Episode 114: Is Hate Being Taught To Our Children? Group Conversation on the book "STAMPED" by Ibram X. Kendi & Jason Reynolds

Send Wilk a text with your feedback! Is hate being taught to our children in the public, and some private schools? A couple months ago my cousin brought to my attention a book that his 8th grade daughter had been assigned for a book review in her NW Iowa school. I was familiar with some of the toxicity that Ibram X. Kendi had been spreading, but I was not aware that his material was being used in our public school system, much less that it was being taught to 8th graders, and even younger. "Stamped" Racism, Antiracism and YouThis was not a book I had read, and I admittedly did not want to spend the money on it, but I didn't feel it would be right if I discussed it on my show without doing so. In the beginning, authors Ibram X Kendi and Jason Reynolds define in their terms, segregationists, assimilationists, and antiracists. For the remainder of the book, they use their version of revisionist history to attribute every perceived disparity and/or racial inequity since the beginning of time to "white privilege", segregationist whites, weak black assimilationists, or just the evils of white racism. To discuss this book, that again was assigned to my cousin's 8th grade daughter in a public school in NW Iowa, I invited to the conversation Yael Levin of No Left Turn in Education, Tony Kinnett of The Chalkboard Review, Moshe Levy (volunteer with FAIR) and author of a recently published article on "Stamped for Kids" on FAIR's Substack, and my cousin Chad.Nobody's life has ever been made better by convincing them they are a victim, and books such as "STAMPED" is nothing more than propaganda that is used to create a perpetual victim class in the name of diversity, equity and inclusion. This type of material, when used as learning material for young impressionable minds, drives a solid wedge of division and confusion into a space that sThe world is a better place if we are better people. Episode 113: Be Engaged, Not Enraged... Conversation on Braver Politics with Rick and Barbara

Send Wilk a text with your feedback!I started this podcast a couple years ago with the slogan, "Bettering the World, One Attitude at a Time"... That is more than just a mission statement for me, that has become one of my central purposes in life. Why you might ask? In many ways, it's because I see our world, but more specifically our country, has in certain ways become broken. What can we do if our country 's political system is broken? In addition to doing the Derate the Hate podcast, I have become quite involved with the organization Braver Angels. Braver Angels has become one of the country's leading organizations working to depolarize  and mend our social fabric. As I began to hear more about the latest initiative that Braver Angels was working on, Braver Politics, I wanted to know more. I thought who better to reach out to than my friends Rick and Barbara! How can I engage without being enraged?Would you like to become more involved in the political discussion, without becoming part of and enraged shouting match that accomplishes nothing? Take a listen to my conversation with my friends Rick Hotchner and Barbara Thomas, (who you may remember from Episode 48) where we are discussing Braver Politics... Let me know what you think! What have you done today to make your life a better life? What have you done today to make the world a better place? The world is a better place if we are better people, and that begins with each of us leading a better life. Episode 112: The Role of Emotions in the Gun Control Debate... Facts Over Hate

