An important way to be on the right track towards our theme this year to "Rediscover Church" is to learn directly from Jesus.  We rediscover who we are as Christ's church gathered and scattered by rediscovering who Jesus is: his life, teaching, values, and relationships that culminated in his crucifixion and resurrection. So in this series, "Rediscover Jesus," we will study the Gospel of Luke from chapters 4-9, which record the Lord's public ministry in the area of Galilee. For Christians, this will be a great way to learn directly from Jesus about what it means to be his disciples living together as a church.  For others- like former church-goers, people from other religions, or non-religious people- this will be a great way to discover Jesus for the first time.

Over the last two years during this pandemic, it has been easy to disengage and disappear from the church and it’s been difficult for the church to live out what it means to be the church gathered and scattered for the glory of God.  This is an opportunity to “rediscover” who we are as HMCC and what Christ calls us to be and do as his church.

This is a four-part Advent (or Christmas) sermon series. “Advent” refers to the coming of Christ, which is what Christmas celebrates. “Emmanuel” means “God with us,” which is what Jesus was to be called, for he is God with us. In the first Christmas, all of creation, and especially God's people, anticipated the coming of Christ. So in this four-part Advent sermon series throughout December, we will unpack the ways we can anticipate Jesus' advent this season as well in wondering, welcoming, worshiping, and waiting. Especially in light of the difficulties the world has faced throughout the pandemic, the birth of Jesus into the world gives us unending hope. So as we enter into this season of Christmas, let’s invite our family and friends to Sunday Celebration and look for opportunities to share this hope that we have in Christ.

As we recover from COVID-19 Pandemic, we want to study these 2 Old Testament Historical books which delve into how the Jews rebuild themselves as God's people after Babylonic exile.
