood View camera technologies.
-- 2026 QX60 content by trim level, including the new Sport model.
-- What Anand and James enjoy most about their work on the 2026 QX60.
