Should you be allowed to invest in Russia?
I, Daniel, am leading the show today… and this episode is all about Russia. [0:30] JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs are catching the attention of politicians such as Elizabeth Warren over trading Russian bonds… I break down why—despite the bad perception for Wall Street—these banks aren’t breaking any sanctions. [2:35] But what about Main Street? Should individual investors have the option to invest in Russia? [7:25] Several of the world’s largest and most successful brands are cutting ties to Russia—including Coca-Cola, PayPal, PepsiCo, and McDonald’s, to name a few. I highlight one step McDonald’s is taking… that could create shareholder momentum. [12:15] If Russia’s invasion of Ukraine ends, and the sanctions were removed… would Russia become a buying opportunity? [21:10] Enjoyed this episode? The bull market in commodities is just getting started
We’re in a crisis unlike any other in recent memory. I break down the massive volatility amid the Russia-Ukraine war… and the Fed’s plans to raise interest rates. [0:30] Meanwhile, politics are helping send oil prices rocketing higher. Prepare for a rant... The situation goes to show how much—and how quickly—government policies can change the market landscape… as we’ve seen since Biden replaced Trump in office. [5:00] And there are several simple solutions to high oil prices the government is ignoring… [13:55] As politicians ramp up the economic sanctions on Russia, I name a few sectors that should see a lot of increased investment dollars. [22:40] And you definitely want exposure to commodities. I share some stats on why we’re still in the early stages of this bull market. [26:45] Enjoyed this episode? Kuppy: Oil and uranium could soar as high as…
Listener favorite Harris “Kuppy” Kupperman, chief investment officer at Praetorian Capital and author of Kuppy’s Event Driven Monitor (KEDM), is back on the show today. We kick it off with a discussion of the economic sanctions placed on Russia. Are they enough, and what about the risks to global businesses? Kuppy explains why the situation could lead to Lehman Brothers-scale bankruptcies outside of Russia. [2:30] One beneficiary of the market uncertainty is oil. Listen as Kuppy breaks down why today’s high prices are only the beginning… [7:40] Uranium continues to move higher as governments look to replace “dirty energy” like coal and oil. Kuppy shares what investors should pay attention to beyond the price of uranium… how he’s investing in the sector… and the most contrarian trade in today’s market. [16:00] Finally, Kuppy’s newsletter, KEDM, is a great idea generator. He gives us the background story on how it got started… and who his research helps. [26:50] Enjoyed this episode? What Biden could learn from Mike Tyson
President Biden delivered his first State of the Union address last night. Daniel shares what he thought Biden did well… while I focus on what upset me about the speech—and what politicians could learn from Mike Tyson. [0:45] Of course, much of the address centered on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Daniel and I discuss the economic sanctions against Russia… whether they’re working as planned… and how the war will impact energy prices. [9:53] Fed Chair Jerome Powell announced plans to raise interest rates by 0.25% later this month... saying he “hopes” inflation goes down. While I’m riled up about the flip-flopping Fed, Daniel says I shouldn’t be surprised. [14:25] Warren Buffett released his annual letter to Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A) shareholders over the weekend. Daniel explains why every investor should read these letters… and a couple of items that stood out to him from this year’s. And we discuss why Berkshire will benefit from inflation. [20:10] Next, we focus on Buffett's comments regarding share buybacks. I break down why you should pay attention to Buffett’s share repurchases… And Daniel highlights one company aggressively buying back its stock. [26:16] During its recent earnings report, semiconductor company Ambarella (AMBA) said the supply chain crisis is far from over. This will have a huge impact across sectors—and automakers in particular. [31:48] Speaking of autos, Ford (F) continues to spew bulls*** about its electric vehicles (EVs). I go on a small rant about the company’s tactics to distract from its problems… and why I’d consider shorting Ford right now. [33:13] Enjoyed this episode? Russia's actions are bullish for this sector…
I’ve spent a ton of time on the road lately for… gymnastics. My daughter’s competitions have given me a front-row seat on some impressive athletes… and some made-for-TV drama. [0:30] I share a few observations from my travels—including a bullish sign for Disney (DIS)... and how interest rate hike fears appear to be impacting the Florida housing market. [3:40] A big unknown right now is whether we’ll see any economic fallout from the Russia sanctions. I explain the war’s effects on two critical market factors: oil and inflation. [8:00] Another unknown is how aggressive the Fed will be in 2022… Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Wall Street thinks the Fed will only hike interest rates by 25 basis points (0.25%) this month—instead of the 0.50% increase it was previously expecting. I disagree… and explain why you should be ready for a 50-point rate hike. [12:05] I highlight some names that are doing great and a few that are struggling… my strategy for buying stocks in this volatile market… one “no-brainer” sector right now… and another I expect to keep surging due to Russian aggression. [20:10] Pivoting to digital assets… crypto is rallying hard this week. I break down why this asset class continues to attract money from around the globe. [28:10] The current market shows why hedging your portfolio is more important than ever. I share some of my preferred hedging strategies… and things to look for if you’re putting money into the market right now. [32:40] Enjoyed this episode? One biotech’s 80% single-day plunge: A case study for investors
