Sunday Morning Comin Round... (Pilot Episode)... Squaring Enhanced Gun Safety Measures with Personal Gun Ownership and the 2nd Amendment

Send Wilk a text with your feedback!“If there is any one secret to success, it lies in the ability to get the other person’s point of view and see things from that person’s angle as well as from your own.” ~Henry FordIn several of the conversations I’ve had the opportunity to have on the Derate the Hate podcast, many of my guests have either alluded to or outright expressed that one of the greatest problems we face in today’s toxic interactional climate is people’s inability to understand, or unwillingness to understand, not only the opposing side’s point of view, but also to see the humanity in the person or persons expressing said point of view.Sunday Morning Comin Round is meant to be a round table with a bit of a twist. Admittedly, this is an experiment, and my first time for attempting something like this. I can tell (as I’m sure will be evident), there is a learning curve. With that said, this is NOT A DEBATE, but rather an exercise in understanding each other, and reaching a point of mutual clarity through civility rather than agreement. Our topic for this very important conversation is: “Squaring enhanced gun safety measures with personal gun ownership and the 2nd Amendment” The world is a better place if we are better people. That begins with each of us as individuals. Be kind to one another. Be grateful for all you’ve got. Make every day the day that you want it to be! Send Wilk a text with your feedback!Fans of the Derate the Hate podcast know that I love stories of those who triumph over adversity, and those who persevere through the toughest times in life to come out on the other side and start their own journey towards bettering the world. Being able to forgive is not something that comes easily to everyone, and to some people, it comes as a total surprise when it happens, but it's forgiveness that often times provides us with a path forward. This week's guest, Chris Singleton, is a former minor league baseball player drafted by the Chicago Cubs. He became a nationally-renowned speaker with a message of resilience, forgiveness and unity following the loss of his mother in the 2015 Mother Emanuel Church mass shooting in Charleston, SC. Episode 85: Flying the Unfriendly Skies... What's up with this Hateful Trend?

Send Wilk a text with your feedback!I recently read an article that peaked my interest because it said something to the effect of "Flight Attendants' jobs have never been more dangerous". Obviously there had to be something here that involved hate, and I wanted to know why. Why is it that people have suddenly taken to hating flight attendants? The article, which I will not promote, looked at first to be a decent article spelling out how since the pandemic began, instances of unruly and sometimes violent passengers are causing problems for flight crews on flights across the board. This article quickly descended into nonsense by claiming that some 61% of violent incidences on flights involved some form of racial, homophobic or gender involving slur and then it got worse...It sickens and saddens me when people try to interject race and racism to promote an agenda, when the reality is, very few incidences of violence or unruly airline passengers have anything to do with racism, homophobia, etc... Check out this very important episode to find out where the real problem exists and what's causing people to lose their minds in our not so friendly skies...What have you done today to make your life a better life? What have you done today to make the world a better place? The world is a better place if we are better people, and that begins with each of us leading a better life. Episode 84: Thanksgiving and the Age of Perpetual Outrage

Send Wilk a text with your feedback! It seems you cannot open an internet browser, browse social media, turn on a television or listen to the radio without finding out some group of "offended" or "aggrieved" people are again protesting something. Are all these people victims of something, or what I've referred to as those with the Perpetual Victim Mentality, or are their lives just so empty of meaning that they are looking to be part of something bigger? With this being the week of Thanksgiving, I have to wonder if all these "perpetually outraged" protesters and demonstrators would be as empty and angry as they are if they were grateful for all the blessings within their lives? Would they be so drawn to the lies, divisiveness, hyperbole and Hate of those in the media and politics, if in fact they focused on giving thanks for what they have rather than seeking some sense of purpose and meaning within the scores of perpetual outrage mobs?Happy Thanksgiving to all the Friends of the DTH Podcast. May you be thankful for all your blessings and openly share your gratitude today and every day. THANK YOU!!What have you done today to make your life a better life? Episode 83: Silver Linings and How They Can Be Found

Send Wilk a text with your feedback! No situation in life has ever been made better by those who constantly beat the drum of negativity and/or victimhood. As someone who spent a large portion of my life with a bad attitude, I can definitively say that statement because I know it to be true. Gratitude is something I speak of often in this podcast, and in my personal and professional life, because I truly believe that you cannot be happy if you are not grateful, and the happy make the world a better place. As such, the unhappy and ungrateful make the world worse, it's just the nature of things. How a situation plays out, for better or for worse, often comes as a result of how we react to it. This is why I also often speak of personal accountability. Life tends to be messy, and there are negative things that happen within our lives every day, that if focused upon, can result in more negativity. Those who don't constantly focus on the negative, are often those who produce more positive results because their minds generally work in a positive results driven mode rather than the negative. I talk about a simple, and personal example, of how this works and how one can find the silver lining in what seems to be a dark cloud. What have you done today to make your life a better life? What have you done today to make the world a better place? The world is a better place if we are better people, and that begins with each of us leading a better life. Episode 82: From Widow to Warrior, Adversity to Awesomeness... with Barbara Allen