Send Wilk a text with your feedback!I have said it time and time again on this podcast, and many of my guests have referenced the notion, that a common factor that leads to much anger and hate, is ignorance.  It should come as no surprise then, and cannot be overstated, how much effort is put in by opportunist politicians and media outlets in driving the Hate agenda by keeping people ignorant to the truth, instead of presenting actual Facts, about civilian gun ownership in this country. There are few things that will rile the emotions of most people like the death of a child, and rightfully so. With that said, the media and opportunist politicians know this, and have made it their M.O.  to pounce, using these relatively rare and isolated nightmarish tragedies to drive their political and social agendas, without ever presenting real facts, or putting the numbers in to context, or looking at the much larger underlying issues that go to the nucleus of the problem. They simply rely upon ignorance and emotions, 2 of the leading causes of Hate, to steer their narrative. They do it because it is effective. Please join me for this incredibly important episode, where I lay out some very important facts about guns, gun ownership, and so-called "gun-violence" in the United States today and trends in recent years. Please share this important episode with your network, especially those who out of pure ignorance and emotions lose sight of reality when it comes to the gun debate. If you feel something I've said is incorrect, feel free to reach out to me.References for topics discussed in this episode:https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/accidental-injury.htmhttps://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/homicide.htmhttps://bjs.ojp.gov/content/pub/pdf/tpfv9318_sum.pdfhttps://www.heritage.org/crime-and-justice/commentary/here-are-8-stubborn-facts-gun-violence-americahttps://www.americanrifleman.org/articles/2015/5/26/the-ar-for-home-defense-one-experts-opinion https://slate.com/technology/2013/06/handguns-suicides-mass-shootings-deaths-and-self-defense-findings-from-a-research-report-on-gun-violence.htmlhttps://www.nationalreview.com/corner/careful-panic-violent-crime-and-gun-crime-are-both-dropping-charles-c-w-cooke/https://www.npr.org/2022/05/31/1102097583/a-uvalde-coroner-is-hauThe world is a better place if we are better people. New Benefit Ride...REPLAY: Project Delta, Providing Service Dogs to Veterans in Need… with Patti Robinson

Send Wilk a text with your feedback!Well my friends, it has finally happened, I have the Covid-19... It's bound to catch us all at some point and this is my week. I'm beyond the worst of it, but not feeling up to doing a whole show, so I thought I'd take this opportunity to run a replay of one of my great guest interviews. In light of the fact that there is another benefit ride coming up for this great organization, I've decided to run a replay of episode 65 where I spoke with Patti Robinson about Project-Delta.Where do veterans’ service dogs come from? Have you ever wondered about those service dogs that work with our country’s veterans? Are you someone with a passion for animals, and specifically a passion for rescue animals? I recently had an opportunity to sit down with Patti Robinson of Project Delta, a non-profit organization that teams rescue dogs with veterans suffering from things such as PTSD, traumatic brain injuries and MST.  Project Delta is a team of like-minded people from around the country that share a passion for supporting two of the most deserving groups, veterans & forgotten or abandoned dogs.Project ā€œDeltaā€(Dogs Enriching Lives Throughout America) is the result of the unrelenting ache in the heart of founder Patti Robinson and you can read more about them by clicking here…Follow Project Delta on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/projectdeltamnLet them know Wilk sent you!Find out more about the upcoming benefit ride on June 18, 2022 below:https://fb.me/e/1QBDPy1U6Hope to see you there! What have you done today to make your life a better life? Episode 110: Discussing Tho Overturning of Roe vs. Wade with Kevin McGary of Every Black Life Matters

Send Wilk a text with your feedback! With the news in recent  leak coming out of the Supreme Court that the landmark case of Roe vs. Wade will be overturned in the very near future, I thought it only made sense to reach out to my friend Kevin McGary of Every Black Life Matters. You may remember Kevin from our conversation back in Episode 88 of the podcast when he made his first DTH appearance. One of the core principles of the Every Black Life Matters organization is fighting for Real Justice for all human life, from womb to tomb. Our conversation includes misconceptions of what the overturning of Roe Vs. Wade actually means,  the misguided hostility on the part of some because of what they think it will lead to, and so much more.  (including a very defined distinction between Black Lives Matter and Every Black Life Matters)Do Black Lives Matter? Of course they do!! Episode 109: Love Will Always Triumph Over Hate... includes replay of conversation with Chris Singleton

Send Wilk a text with your feedback! My heart is heavy in the wake of another senseless evil act carried out this week by someone who allowed hate to overtake them. The world in which we live is a dark place, and it is up to each and every one of us as individuals whether we want to be a light in that darkness, or be a contributor to the darkness. Human beings, by their very nature, are broken. We are imperfect in so many ways, but we still have the ability to be a light to combat the darkness. IT IS A CHOICE!Nothing good comes of hate, and you cannot battle hate with more hate. It has never and will never work. For a very long time I struggled greatly with the question, "Why do bad things happen to good people?", and at times I still do. There are many injustices in this earthly world in which we live, both real and perceived, depending on your mindset, and often times people allow those injustices to breed much hatred. Hatred will never be the way forward, it will never lead to a positive outcome, so we must ensure that Love Will Always Triumph Over Hate. This week I  talk briefly about the heinous and evil act that took place at the Tops Grocery in Buffalo, NY., how that lead to my thinking of my conversation with Chris Singleton back in episode 86. I also talk about Eschatology, a topic our Pastor discussed in a recent sermon. I have decided to include in this episode the conversation portion of episode 86 with my friend and incredible inspiration in terms of love and inspiration, Chris Singleton. Episode 108: Does Free Speech Mean More Hate Speech?... with Dan Garscia of FAIR Twin Cities

