In addition to learning some new information about the current state of MDMA research, Rick ends the Q&A session with some information about mescaline that I'd never heard before. As he says, "Mescaline is the most important psychedelic that isn't being researched." Also, there is an announcement about a screening of the film "From Shock To Awe" that was discussed here in the salon three years ago when the producers were first raising the funding for the project. It has now been completed and will be screened in select theaters on November 12, 2018. Full details are at the beginning of today's program. Today's podcast features the 2018 Palenque Norte Lecture given by Rick Doblin, the president of MAPS. In addition to a detailed description of the interaction between MAPS and the Veterans Administration, Rick also gives a detailed account of the now concluded Phase 2 study along with an explanation of how they believe MDMA works to relieve the symptoms of PTSD. As he says about the efficacy of the process he says, "What we found at twelve months is that people keep getting better. So at twelve months, two-thirds of the people no longer have PTSD. And of the one-third who still have PTSD, most of them have had a clinically significant reduction in symptoms, even though they still have PTSD."
