CV120: Seth for Privacy - Opt Out

Show support appreciated: donations.cryptovoices.com Show Sponsor: hodlhodl.com/join/cryptovoices Matthew and Alec interview Seth for Privacy, host of the Opt Out podcast. Seth runs the gamut on a variety of important privacy topics, providing some good deep dives on tools and how to manage your digital exhaust these days. He first provides an overview on how he fell down the privacy rabbit hole and how that related to the crypto space. We start out on when we can reasonably expect to fight our own privacy battles, from when we're on the corporate dime, to when we're walking around in public. We do many deep dives on mobile. From Android to Apple, there are plenty of FOSS tools to manage your mobile internet connectivity, and beyond here Seth overviews all of this on his blog and pod. What about your contact list? What happens when Signal or any other app asks for your contact details? Are your friends' settings upholding your privacy ideals? What about managing physical addresses? We explore the benefits of Bitcoin and privacy, along with all of its long-published challenges (Chainalysis among them). Beyond that, there are ways to further manage privacy with Monero, from toxic change to transactions. Seth is a big fan of Monero, and he provides some interesting details on how Monero can offer supplementary tools to Bitcoin usage. He recommends Bitwarden as a password manager and DeleteMe to manage data brokers (links below). Listen on to learn more. Show support appreciated: donations.cryptovoices.com Show Sponsor: hodlhodl.com/join/cryptovoices Matthew and Alec reflect on the podcast, five years on from the first episode (crypto educational narrations referred to as 'chapters' in those days). Bottom line, the hosts are very excited to bump up the economic content very soon via streaming, and continue the journey toward more privacy and freedom with Bitcoin. Thank you very much to all of you who have listened to the content over the years, interacted with us, and supported the show in so many ways. Listen on to learn more. CV118: Dr. Gregory S. Carmichael - DEUS Opportunity Fund

Show support appreciated: donations.cryptovoices.com Show Sponsor: hodlhodl.com/join/cryptovoices Matthew and Alec interview Greg Carmichael, founder and manager of the DEUS Opportunity Fund. Greg flew F-16s for the US Air Force for 31 years. He graduated from Indiana University with a double degree in Physics and Chemistry, holds a Masters in International Relations from Oklahoma State University, and a Doctorate of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. He has more than 40 years of experience trading derivatives in the traditional markets, and has been very active trading in the Bitcoin and crypto markets. This is a very good interview on Matthew's favourite business/ investing phrase: caveat emptor. There have been many opportunities to multiply capital returns in Bitcoin terms (and in USD terms), and Greg breaks down his ways and methods, based on his lifetime of experience in the traditional markets. He talks about doing this (the fund, and his life in general) in a private and personalised manner (he uses Halo Privacy). He elucidates on the positives of living in Puerto Rico, where he coincidentally even gave a Bitcoin investing presentation in Peter Schiff's house!! Greg gives a great breakdown on the benefits and risks of trading the crypto market, versus the traditional markets. We also have very important discussions about one's cost of capital (in Bitcoin terms!), the risk-free rate, what that means in a Bitcoin-denominated world, and the risks and rewards of hodling BTC versus more actively investing. Unfortunately the last 30 minutes of the interview was cut short due to an issue with our podcasting software (first time ever), where we discuss Greg's views on stock-to-flow and Bitcoin liquidity floor investing. There's definitely more interesting fodder to discuss, and we will indeed do so soon (as Alec mentions before he exits). Probably the last episode before Christmas and New Year. Happy holidays and godspeed in 2022 everyone. Thank you so much for listening to the show. There is much more content coming next year!! If you are interested in speaking with Greg about his fund, please contact him directly: carmichaeladv@gmail.com. Listen on to learn more. Laurent breaks down his recent trip to El Salvador, where he attended the Adopting Bitcoin conference, and where President Bukele announced the Bitcoin City project and Bitcoin bonds for the country. For those interested in pursuing residency abroad or more on the whole situation there, from the Chivo Wallet to Bitcoin Beach to business, this interview is a great primer. Show support appreciated: https://donations.cryptovoices.com Show Sponsor: https://hodlhodl.com/join/cryptovoices Matthew, Alec, and Michel break down the latest Monetary Base Update for 2021 Q3, published by Crypto Voices on Twitter last week. A highlight in the last edition is that Bitcoin's value is right on the cusp of passing the oldest fiat currency in the world: the pound sterling. CV115: Alex Gladstein - Human Rights & Bitcoin

Show support appreciated: https://donations.cryptovoices.com Show Sponsor: https://hodlhodl.com/join/cryptovoices Matthew, Alec, and Michel interview Alex Gladstein, Chief Strategy Officer of the Human Rights Foundation and Oslo Freedom Forum. We begin with the Human Rights Foundation's efforts to help the people of Eastern Europe living under the dictatorships in Russia and Belarus. Mirroring the educational efforts Alex has been working on for quite a while now concerning the parallels between human rights and Bitcoin, HRF has indeed helped in relaying the benefits of Bitcoin to locals in Eastern Europe (https://hrf.org/belarus). With the help of their solidarity fund, and instead of the traditional payment channels, Bitcoin really did allow capital relief to flow into Belarus and support protestors and unemployed workers, avoiding bank restrictions in the locked down country. Alex elucidates on some of the challenges involved in educating and calling to action those who enjoy basic rights and liberties in the Western world. We discuss how the lockdowns have paradoxically compelled some freedom lovers in the West to declare that places like Belarus (due to their lack of restrictions) are actually "more free." (And this has been occurring long before the virus, due to lack of understanding, the cool dictator factor, etc.). He gives some thoughts on the Magnitsky Act and the modern idea of Western smart sanctions on visas and financial assets of corrupt dictators and cronies from the East, who hold assets, live, and educate their children in the West. And of course, how does Bitcoin fit into this picture? What are the marketing benefits of Bitcoin... and what are the marketing challenges against Bitcoin... vis-a-vis those who support the Magnitsky Act? We discuss the El Salvador story in light of this as well. Alex explains why peaceful protesting really does have a better track record historically, compared to taking up violence and civil war. We talk important privacy questions for those living in tenuous Human Rights' circumstances, touching on capital controls and surveillance in areas from Afghanistan to Sudan to China. CV114: Joshua Scigala - Vaultoro & The Standard

Show support appreciated: https://donations.cryptovoices.com Show Sponsor: https://hodlhodl.com/join/cryptovoices Matthew and Alec interview Josh Scigala, founder and CEO of Vaultoro, and co-founder of new stablecoin project "The Standard." Really fascinating interview, we run the gamut on Bitcoin, gold, stablecoins, CBDCs, money, banking, and politics. Josh discusses some of the benefits of using Vaultoro versus other traditional fiat exchanges. As with anything, there are tradeoffs, but holding wealth in a rock solid, battle tested asset such as gold brings unique benefits. Having an account that can easily be paired/exchanged with Bitcoin makes things all the more interesting. We cover gold security, vaulting, jurisdictions, and privacy. Josh gives a thorough overview on why systems like Vaultoro are much better for managing gold vaults than decentralized options that have come and gone over the years. As well, Vaultoro assets can be leveraged for lending much more transparently and efficiently, which he explains his team is working toward with The Standard protocol. It's a new stablecoin project their team is working on, and he goes really in depth on why algorithmic stablecoins have a brighter future than centralized fiat stablecoins (which rely on an interest spread from their investments), especially when so many fiat environments yield negative interest. We continue on with more historical questions on fungibility, banking, interest, regulation, and geopolitics. Listen on to learn more.
