Jesus is greater than we think, but we’re not as great as we think. I. Jesus is greater than we think (vv. 41- 44) II. We’re not as great as we think (vv. 45 - 47) Three potential ways hypocrisy can look for us: 1. We pretend not to struggle. 2. We act differently at home, church, and work. 3. We have different standards for ourselves and others.

Let’s live by faith in the resurrection age to come. 1. The Sadducees denied and ridiculed the resurrection (vv. 27-33) 2. Jesus clarified and defended the resurrection (vv. 34-40)

Secure your heart onto the strong foundation of God’s Word. How God’s Word is our strong foundation: 1. God’s Word is firmly fixed forever beyond all generations (vv.89-91) 2. God’s Word deepens our delight beyond all afflictions (vv.92-95) 3. God’s Word is perfect and powerful beyond all limitations (v.96)

Luke 1:67-79 | Praise God for the multifaceted gift of salvation that we have in Jesus.  I. Zechariah blesses God for saving his people through Jesus (vv. 67-75) II. Zechariah blesses his son John for preparing the way for Jesus (vv. 76-79) Seven facets of the gift of salvation that we have in Jesus:  Visitation: God visits his people  Compassion: God shows his “tender mercy” to his people  Forgiveness: God forgives the sin of his people  Cost: God redeems his people  Deliverance: God delivers his people from their enemies 1 Corinthians 15:55-57 = “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.  Light: God gives light to his people  Fulfillment: God fulfils his promises to his people

Submit to governing authorities as part of submitting everything to God’s authority. I. Jesus is asked an “either-or” question (vv. 19-22) II. Jesus gives a “both-and” response (vv. 23-26) What does it look like for us to submit to governing authorities as part of submitting everything to God’s authority? 1. Pray for governing authorities 2. Pay your taxes 3. Obey the law 4. Share the gospel and make disciples Three of God’s purposes for governing authorities: • To administer the justice required for protecting human life • To enable people to fulfill the cultural mandate (“be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over [it]”) • To provide a stable context for God’s people to share the gospel and make disciples

Submit to Jesus for he is the Son of God who acts in the authority of God. I. The religious leaders question Jesus’ authority (19:47-20:2) II. Jesus answers with a question (20:3-8) III. Jesus answers with a parable (20:9-18)

Faith in Jesus means following him even when we don’t understand nor see everything. 1. Faith in Jesus means trusting the one who understands everything (vv.31-34) 2. Faith in Jesus means persevering in crying out to Jesus as King (vv.35-42) 3. III. Faith in Jesus means choosing to follow him over other things (v.43)
