Bettering The World By Being The Change You Want To See... DTH Episode 163 with King Randall, I

Send Wilk a text with your feedback!Bettering The World By Being The Change You Want To SeeAnyone who’s listened to the DTH podcast for long has probably heard me mention the quote "be the change you want to see in the world". This carries profound meaning in relation to another topic I speak of often, the perpetual victim mentality. Too often, individuals perceive themselves as helpless victims of external circumstances, attributing their struggles solely to external forces beyond their control. What happens when one chooses to fully embrace the essence of the quote, challenges that perception, and helps to empower individuals to take ownership of their actions and attitudes? This shift in mindset fosters a sense of agency, resilience, and hope. This is one of the reasons I’m so passionate about doing the Derate the Hate podcast and having the conversations I’m blessed to have. This is why I like to find guests who are bettering the world by being the change they want to see. Who is King Randall, IKing Randall, I is a 23 year old native of Albany, GA. Seeing a need to help enhance and advance the lives of the young men in his community, he set out to take action to combat the high poverty and crime rates in the southwest Georgia city. In doing so, King founded “The X for Boys, Life Preparatory School” and its related programs. The Life Preparatory School for Boys is a 501(c)3 charitable organization with a mission to teach boys the true meaning of manhood & to be protectors and providers for their communities. Unfortunately, not all see the merit in what King is doing, or how he is doing it, and in true keyboard warrior fashion, take to social media to attack his efforts. King, however, is not deterred and keeps up his mission to better the world by being the change he wants to see.Learn more and connect with King Randall, I by checking out the full show notes for this episode at DerateTheHate.com.What have you done today to make your life a better life? Are Our Political Rivals As Bad As We Think They Are? DTH Episode 161 with Daniel F. Stone

Send Wilk a text with your feedback! Are Our Political Rivals As Bad As We Think They Are?For the great majority of my life I had no interest in politics. It was not until after 9/11 that I had any interest whatsoever in anything any politician had to say. The only thing about politics I was certain of was that I didn't want anything to do with politics. For many that I knew, their stories were similar. In the past decade, or decade and a half, that has steadily been changing. People across the political spectrum are becoming more entrenched in their political beliefs, maybe overconfident in their beliefs, and allowing their political beliefs to become part of their core identities. For some, lines have been drawn and their political rivals are now thought of as enemies. I believe though, the question must be asked; are our political rivals as bad as we think they are?Who is Daniel F. Stone?A short time back I came across a fascinating article when searching topics for the work I do in the depolarization space. I knew immediately that the author of "Your political rivals aren’t as bad as you think – here’s how misunderstandings amplify hostility", found at theConversation.com, was someone who I wanted to speak with.Dan Stone is an Associate Professor of Economics that has been teaching in the Economics department at Bowdoin since 2012 and prior to that I was assistant professor at Oregon State University from 2008-2012. Dan's research is on belief formation, political media, polarization, and inter-personal hostility (a.k.a. affective polarization).  Dan's recently released book, "Undue Hate" dives in to "How to understand the mistakes we make about those on the other side of the political spectrum—and how they drive the affective polarization that is tearing us apart."Learn more about and connect with Daniel F. A Mother's Legacy; Live a Life of Gratitude... DTH Episode 160 with Sammy Farrens

Send Wilk a text with your feedback!A Mother's Legacy; Live a Life of GratitudeI've said so many times and so many ways, life is less about what is happening to us, but how we react to it that makes the difference. Some will look at a field full of beautiful flowers and focus on the weed, while others can look over a field of weeds and pick out the one beautiful flower. How is it that one person who's been bombarded with life's challenges can be happy while others who've been given so much, struggle with misery and depression. Much of this my friends boils down to gratitude. My guest this week understands this very well, because he carries a mother's legacy; Live a Life of Gratitude.Who is Sammy Farrens? Sammy is a US veteran and has been married for over 20 years to Janet, his high school sweetheart. Together they have 3 amazing children and 3 beautiful grand-babies. During the early months of the pandemic, Sammy, like many did, found him self with some involuntary spare time. He took to watching the news, but the ugliness of all the doom and gloom put him in a place mentally he didn't want to be. Sammy dove into a couple things he loved, making videos and Dad jokes. That was just the beginning.Sammy now holds multiple certifications as a speaker and mindset coach with nearly 47,000 followers on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube.  Sammy Farrens loves to talk to people, almost as much as he loves to listen. His passion is in finding what makes you tick- what motivates you- and in helping you to draw on it to achieve more than you may even think possible! Sammy is also the author of the soon to be published book, "Broken Gratitude".Learn more about and connect with Sammy online by checking out the full show notes for this episode at DerateTheHate.com. When Your Country Is Hijacked By Real Religious Extremists... DTH Episode 159 with Dr. Mahsa Hojat-Khoshniyat

