On today’s episode of the Journeywomen podcast, I’m chatting with Tony Reinke on the topic of smartphone use. I know it’s tempting to dodge this episode given the topic, but I want to encourage you to listen, as it’s such an important conversation for us as believers. Loving Our Dads Well with Jerrad Lopes
On today’s episode of the Journeywomen podcast, I chatted with Jerrad Lopes, the host of the Dad Tired podcast, about loving the dads in our lives well. I wanted to do this episode in honor of Father’s Day, which is this Sunday if you aren’t tracking! I know many of us have mixed emotions about a day like Father’s Day. While some of us had incredible fathers, others of us didn’t, while still others didn’t even have an opportunity to know their father. Whatever feelings we maintain toward a holiday like this, they can all be overcome by delighting in this reality: we don’t need a perfect earthly father, because we have a perfect heavenly father who adopted us through his son, Jesus. As his daughters, we are the children of a father who is worthy of all celebration! Jerrad did a great job of encouraging us to glorify God this Father’s Day by loving and honoring the men in our lives exactly where they are, no matter how great or poor their example. So you’ll know him a little better, Jerrad is a Christian pastor and the founder of Dad Tired, a non-profit ministry focused on equipping men to lead their family well. He hosts the weekly Dad Tired Podcast he also authored Stop Behaving: A Gospel-Centered Devotional for Men. If you don’t have a copy, it’d be a great gift for the fathers in your life and you can get it 2 day shipping on Amazon Prime! Jerrad and his wife Leila live in Portland, Oregon with their two children where they are also certified foster parents. Joy with Melissa Kruger
On today’s episode of the Journeywomen podcast I’m chatting with Melissa Kruger about JOY! We dove right in and talked a million miles a minute about Bible study, hardship, and most of all, the joy that we have in Jesus. She said, “The object of our joy is the substance of our happiness. We like to rejoice in all these things, and we can go to God and say, ‘Thank you for my family, thank you for the fact that we have a meal to eat tonight, thank you that we have a house,” but he is the ultimate substance of our joy. The more we focus on him, the more we will be joyful!” Melissa is definitely a kindred heart and you're going to love hearing from her! She serves as women’s ministry coordinator at Uptown Church (PCA) in Charlotte, North Carolina, and is the author of The Envy of Eve: Finding Contentment in a Covetous World (Christian Focus, 2012) and Walking with God in the Season of Motherhood (Waterbrook/Multnomah, 2015). Her husband, Mike, is the president of Reformed Theological Seminary, and they have three children. She writes at Wits End, hosted by The Gospel Coalition. Her newest book In All Things is a study on JOY that releases tomorrow, June 5, 2018, which just so happens to also be the ONE YEAR anniversary of the Journeywomen podcast! Ya’ll, I have no words to express my surprise that we’ve actually made it this far. It is literally only by God’s grace. We’re releasing a celebratory Ask Me Anything episode later this week, so be sure to subscribe to the podcast on whatever platform you’re using to listen so that you don’t miss it. Thanks so much for journeying alongside me for the past year. It’s truly been a joy. I cannot wait to share this conversation on that very topic with you all! Celebrating God's Creativity with Trillia Newbell
On today’s episode of the Journeywomen podcast, I chatted with Trillia Newbell about celebrating God's creativity! Trillia and I talked about everything from how we can practically celebrate people of all backgrounds, to how Jesus himself loved people who were different than him. She said, “When I think of Jesus I think of a man who died for sinners, who died for those who could never repay him, and who related to those who others would shun. His example is ours. It’s what we should aim to live like and live for.” Trillia encourages us to simply love our neighbors and to seek to know them through something as simple as inviting them to share a meal around our tables. Ultimately, we discussed God’s plan to glorify himself by rescuing a people from every tribe, tongue, and nation. I know you’ll have so many takeaways from this conversation. So you’ll know her a little better, Trillia Newbell is the author of the kids’ book God’s Very Good Idea, as well as Enjoy: Finding the Freedom to Delight Daily in God’s Good Gifts (2016), Fear and Faith: Finding the Peace Your Heart Craves (2015) and United: Captured by God’s Vision for Diversity (2014). Her writings on issues of faith, family, and diversity have been published in the Knoxville News-Sentinel, Desiring God, True Woman, Christianity Today, The Gospel Coalition, and more. She has spoken at numerous conferences, churches, women’s retreats, colleges and seminaries, including True Woman, The Gospel Coalition Women’s conference, Southeastern Theological Seminary, and more. She currently is the Director of Community Outreach for the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission for the Southern Baptist Convention. I can’t wait to share her with you guys. Community with Luke Banner
On today’s episode of the Journeywomen podcast, I chatted with my friend and pastor from right here in Clarksville, TN, Luke Banner. Luke serves as the assistant pastor in my local church. It was so fun chatting about how community really is the Church, or the body of Christ, with Christ as our head. As members of the Body who worship Christ as their Lord and Savior, we are the Church. We are the congregation of worshipping believers. Christian community isn’t merely the frequency of interaction with someone, having a shared passion, or interest. Rather, christian community is the Church. Luke and I discussed the nitty gritty aspects of what it really looks like to do life together with brothers and sisters who may actually be very different than us. We talked about the importance of authenticity and seeking to really know and be known by our community. This conversation is the beginning of a little series on the topic of Christian community. Be sure to subscribe to the podcast however you listen so that you won’t miss upcoming episodes on confession and conflict, praying together with other believers, individual and corporate worship, and celebrating God’s beautifully diverse design.
