The Difference Between a Present Father and an Engaged Father... DTH Episode 144 with Ken Gordon

Send Wilk a text with your feedback! What is the difference between a present father and an engaged father? It wasn't until I met this week's guest that I had ever really thought about that question. I've spoke on occasion about the statistics that clearly show the detrimental effects of not having a strong, influential male figure in the life of a child. It was not until I had this conversation with my new friend Ken Gordon though, that I really thought about how just being present, and truly being engaged in a child's life, differ so greatly. Do you know the difference between a present father and an engaged father?Who is Ken Gordon?REV. DR. KEN GORDON JR., or Pastor Ken, as he is called by his members, is a pastor, business executive, husband, father, and community leader, whose entire life has been dedicated to the service of others. The Dream Isn't That Far Away... includes MLK "I Have a Dream Speech"

Send Wilk a text with your feedback! The Dream Isn't That Far AwayThere are many among us, who for the pursuit of money, power or attention, ( and some out of pure hate), would have you believe that the institutional racism of the 1960s is still present in the United States today. Nothing could be further from the truth. Many of these people would have you believe this, because they know the best way to benefit themselves is to keep everyone else divided. Our founders spoke of freedom and all men being created equal. Our country has not always lived up to those ideals. On August 28, 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. gave his historic "I have a dream" speech as it came to be known. Some would say different, but I say, the dream isn't that far away."I have a dream"On August 28, 1963, Martin Luther King Jr., in front of thousands of cheering onlookers in Washington D.C., gave what would become one of the most historic speeches in the history of our great nation. Our country is not without it's stained past, but MLK knew then what the nation was capable of because of faith and the words of our founders. The dream of which Dr. King spoke, is only hindered by 2 things, ignorance and those who benefit from keeping us divided. In my opinion, the dream isn't that far away. If you have not listened to this historic speech in its entirety, please have a listen and share wherever possible. Happy MLK Day!!What have you done today to make your life a better life? Send Wilk a text with your feedback! How do we get to the why?Far too often, people enter a conversation, or worse yet, enter an argument with someone that they disagree, and never ask the most important question. Understanding the other person's why will always make for a better conversation or more effective argument, whether you end up agreeing or not. Accountability is Key in the Journey to "Unstuck" ...DTH Episode 140 with Marnye Moore

Send Wilk a text with your feedback!Accountability is Key in the Journey to "Unstuck"I know it may sound simplistic, but it is something I talk about often, I believe it, and I strive to live it every day. Friends, much of what we seek in life, and much of what we can do to make the world a better place begins with accountability. Sometimes, personal accountability is key in the journey to "unstuck".How accountability helps to Envision ResultsMy guest this week, Marnye Moore, was just an ordinary person living a completely mediocre life. Twenty-five years of administrative and executive work with nowhere to go. She stood behind others and made them shine and picked up all of the little pieces.  Others were accomplishing so much and and yet she felt stuck, unsure of how to begin. After spending some time sobbing at her desk and being told that she should be grateful for a life that was “good enough”. Marnye decided "good enough" was not good enough. Marnye realized it would take an inward look, personal accountability, and investments in herself to make her life better. It would take true personal accountability. What have you done today to make your life a better life? What have you done today to make the world a better place? What Makes Up Your Web of Beliefs? ...DTH Episode 138 with Dr. Francis Collins

Send Wilk a text with your feedback! What Makes Up Your Web of Beliefs? Those who have followed the DTH podcast for long know about my work with the organization Braver Angels. One vitally important part of that work is a project that I have been working on with Dr. Francis Collins. (Learn more about the "Truth & Trust Project" by  listening to DTH Episodes 119 and 120). Though Francis and I disagree on many aspects of the government's response to the pandemic, we have developed a genuine friendship. As part of our work together, Francis suggested and exercise by asking me, "What makes up your web of beliefs?"What is this "Web of Beliefs?"With Dr. Francis Collins being the former director of the National Institutes of Health, one of the most notable scientists in American history, and the acting Science Advisor to the President of the United States, you might ask, "what could he possibly have in common with a blue collar podcaster from the Midwest"? Combine that with the notion that I have been an outspoken critic of the government's response to the pandemic, and Dr. Collins played a significant role in that response. By today's standards, we should hate each other, or at least do a lot of yelling and name calling. We took a different path. It's all about communication and seeing the humanity and values in who you're speaking with.  Don't miss this incredible conversation where Francis and I discuss how this exercise, "The Web of Beliefs" showed us that we ultimately have more in common than what separates us. While some of our beliefs are very different, the values for which we stand are very much in line. This is what civility despite differences looks like. What have you done today to make your life a better life? What have you done today to make the world a better place? Level Up Your Life with Next Level Thinking... DTH Episode 136 with Kevin Palmieri

Send Wilk a text with your feedback!Level Up Your Life with Next Level ThinkingSometimes in life, once we attain a goal, we realize that goal is not quite the prize that we imagined it would be. This is not to say that goals are not important, because they very much are. This is to say, that often people put to much of their personal fulfillment and joy into external results. This can lead to a whole different kind of misery. This is the time to level up your life with next level thinking.Kevin Palmieri talks Next Level thinking After hitting his goal of a six-figure income, Kevin realized that there had to be more. He had the car, the money, the typical “American Dream.” It took getting it all to realize that what matters most is your thoughts. And that’s how Next Level University was born. In this great DTH conversation, Kevin and I discuss the importance of reflection and becoming very familiar with yourself. "What do you enjoy so much that you lose track of time?" We talk about life's purpose, good habits and consistency. And of course, we talk about Kevin's own story and how that lead to Next Level University. What have you done today to make your life a better life?