Send Wilk a text with your feedback! When your country is hijacked by real religious extremistsYou don't have to look very far these days to find those that would rather run the United States of America down rather than be grateful for all that she has to offer. Have you ever wondered though why so many choose to emigrate from their home countries around the globe to the United States if we are so oppressive? The numbers coming versus those leaving are quite lopsided, and for good reason. I'm not here to discount peoples' perceived grievances, but things become far more clear when you listen to those who've experience real oppression. Things become very different when your country is hijacked by real religious extremists.Who is Dr. Mahsa Hojat-Khoshniyat?Dr. Mahsa Hojat-Khoshniyat was born in Iran and had the pleasure of growing up with cultural values of empathy, humility, being humble, hardworking, and caring. As a part of her cultural values, from very early on, she learned the importance of human value, dignity and respect despite race, culture, circumstances, socioeconomic status, or education. Mahsa learned the value of perseverance, believing in oneself, standing for what is right, and not giving up even when it gets hard.Despite being raised with this incredible set of core values, Mahsa spent her early years living a duality of circumstances. The country in which she was born, and loved dearly, had been hijacked by religious extremists. Mahsa, as many do in the country of Iran, lived by one set of rules within the confines of her home and something totally different in public.Learn more about Dr. Mahsa Hojat-Khoshniyat by checking out the full show notes for this episode at DerateTheHate.com.What have you done today to make your life a better life? How Can We Promote a Culture of Civility When Discussing Politics? DTH Episode 158 with Julian Adorney

Send Wilk a text with your feedback! How Can We Promote a Culture of Civility When Discussing Politics? Why is it that people these days are so terrified of people of differing opinions and mindsets? Do you think it may have something to do with the toxicity we see in social media? Or maybe it's the bombardment of "if it bleeds it leads", hate, violence and bad news from the main stream 24 hour news cycle? Could it be the politicians, outrage entrepreneurs and grievance grifters that are peddling a constant stream of Fear, Outrage and Grievance? Julian Adorney and I tackle the question, how can we promote a culture of civility when discussing politics?Who is Julian Adorney?Julian Adorney is a former political op-ed writer and current nonprofit marketer. I recently became familiar with Julian when he co-authored a piece with Mark Johnson for the FAIR substack entitled "How to bring civility back to our politics". His work has also been featured in FEE, National Review, Playboy, and Lawrence Reed's economics anthology Excuse Me, Professor.Julian brought so much value to this episode, but one take that stood out for me was:Using toxicity to create outrage may produce short term gains in terms of clicks for the outrage entrepreneur, but it tends to produce a net loss for the movement because it hardens the hearts of those of the opposing mindset.Learn more about and connect with Julian Adorney online by checking out the full show notes at DerateTheHate.comWhat have you done today to make your life a better life? Mindset Matters When Locked Up Abroad... DTH Episode 157 with Chancellor Jackson

Send Wilk a text with your feedback!Mindset Matters When Locked Up AbroadEveryone has a story. Our unique experiences in life is what makes up our story. How we deal with adversity can often make the difference in whether something turns out very bad, or for the good, not just for yourself, but for many others. Do you look at a mistake and see an opportunity? Do you look for an opportunity to learn in all situations? Leaders are those who seek answers and solutions to problems instead of ways to shirk accountability when things go sideways. Mindset can make the difference between things going very badly, or obtaining wisdom. This is especially true in the story of this week's guest. In the case of his particular story, mindset matters when locked up abroad.Who is Chancellor Jackson? Chancellor K Jackson was born in Fulton County, Georgia, to Native American parents, grew up in Smyrna, Georgia, and attended Stetson University. For nine years he played football at the high school and collegiate level. After graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Communication and Media Studies, Chancellor lived abroad in China from 2018-2019. Chancellor fell into writing after his traumatic experience of being arrested, and detained in Beijing for 14 days. His first book, "14 Days in Beijing" has ranked #1 over fifteen times on Amazon in multiple genres. Chancellor has also released a romance saga about a mans first step towards gaining emotional intelligence titled 'You Love and You Learn' & 'Real Love Never Dies' now available on Amazon. Judgemental Awareness and Finding Peace Within... DTH Episode 156 with Yogi Aaron