Biotech Kodiak Sciences (KOD) plunged 80% in one day after a major drug trial setback. In today’s episode, we focus on why this company captivated Wall Street… and what investors can learn from the selloff. [1:45] I’ve been following Kodiak for a while… We once bought and sold it for a gain in . Even recently, the Baker Brothers—some of the best biotech investors—were buying heavily. [3:40] But this week… the Phase 3 study for its most exciting drug missed expectations. [7:50] The situation is a strong example of why investors must pay attention to expectations—both high and low… and be willing to adjust as facts change. [11:00] When expectations are leaning either bullish or bearish, consider the contrarian trade… It’s how you make the biggest gains as an investor. [26:00] Enjoyed this episode? The commodity trade is far from over
Daniel’s back in the office and I rib him about taking a sick day… the day before his birthday! [0:30] Markets continue to be volatile around the Russia-Ukraine conflict. We discuss Russia’s latest “peacekeeping missions”... and why Biden’s sanctions will actually help the Kremlin. [2:45] I point out the huge difference in public perception between Russia and China… and why the U.S. (wrongly) takes a different approach in its dealings with these two countries. [7:50] Hopefully the Russia-Ukraine situation is a short-term problem for markets… and once it resolves, it could be the perfect time to buy oil stocks and other commodity-related plays. [11:45] Speaking of commodities, coal is surging—and the price will remain elevated for the foreseeable future. While “coal” is a swear-word in most investing circles… investors in this commodity stand to make a ton of money. [14:00] Another swear-word in the investing world: Uranium. We share why we’re shocked prices aren’t much higher. [19:55] Turning to inflation… markets continue to anticipate multiple interest rate hikes this year. JPMorgan thinks we’ll see nine in a row. Daniel and I debate whether the Fed will be aggressive enough… and Daniel explains why rising oil prices will give the Fed some wiggle room. [24:15] Virgin Galactic, a popular SPAC, is making headlines following its earnings report. I break down why SPACs are terrible for individual investors—for the most part… And whether there’s any value to Trump’s SPAC, Digital World Acquisition Corp. (DWAC). [32:30] Enjoyed this episode? A major indicator suggests stocks are about to roar higher
I just came back from Baltimore, where I recorded a new special report I'm excited to share with you… how to make an absolute fortune from future government policies. [0:17] The Russia-Ukraine crisis is creating tons of market volatility and uncertainty—but this will be a short-term problem for investors. [4:00] I call out Europe for talking a big game against Russia… without any serious consequences. I also call out Germany and Great Britain for their weak actions in the conflict. [5:57] Why Russia has the most leverage of any country in the world right now… why it may not invade Ukraine after all… and why Ukraine isn’t as innocent of a country as it seems… [10:15] While Russia/Ukraine tensions have taken center stage… the bigger risk investors should be worrying about is the Fed and how it plans to control runaway inflation. Some believe this risk is already priced in based on a leading indicator… [14:10] I highlight companies/sectors you should continue to avoid… while explaining how to structure your portfolio to take advantage of the volatility. The greatest strategy most investors will never use
Genia Turanova, editor of and here at Curzio Research, joins me to discuss why higher inflation and rising interest rates will help separate certain companies from the rest of the market… and one sector with massive upside potential. [0:45] Moneyflow Trader was designed to help investors hedge against market risks and volatility. Since taking over the product two years ago, Genia has closed, on average, one triple-digit winner every 10 weeks! She walks us through her strategy… why options don’t have to be scary… and the difference between shorting stocks and hedging your portfolio. [6:20] But options don’t just help you protect against the downside… Genia explains how you also can use them to benefit from the upside. [16:20] Finally, she shares her favorite ideas today—both on the short and long side. [18:05] I wrap the show by explaining why Moneyflow Trader is one of my favorite products we offer—and why . This ‘obvious’ trade could generate 100% gains in 12 months
Sectors from autos to apparel to semiconductors are warning of the impact inflation could have if it’s not brought under control… and the Fed needs to move aggressively to fight it. Daniel and I discuss whether the market is pricing in inflation… and why we’re skeptical of the Fed doing the right thing. [0:45] Speaking of higher interest rates, I share my experience getting a construction loan for my new house… and the impact higher rates could have on the housing market. [8:40] Growth stocks continue to be extremely volatile as higher rates loom… And one of Daniel’s favorites has been unfairly hit over the past few months. Daniel explains why investors should be watching this remarkable growth story. [16:45] Crocs (CROX) announced it would be suspending share buybacks to focus on lowering its debt. I explain why I think this is a smart move… and whether Crocs is a buy at current levels. [22:10] Plus, we discuss the impact of easing mask requirements… and the best opportunity for 100% gains over the next year as we continue to adjust to the new normal. [25:40] Enjoyed this episode?