Send Wilk a text with your feedback!Friends, I have talked about it time and time again on the DTH podcast, the victim mentality just produces more victimhood. This week's guest knows all to well what it's like to be a victim, be stuck in the warm waters of victimhood, and the results that brings. She is also one that knows how to pull herself out of that pool and become a warrior, and inspiration to others that no longer wish to  be a victim. Her story is truly one of adversity to awesomeness...Barbara Allen is someone who has more than a few reasons she could play the perpetual victim card, could be bitter at her country, and could wallow in the depths of pity, but that is not the path she has chosen. Instead, after periods of being both actively, and passively suicidal, and most certainly self-destructive after the murder of her husband by another soldier while deployed in Iraq, Barbara one day had enough of being "the victim". This is such a powerful and inspiring conversation with a true patriot that is doing incredible things to better the lives of others and the country she loves. DO NOT MISS THIS EPISODE!!Quotes from Barbara Allen in this DTH episode:"If you have the victim mentality, you'll continue to be victimized""What the hell has happened to this country? ... I didn't come through everything I've been through, my husband didn't give his life, my friends husbands and wives didn't give up their lives to let those who hate the country tear it down from the inside"Details for "The Great American Summit"Barbara Allen is an award winning authorWhat have you done today to make your life a better life? Episode 81: Road Rage... Hate on the Go!

Send Wilk a text with your feedback! You're cruising down the highway, passing those in the right lane who obviously don't have anywhere to go that is quite as important as your time or where you're headed, and it happens...  Everything was going just as you had hoped and then you come upon that person in the left lane that is creeping along at the speed limit. At first you think, "they'll see me if I just get a bit closer", then a minute or two passes, your face starts to get a little hot, then someone passes you on the right, you've got no room to get over, you swear under your breath, things in my car are escalating and I'm the only one here, what's wrong with them, AAAHHHH!!!I've been in the transportation industry for 22 years. Many of those years I've spent living on the road as a driver, and the last several managing multiple drivers. If I haven't seen it, I've heard about it, and a lot of times, the IT is not good. In recent years, the nonsense we see on the roads as drivers, whether professional or not, has been getting worse. These several months since the pandemic began have compounded the problem with higher tensions, increased drug & alcohol use, and people losing their minds in general. In this episode I share some recent experiences that have happened as I've filled in on routes in the big rig. I talk about personal accountability, some statistics, and tips to keep yourself and your loved ones safer on the road. Make sure to thank a trucker today, for they are the ones that keep food on the table and goods of all kinds moving across our great nation. What have you done today to make your life a better life? Episode 80: It Must Be Nice... Envy is an Ugly Emotion

Send Wilk a text with your feedback! Are  you someone who has worked hard and has some nice things? Are you proud to have those things? Have you ever been confronted by someone who says, "it must be nice" as if you somehow don't deserve, or didn't earn those things? Envy is an Ugly Emotion... an emotion that leads to resentment, anger and hate.In this week's solo episode I talk about a conversation I had recently had with someone that was confronted with this very scenario. It should come as no surprise, but still does, that there are those who would confront someone who has nice things and say, "it must be nice", when there are those in politics and the media that drive and perpetuate class envy as they do. We must resist those who constantly attempt to divide us by class through the perpetuation of envy and disdain for those who have more than we do. What have you done today to make your life a better life? Episode 79: False Narratives Have Bad Consequences... Rebuilding Community Trust with Chris Sherwin of the 3 Cops Talk Podcast

Send Wilk a text with your feedback! In the United States, there are in excess of three quarters of a million law enforcement personnel working to keep our citizens safe from the evil forces that would do us harm. The "Thin Blue Line" as it is often called, is the only thing standing between peace and chaos. Some would have you believe that the system is broken, racist, and even needs to be abolished and rebuilt in a completely different image than what we currently have. Those people are driven by ignorance, hate &/or political agendas that stand in contrast to logic and sensibility. This week's guest, Chris Sherwin, is an active duty police officer of more than 20 years, serving the public in one of Chicago's suburbs. He and 2 other active duty policeman have a podcast, 3 Cops Talk, where they face tough subjects including police brutality, racial tension and so much more. After all the misinformation spread by the media and politicians alike surrounding the incident in Minneapolis with George Floyd, Ferguson and other incidents where police encounters ended in tragedy, Chris and his co-hosts Scott & Shaun knew it was time to do something. Chris brings so much value to this week's episode of the Derate The Hate podcast, and the trio of active duty coppers do the same each week on their podcast.
