Focus on the 'big balls' like passive activity losses (PALs) that can reduce your adjusted gross income (AGI). When a taxpayer has a loss from a passive activity, they can use that loss to offset income from other passive activities, as well as income from non-passive activities, up to the amount of their taxable income from all sources.
