Today on the show we’re talking to Kara Goldin, CEO and Founder of Hint Inc. a flavored water company, and author of Undaunted: Overcoming Doubts and Doubters. Kara takes us through her life story, starting with growing up in Arizona, creating opportunities to make money by making a camp with her friends and charging $5 a day for people to come and hang out. After leaving her position at AOL, Kara took some time off to focus on being a mother. During that time off Kara realized how much soda she was drinking, and wanted to make a healthy change in her diet. She quickly noticed how many unhealthy beverage options there were on the market today, and wanted to make a change. They talk about how important it is to start working on fixing those problems before they become too big of an issue.  Jayson talks about his speech problems, how he was not confident in the way he presented himself in meetings. He had to overcome that confidence issue and focus on why he was stumbling over his words. He also talks about his smoking habit and how he overcame that with specific tactics. Getting help from others is one of the best ways to run a company, and live your life. Learning from other people who have walked a different path than you can be incredibly beneficial for both of you. Today on the show we have David Meltzer, the CEO of Sports 1, a sports marketing firm which he co-founded with hall of fame quarterback, Warren Moon. David talks about how when he was a kid, the only problems he had were money problems, and that was something that he wanted to fix. David talks about how he went to law school and became a successful lawyer, but it wasn’t exactly what he wanted to be doing, so he quit and started selling “the internet” in 1992. He was on top of the world, creating business in Silicon Valley. Then in 2008 everything came crashing down. David surrounded himself with the wrong people and started losing sight of the values that got him to where he was. David now has a better understanding of what helped him become successful and stay successful, a mix between money and faith. Today on the show we’re talking to Monty Moran, CEO of Chipotle. Monty talks about how he started as a lawyer, quickly moved up the ranks in his law firm and became the CEO of his law firm because the partners saw he was a leader. He then had Chipotle as a client, and the CEO of Chipotle saw how well his firm was doing and wondered how Monty had created such a great culture, and brought him on as co-CEO of Chipotle. Monty talks about the 3 reasons why people aren’t happy in your company.There are low performers, which is rare, not knowing the standards of your workplace, and most importantly your employees are not feeling empowered. Empowerment can lead to some amazing results, if every one of your employees feels like they are furthering themselves as well as the company, you know you’ve built a successful culture. People are much more in common than they are different, Monty went out to show that people are connected in a lot of ways. Today on the show John LeBlanc is back and interviews Jayson about why you need to stop overthinking your problems, and start quickly making decisions, to solve them! Jayson talks about how he hates the phrase “what if” and how it means that you are looking backwards, when you should be trying to fix the problems that are at hand right now. It’s important to think of yourself last in business decisions, first think about how this will affect your brand and your team, then about how it will affect you. When making important decisions, Jayson thinks about how it will impact right now, tomorrow and 6 months from now. Thinking any further down the road than that will allow you to start overthinking the problem at hand. Follow the facts, make an informed decision, but ultimately following your gut will help you make quick decisions. Today on the show we’re talking to Brian Scudamore, the founder and CEO of O2E brands, the parent company of 1-800 Got Junk, Wow One Day Painting, and Shack Shine. He also wrote a book, WTF?! (Willing to Fail): How Failure Can Be Your Key to Success, talking about his story of how he came from small beginnings to owning several companies. As a kid Brian moved from school to school, having to make new friends, learn the environment, and adapt. Brian thinks that had a big impact on becoming an entrepreneur. He had to learn to overcome those obstacles, meet new people, and create new relationships. Brian talks about how he needed to make failures in order to get to where he is today, he mentions a time, early in 1-800-GOT-JUNK’s life that he had to fire 11 people at once because they weren’t good fits for his image of the company. He talks about how his father’s girlfriend abused and assaulted him and how he went to juvenile detention for fighting back. However, JT didn’t let his environment dictate how he should live his life. He squeezed as many good lessons as he could out of the people around him. JT talks about how he has removed the words: hope, wish, and luck from his vocabulary. Today Jayson talks about depression and how to deal with it. The fact is, it’s different for everyone, it manifests differently and everyone deals with it differently, but appreciating what’s around you, leaving the past in the past, and taking it one step at a time, WILL help you get past whatever you are dealing with. If you are breathing, if you’re alive today, you are batting 100% in terms of getting over your depression! If there are negative people in your life, get rid of them, if there is negativity on the TV, quit watching it. Cut what you can, it’s you versus the world, and the world isn’t going to play fair.
