ep 201 - Enneagram 1: Maliquea Starnes

Hi friends! Today we are kicking off what I suspect is going to be one of my favorite series to date-Clutter & The Enneagram. If you have been around me for more than a hot second, you will know that I have a slight obsession with the Enneagram (at least according to my family). If you’re new to the Enneagram, it’s a personality typology with nine distinct types. What makes the Enneagram different from other personality assessments is that your Enneagram type is determined by your core motivation, rather than strictly on behavior.Basically the WHY we do what we do.Another difference from other assessments, is that the Enneagram looks at BOTH strengths and blindspots providing opportunities for personal growth in a host of areas.I’ve spent the past few years studying the many layers of the Enneagram, looking at clutter patterns and connecting the dots between peoples relationship with clutter and their Enneagram type. This series looks at 9 people each with different enneagram numbers. We talk about what makes their enneagram type unique, how they learned about the enneagram, and their personal relationship with clutter and organization as it relates to the Enneagram. To kick off this series, I am joined by Enneagram 1 (also known as the Perfectionist), Maliquea Starnes.During our conversation we talked about:⦁ The Inner Critic of Ones⦁ The role of Emotional Clutter in her life⦁ Why clutter and organization can be both a struggle and strength for Type OnesMaliquea shares her words of wisdom for our fellow Enneagram Ones (or people who are married to, or parent Ones) to better understand them. After listening, I’d love to hear your thoughts in our facebook group, This ORGANIZED Life Podcast. Make sure to tune in next week to hear my conversation with Enneagram 2, Ashton Whitmoyer-Ober.P.S. ep 194 - Homeschooling with Kristi Clover

Hi Friends! At the time of this recording, COVID and Quarantine barely on our radar. In fact, my original focus for this interview was supposed to be about “take your kid to work” for the homeschooling mom. Who knew the foreshadowing that was about to happen. My guest today is Kristi Clover is a home organization and #momlife expert. Kristi is the author of M.O.M.=Master Organizer of Mayhem and Homeschool Basics, and host of the Simply Joyful Podcast and YouTube Channel. Her passion is to encourage families to find simple ways to bring more joy into their home and life. She loves to share about her adventures in motherhood and home life through a variety of media that you can find at KristiClover.com. Kristi lives in San Diego with her husband, Steve, and their five children. As a homeschooling mom we talked about how she separates home-life from school-life, and what organization looks like under her roof. If I had any idea of what was about to happen with public school, I would have had a thousand more questions for Kristi! From tips to keep kids motivated and engaged, to asking her advice for parents who may not feel adequately prepared to homeschool their kids. As we embark on a return to school, we’re all in different places logistically and mentally, but collectively we can listen & learn together. I hope you enjoy my conversation with Kristi!         XOXO- Laurie         Episode #200!  Please help us celebrate our upcoming 200th episode by calling 1-800-509-8171 or visit https://lifeonrecord.com/this-organized-life/ and leave us a message on your favorite episode or what you love about our show– We will be reading your answers live on the air! This service is sponsored by LifeOnRecord – a meaningful audio keepsake of phoned in stories, memories, and well-wishes from family and friends telling the recipient why they are special. ep 193 - Career Moms with Jenny Elliott

Hi Friends! Today I am joined by fellow working mom and podcaster, Jenny Elliott. Jenny is the host of Career Mom Podcast which helps to support moms working in corporate America (and boy do we need that NOW more than ever!). After the birth of her son, Jenny was so unprepared for the transition from being a CAREER WOMAN to a CAREER MOM that she had a complete identity crisis. We had an honest conversation about how she struggled with a loss of identity as a stay at home mom, why it wasn’t talked about, and how she created a platform to have honest conversations with other women who are struggling with similar issues. We talked about things like: ● Why her decision to return to work after having her son was a no-brainer. ● Dispelling the myths of what defines a “good mom.” ● Feelings of Imposter Syndrome. ● Why removing physical clutter was a big part of freeing up the mental space needed to sort through her new identity. ● How organization and systems are a key part to making working mom life work (although so is grace when those don’t always work as intended!) For many women there is a real line of “who I was before kids” and “who I am now” and not everyone wants to talk about it, but we do! If you or someone you know is struggling with either the transition from career to motherhood, or trying to juggle “all the things,” I encourage you to share this episode-you never know who needs to hear it. Make sure to check out the links below to check out Jenny’s podcast!         XOXO-   Laurie         P.S.
