Can Christians and Atheists Get Along? DTH Episode 190 guest host Julian Adorney and Angel Eduardo

Send Wilk a text with your feedback! Can Christians and Atheists Get Along?Christians and Atheists often face roadblocks in understanding and accepting each other due to deeply ingrained differences in belief systems. One major obstacle is the perception of morality and purpose. Christians may view their faith as the ultimate source of moral guidance and purpose, while Atheists often derive their morality from secular humanism and find purpose in life without relying on religious frameworks. This is among many fundamental differences that can lead to misunderstandings and a lack of empathy, as each group may struggle to comprehend the basis for the other's ethical principles. So, can Christians and atheists get along? To foster better understanding and recognize the shared humanity between Christians and Atheists, it is essential to engage in open and respectful dialogue. Both parties can benefit from actively listening to each other's perspectives without judgment, seeking common ground in shared values such as compassion, kindness, and the pursuit of a just society. Emphasizing the shared human experience, focusing on similarities rather than differences, and acknowledging the diversity within both belief systems can help bridge the gap and foster a more inclusive and tolerant environment where individuals from different backgrounds can coexist harmoniously. Listen as guest host Julian Adorney and our mutual friend Angel Eduardo model such a conversation. What some may refer to as a difficult conversation, done with fearless curiosity, the way it should be done.Guest Host Julian Adorney and Angel Eduardo Julian Adorney is an author and speaker focused on preserving and rebuilding the West against the threats of illiberalism and affective polarization. He's written for Quillette, Queer Majority, National Review, the Foundation Against Intolerance and Racism (FAIR) and a few other sites; and is on the Braver Angels media team. He's the founder of Heal the West, a substack movement.  Angel Eduardo is a writer, musician, photographer, and designer based in New York City, best-known for coining and promoting the rhetorical concept of star-manning. Getting Below The Surface of Toxic Polarization... DTH Episode 189 with guest host Julian Adorney & Mark Johnson

Send Wilk a text with your feedback!Getting Below The Surface of Toxic PolarizationHuman evolution in perspectives is a dynamic process shaped by experiences, education, and self-reflection. Individuals often display a tendency to forgive themselves swiftly for past views and mistakes, while adopting a less forgiving stance towards others. This discrepancy in standards suggests a complex interplay of ego, empathy, and self-awareness. It underscores the challenge of extending the same compassion to others that one grants oneself. Responsibility for emotions and life experiences lies with individuals, highlighting the power of personal choices in shaping one's reactions to circumstances. Viktor Frankl's "Man's Search for Meaning" serves as a compelling example of how one can choose their response in the face of adversity and even horrific circumstance, emphasizing the profound impact of mindset on the human experience. The advice to avoid defining one's identity by fleeting thoughts underscores the importance of self-awareness and the recognition that personal growth involves transcending temporary perspectives.Despite this potential for growth, individuals remain deeply influenced by their un-evolved brains, acknowledging the ongoing impact of instinctual and ingrained behaviors. The journey toward understanding and empathy requires a continual commitment to self-reflection, challenging ingrained biases, and embracing the capacity for personal evolution. Listen as my good friend and fellow Braver Angel Julian Adorney guest hosts, discussing these topics and more with Mark Johnson, getting below the surface of toxic polarization.Who is Mark Johnson? Mark is a men’s coach, business and relationship coach, facilitator, and wilderness guide with more than 20 years of experience helping people and companies grow. He has been part of The Undaunted Man since 2014, and its CFO since 2016. What have you done today to make your life a better life? What have you done today to make the world a better place? Send Wilk a text with your feedback!DEI vs. Diversity of ThoughtI recently read an article in the Free Black Thought substack written by my friend Dr. Tabia Lee entitled: DEI COLLEAGUES: YOUR ANTI-SEMITISM IS SHOWING. With recent events being what they are in the middle east, and the ensuing hate mongering that is taking place world-wide, the article stood out instantly.  You might remember Dr. Tabia Lee from our DTH conversation back in March of this year soon after she was stripped of her position as Faculty Director for the office of Equity, Social-Justice, and Multicultural Education at De Anza College, a California community college. I'll be looking to have Dr. Lee back on the podcast in early 2024, but for now, please enjoy this replay of our conversation back in March of 2023, and check out this article in Free Black Thought.Who is Dr. Tabia Lee? Thanksgiving, a Time For Gratitude... Replay of DTH Classic Episode 53

Send Wilk a text with your feedback!Thanksgiving, a Time For GratitudeThanksgiving serves as a poignant reminder that gratitude should not be confined to a single day but embraced every day. Speaking with The Younger You... DTH Episode 186 with Jeff Schoep and Henry Paniccia

