A Journeywoman is Being Sanctified with Gavin Ortlund

Today we’re continuing our series “What is a Journeywoman” by diving into the topic of sanctification, because a Journeywoman is always being sanctified. We’re going back to a conversation we had with Gavin Ortlund on the topic. Gavin is a husband, father, pastor, and writer. We talked about how the Lord uses the seasons and challenges of life to encourage us to turn to the Word, to pray, and to be actively involved in our local churches—all things that the Lord uses to bring about holiness in us.  We pray this episode encourages you as you continue to work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, knowing that it is God who works in you for his good pleasure (Phil. 2:12-13). DISCUSSION QUESTIONS What means has the Lord used to grow you in the grace and knowledge of Christ throughout your life? How does rooting your sanctification in your justification allow you to rest in God’s work? How might you shift your prayer life to increase your reliance on the role of the Holy Spirit in your sanctification? Sanctification is a (sometimes slow) process. How does knowing that bring you encouragement as you see the ways God is gradually growing you? What might you do or change based on what you learned in this week’s episode?   SPONSORS Dwell is an audio Bible app with unique features to help you get in the Word and stay in the Word. A Journeywoman's Identity is in Christ with Matt Lantz

In this week’s episode, we’re throwing it back to a conversation I had with my friend and former mentor, Matt Lantz, on the topic of identity and how we live out our God-given design. God has created each of us uniquely, with specific wirings and gifts so that we might use those strengths for the glory of God. God has also called each of us—to specific places, roles, and tasks—so that we might make much of him wherever he has placed us. Matt will dive more into all of this in this episode, so we hope you will richly benefit from his wisdom on these topics! We pray this conversation encourages you to prayerfully consider what it looks like to live in light of who you are in Christ.   DISCUSSION QUESTIONS What is identity? What influences your identity?  In one sentence, how would you describe who God has created you to be and what he has called you to do? In what ways do you currently live out the identity and calling God has given you? How has your community influenced and shaped your identity and calling? What might you do or implement as a result of listening to this week’s episode?   SPONSORS SEBTS offers flexible degree options that empower you to study the Bible deeply and teach God’s Word. A Journeywoman Seeks to Know God with Christine Gordon

In this week’s episode, we’re throwing it back to a conversation we shared years ago with Christine Gordon about how a Journeywoman seeks to know and love God more. Christine Gordon (aka Chris) is the co-founder of At His Feet Bible Studies and a visiting instructor at Covenant Theological Seminary, where she also attended and earned her Master of Arts in Theological Studies. We hope you’ll walk away from this conversation encouraged to know and love God more through his Word and that you’ll press into your local body of believers to encourage and be encouraged by your brothers and sisters who are also striving to that end.  Our hope is that this episode encourages you to simply seek to know and love God more today than you did yesterday. That is what being a Journeywoman is all about, day by day, until we find ourselves at THE day when we get to be together with him, forever.  DISCUSSION QUESTIONS What are the primary ways that God reveals himself to us? How can you know God more? How does knowing and loving God change who you are and the way you live? What specific steps can you take to grow in your knowledge of and love for God? What are you going to do or implement as a result of what you’ve learned this week?   SPONSORS Dwell is an audio Bible app with unique features to help you get in the Word and stay in the Word. A Journeywoman is Redeemed with Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

You might regularly listen to the Journeywomen podcast, but have you considered what a journeywoman is? Well, today we’re kicking off a series where we’re seeking to answer the question: What is a Journeywoman?  In our first episode, we’re going back to a conversation we shared with Nancy Wolgemuth on living in light of redemption, because a journeywoman is redeemed. Nancy Wolgemuth has touched the lives of millions of women through Revive Our Hearts and the True Woman movement, calling them to heart revival and biblical womanhood. Nancy and her husband, Robert, live in Michigan. Our hope and prayer is that this episode encourages you to remember the great story of redemption and to walk with people to the cross—to Jesus. That is what being a Journeywoman is all about.  DISCUSSION QUESTIONS What is redemption? What does God’s story of redemption look like over all of history? What helps you remember God’s redeeming power in your own life?  How does the reality of redemption offer you hope in the current struggles you are facing?  Read 2 Corinthians 4:17-18. What is the hope we have?    SPONSORS SEBTS offers flexible degree options that empower you to study the Bible deeply and teach God’s Word. Blind Spots 04: Legalism with Jason Cook