Send Wilk a text with your feedback!Judgemental Awareness and Finding Peace WithinI wouldn't have guessed it, being somewhat judgemental myself. I know, or knew little prior to this week's conversation about yoga. I would have never guessed that having a conversation with a world-renowned yoga teacher could be so enlightening. One of the greatest part of having conversations is learning. I'm always trying to learn new things, but when this week's guest reached out, I wasn't sure his pitch was fitting what I'm trying to do with the DTH podcast. He then reached out a second time, bringing to my attention an article he'd recently written called "How to stop being a judgemental asshole & find peace within".  Now, not to discount yoga in any way, that made a lot more sense to me and I'm glad it did. What a great conversation that led to, talking judgemental awareness and finding peace within.Who is Yogi Aaron?Yogi Aaron is the creator of the revolutionary approach to yoga — Applied Yoga Anatomy + Muscle Activation™ (AYAMA), host of the yoga podcast ‘Stop Stretching’, author of ‘Autobiography of a Naked Yogi’ and the forth-coming book ‘Stop Stretching: Eliminate Pain. Through Positivity, Thoughts Become Things... DTH Episode 155 with Neo Positivity

Send Wilk a text with your feedback!Through Positivity, Thoughts Become ThingsHave you heard about the law of attraction? You've probably heard me talk about the reticular activating system. I first mentioned it way back in DTH episode 52. The law of attraction works very much along the same lines. The basic principle is, the things you focus upon most, you will attract more of. If you are constantly focusing on negativity and toxicity, you will then invite into your life more negativity and toxicity. The same goes for positivity my friends. It is without question, if you spread positivity, more positivity will find you. Through positivity, thoughts become things.Who is Neo Positivity and what is the "Thoughts Become Things" movement?Born in one of the poorest and most dangerous cities in America, Neo was determined to make something of himself. His accomplishments in karate, football and on the police force were soon overshadowed by his true passion: the human brain. After discovering the law of attraction in 2008, Neo devoted himself to learning, studying and practicing it daily. By the end of that year, Neo had retired with a wealth of knowledge. In gratitude, Neo made a vow to share this secret with the world. He then set out  to compile and share every Law of Attraction tip and secret he could find. His passion for developing his own unique methods and sharing them with others had just begun. Since then, Neo has hosted talk shows, radio shows, podcasts and over 1000 live streams.Neo has dedicated himself to teaching the law of attraction through conferences, group settings, and one on one coaching sessions. His course is a culmination of the knowledge he has gained from his own experience and from the monthly Law of Attraction Summits he hosts. His ultimate mission is to bring the Law of Attraction to the forefront of people's minds and create a positive, lasting change in the world.Learn more about and connect with Neo Positivity by visiting the show notes for this episode at DerateTheHate.com. You Shall Be Known By The Fruit You Bear... DTH Episode 154 with Nathaniel A. Turner

Send Wilk a text with your feedback! You Shall Be Known By The Fruit You BearI'm sure you've heard the phrase, in some fashion or another, that is derived from Matthew 7: 15-20. It's not an exact quote, but the meaning is so very true. What is more important that we can do in this world than to leave good humans to follow up where we left off? We as individuals have a responsibility to be good people. If we choose to have children, it is then our responsibility to make them good humans too. Human nature is not "inherently good", so it is our responsibility to guide our children in the ways of goodness. Are you good? What would your children say? You shall be known by the fruit you bear.Who is Nathaniel A. Turner?Nathaniel A Turner is the author of multiple books, including the history-making Raising Supaman. Turner’s books, videos, speeches, and training programs have empowered countless numbers of people and organizations. So that his child might be intellectually astute, globally competent, and socially conscious, Nate intentionally backward designed his son’s life. Today, those tools, techniques, and strategies which were initially created explicitly for his son are educational and life development staples for people all over the country. To learn more about Nate Turner, check out the full notes for this episode at DerateTheHate.com...What have you done today to make your life a better life?