Send Wilk a text with your feedback!Speaking with The Younger YouHave you ever imagined engaging in a conversation with your younger, more naive, and possibly even a more hateful self? Imagine finding yourself grappling with the echoes of your past ignorance. The earlier version of you, fueled by limited experiences and misguided perspectives, expressing opinions that now seem cringe-worthy and uninformed. In an attempt to bridge the gap between your present self and that version, you realize the importance of growth and understanding. It becomes evident that the journey towards empathy and open-mindedness has transformed you, enabling you to challenge your past beliefs and recognize the flaws in your earlier thinking. Imagine such a conversation serving as a reminder of the transformative power of time and experience, highlighting the significance of evolving perspectives to foster a more compassionate and enlightened you. Imagine what it would be like speaking with the younger you.Be sure to tune in for this incredible conversation guest hosted by my friend Jeff Schoep of BeyondBarriersUSA.org, as he speaks with another former NSM member, Henry Paniccia, who is now challenging white supremacy ideology in a new and unique way.Who is Henry Paniccia? Henry Paniccia was involved in the world of white supremacy from 14 years old until he turned his back on that lifestyle and those beliefs at 21. Over the years, he was able to re-educate himself, deradicalize, and integrate into society as productive member. Two years ago he came up with the idea 'Conversations', his five-part video series where he goes through his former beliefs in explicit detail. While the content is undeniably alarming and comes with a heavy trigger warning, it is not without purpose and allows the viewer to take a deep look inside the life of a neo-Nazi. He sits on one end of the table as he is today (2023) and interviews his younger, 19-year-old self (2010). At times they speak a conversation of ideals. At times, a nostalgic trip down memory lane. And sometimes, an interrogation. ‘Conversations’ is not for the faint of heart but if you can stomach it, you’ll come out the other end with an incomparably better understanding of the issue at hand. Upon this, you’ll understand the allure ofThe world is a better place if we are better people. That begins with each of us as individuals. Be kind to one another. Be grateful for all you’ve got. If Your Life Sucks, It's Your Fault, Change It... DTH Episode 184 with Nico Lagan

Send Wilk a text with your feedback! If Your Life Sucks, It's Your Fault, Change ItMasculinity, in and of itself, is not toxic; it is a complex and multifaceted aspect of identity. However, men are undeniably influenced by the role models they look up to while growing up. If they choose toxic individuals as mentors, they may inadvertently follow a path of toxicity. The key to positive masculinity lies in fostering purpose and a sense of meaning in one's life. When men have a clear sense of purpose, they are more likely to make choices that align with their values and ideals, regardless of societal expectations. Ultimately, we have the agency to shape our destiny and the life we want to live by selecting mentors and role models who embody the virtues and values we wish to emulate. Join Wilk and Nico Lagan in their discussion that starts with "toxic masculinity" but goes into so much more. You may just come away realizing, "if your life sucks, it's your fault, change it." Who is Nico Lagan?Nico Lagan is a Social Media Strategist, Men's Coach, Author & Podcaster who engages  thought-provoking discussions on masculinity, conservative news, common sense insights, politics, humor, stoicism, Gnosticism, Christianity. He is not your typical internet influencer. Nonviolence and a Needed Revival of Humanity and Moral Clarity... DTH Episode 183 with Harry Boyte and Marie Ström

Send Wilk a text with your feedback!Nonviolence and a Needed Revival of Humanity and Moral Clarity Learning not to hate those with whom we disagree is a profound lesson in cultivating empathy and understanding. Often, violence and hate stem from a sense of feeling devalued or misunderstood. Embracing the idea that everyone's perspective is shaped by unique experiences can foster compassion and bridge the gaps that divide us. In the Christian faith, there is a powerful call to love one's neighbor and even one's enemies. This ethos encourages believers to rise above animosity, recognizing the inherent dignity in each person. A genuine adherence to Christian principles can lead to a revival of humanity, emphasizing love, forgiveness, and moral clarity. By embodying these values, individuals can contribute to a more harmonious and compassionate world, transcending the divisive forces of hatred and violence.  I'm joined in this episode by my fellow Braver Angels Harry Boyte and Marie Ström to discuss nonviolence and a needed revival of humanity and moral clarity.Who are  Harry Boyte and Marie Ström?Harry C. Boyte is a co-founder of the Institute for Public Life and Work and Senior Scholar of Public Work Philosophy at the Institute and also at Augsburg University in Minneapolis, MN.  He founded and for 20 years directed and co-directed the Center for Democracy and Citizenship (CDC) at the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs. As a young man he worked in the citizenship schools sponsored by SCLC, Martin Luther King’s organization.Marie-Louise Ström is a co-founder of the Institute for Public Life and Work. Originally from South Africa, for 20 years she managed democracy education work at the Institute for Democracy in South Africa (Idasa), the major independent democracy building organization in Africa. In 2001, as an international fellow at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota, Ström became acquainted with the Public Work approach of the Center for Democracy and Citizenship. She adopted this approach in citizen leadership training programs across the continent of Africa, working with professionals from diverse backgrounds as well as grassroots leaders.Learn more about and connect with Harry & Marie online:website: The world is a better place if we are better people. Barbarism Fueled By An Ideology of Hatred... Bonus Episode on the Terror Attacks in Israel with Moshe K. Levy

Send Wilk a text with your feedback!Barbarism Fueled By An Ideology of HatredWhat drives someone to commit the most evil acts imaginable by another human being? People are not born inherently evil, just like they are not born inherently good. Both are learned behaviors.  Why then are some taught to hate others, to a point at which they would commit the unspeakable acts that have shocked the world in recent days,  as the Jewish State of Israel was so brutally attacked by Hamas terrorists? For this bonus conversation, I've invited back my friend Moshe K.