Today we’re wrapping up our Blind Spots series with a conversation on legalism with Jason Cook. If you don’t know him, Jason is a husband, father, and the lead pastor at Fellowship Bible Church in Roswell, GA. We can’t think of a better conversation to wrap up not only this series, but also this year! On a personal level, this has been such a helpful series for each member of our team. We pray the Lord has used it in your life as well. Thank you for humbly considering the blind spots you’re maintaining. We pray you take time to bring those before the Lord and before friends in your local church context to simply ask for their help. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS Do you ever tend to seek to merit God’s salvation outside of the work of Christ? What are some legalistic tendencies or trends you have noticed in yourself? What is the good news of the gospel of God’s grace, and how does it speak to the struggle of legalism? How might you take a step today to walk in obedience to the Lord while still confidently resting in salvation by grace through faith alone? What might you do or implement based on what you learned in this week’s episode? Blind Spots 03: Finances with Jen Wilkin and Elizabeth Woodson

In this week’s episode, we are digging into the topic of finances! Money can often be a blind spot for many of us, myself included, so we are excited to learn how we can steward well what God has entrusted us with. We are particularly excited to share this episode with you because it is actually a LIVE recording of a conversation I got to have with Jen Wilkin and Elizabeth Woodson at The Gospel Coalition Women’s conference back in June!We pray this conversation compels you to take an honest look at your finances to see how you can best steward what the Lord has entrusted you with. Our hope is that in doing so, you would come to rely more deeply on the Lord as your Provider!DISCUSSION QUESTIONS How would you describe your relationship with money? Do you have any examples you can look to of people who have epitomized what it looks like to steward money well? How does the gospel drive you to give generously and to live differently in regard to the way you steward your money? How have you seen God richly provide for you in a season where you have been experiencing lack? What might you do or implement based on what you learned in this week’s episode?  FOR MORESubscribe: iTunes | AndroidFollow Us: Instagram | FacebookSupport the podcast by writing a review Interviews do not imply Journeywomen’s endorsement of all writings and positions of the interviewee or any other resources mentioned.  Affiliate links used are used where appropriate. Blind Spots 02: Self-Sufficiency with Christine Gordon and Hope Blanton

Today we’re continuing our current series, Blind Spots, by talking about a particularly sneaky one—self-sufficiency. For many of us the desire to “do it ourselves” and be independent can be incredibly strong, but today our friends Hope Blanton and Christine Gordon of At His Feet Studies are going to help us understand the beauty of dependence. We pray this conversation encourages you to lift your eyes from yourself, to release your grip on all the things you strive to do, and to look instead to Christ, whose grace is enough to sufficiently meet your every need. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS What does the pull of self-sufficiency look like in your life?  What are we essentially saying when we decide to rely on ourselves instead of fully relying on God? How might you come alongside someone else in their limits or encourage someone else to embrace their God-given limits for the glory of God? What might it look like for you to rely on the Lord while you tackle your to-do list today? What might you do or implement based on what you learned in this week’s episode?  FOR MORESubscribe: iTunes | AndroidFollow Us: Instagram | FacebookSupport the podcast by writing a review Interviews do not imply Journeywomen’s endorsement of all writings and positions of the interviewee or any other resources mentioned.  Affiliate links used are used where appropriate. Blind Spots 01: Unforgiveness with Vaneetha Risner

Today we’re starting a brand new series called “Blind Spots.” Here’s the thing about blind spots: they are, by definition, difficult for us to see—we’re blind to them! No matter how much we want to consider our blind spots, we really can’t do it alone. Our aim with this series is to gain the insight of those who are able to see so that they can come alongside us and help us identify and humbly repent of the sins we might be blindly entertaining. In today’s episode, we’re talking about the blind spot of unforgiveness with my friend Vaneetha Risner. Vaneetha’s story is an incredible testament to the power of looking to the grace of God to enable us to forgive unimaginably difficult offenses. We pray this conversation encourages you to lean on the Lord for the strength to forgive, even when it’s difficult. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS What has it looked like for you to bear the burden of unforgiveness in your life? What happens in us when we refuse to forgive? What does God do in us when we do forgive? How, specifically, does the gospel compel you to forgive?  How might you lean into God’s help as you seek to forgive others? What might you do or implement based on what you learned in this week’s episode?