Send Wilk a text with your feedback! In this week’s episode, I am joined again by my friend Dan Garscia of FAIR Twin Cities. We’re shaking things up a little this week and doing things a bit different. Some current events have been on my mind as they are quite divisive, bringing out the hate in a lot of folks, so I’ve asked my friend Dan to join me for a conversation on those topics. Our conversation starts with a discussion on Free Speech and Elon Musk’s pending purchase of Twitter. The mere thought of an individual proposing a ā€œfree speechā€ environment, purchasing the social media platform has many (of a certain mindset) apoplectic…A whole lot of hate has been on display over the past week regarding the leaked Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade… There are an awful lot of misconceptions and ignorance floating around the internet ecosystem on this topic, and as the DTH listeners know, ignorance tends to lead to a whole bunch of HATE…The perpetual victim mentality was on full display again this past week here in the state in which I live, Minnesota, when the mother of Daunte Wright decided to confront police with some attitude after seeing a high-risk arrest taking place along a Minnesota highway. This is not helpful and just leads to enhanced problems and hate…So grateful to have been joined again by my friend Dan Garscia of FAIR Twin Cities for this conversation. If you’re in the Minneapolis/St Paul area and you want to learn more about the great work FAIR (Foundation Against Intolerance and Racism) is doing, FAIR Twin Citie's quarterly event may be of interest…  https://www.eventbrite.com/e/fair-quarterly-meeting-tickets-329699258357Jacob Mchangama ( @JMchangama ). Episode 107: Don't Be Mad That It's Over, Be Grateful That It Happened

Send Wilk a text with your feedback!I'm sure you've heard the phrase, and it may sound cliche, "Don't be mad that it's over, be glad that it happened." Now, quite often this is said in regards to a relationship that has ended,  but this is not one of those times...This week I was devastated by some revelations having to do with my deer camp. Those who've listened to the podcast with any regularity for any amount of time know that my deer camp was very much my happy place and deer hunting is something I most look forward to each and every year. Check out this episode to find out more about what happened. I also dive more into mindset, gratitude and some numbers associated with a study about the number of thoughts a person has on average each day, how many of them are negative and how much of that negative thinking is just recycled negativity from the day before. This is quite important because only we as individuals have the power to change this for ourselves...What have you done today to make your life a better life? Episode 106: Awakening Your Infinite Potential With The Right Mindset... with Heather Hakes

Send Wilk a text with your feedback! Are we able to manifest the life we truly desire by having the right mindset? For some, this may be hard to believe, yet there are others that are sure of it, because they are living it. I say it in every episode, "Make each and every day the day that you want it to be". This is, in fact, what I am saying with that statement. It is up to us, as individuals, to manifest the day that we want to have by having the right attitude and believing it is possible. My guest this week is living her best life, because through the right mindset, she was able to manifest the life she knew was possible.Heather Hakes is a Mindset Coach, speaker, and author of Take the Leap. Around the age of 15, Heather became fascinated with psychology and human potential and has been into personal development ever since. She considers herself a bit of a rebel not wanting to follow the crowds. In 2017, Heather took a HUGE leap of faith and followed an intuitive nudge. She waved goodbye to the corporate world knowing there had to be a better reality. She just couldn’t fathom dreading Monday and cheering on Friday for the rest of her life.Heather now specializes in helping others get out of their own way by awakening their infinite potential to create their ideal life.
