The Relentless Pursuit of a Better Way w/ Liz Rogers

Today we welcome the newest member of the P3 Adaptive family, Liz Rogers as she shares her relentless pursuit to find a better way. Liz’s story highlights the rarest hybrid data type yet, those with a self-sufficient mindset who are translators between the process/tech and the customer/user experience. This data type truly focuses on improvement across all segments. Her passion for figuring it out brought about both immediate, visible impact and scalability to every position in her career. Throughout today’s talk, Liz highlights the most persistent of data traits, she has always insisted on having the opportunity (and the ability) to try, fail, and then figure it out. Often, in a business setting, too many people focus only on success and frown upon the failures that are hyper-critical to the learning process. Without the opportunity to fail, however, you end up with people who want to be baby bird-fed data who lose the desire to utilize the most incredible, self-service tools of the Power Platform. These are the opportunities where the puzzle solvers thrive when people like Liz grow and evolve into true Power Platform superheroes. You won’t want to miss this episode! Small Biz, Big Impact w/ Fran Reed

On today’s episode, self-described accountant by trade and a problem solver by passion, Fran Reed of Freedup Data Optics shares how she uses her data bending skills to remove the frustration of working with an on-premises accounting software build. Fran is one of the rare go-betweens of the Power Platform and Intuit’s Quickbooks. She makes easy work of bridging the gap between numbers and decision-makers to design the best solution for both her large and small business clientele. With the ability of Power Query to cleanse and transform data to the perfect format for the transition to QuickBooks, the low/free entry cost and Fran’s recommendation may just tip the scale to bringing more small businesses to the fold. Fran also shares her data origin story. While she has always been a numbers person, Fran developed an early appreciation of software and took the first opportunity to transition away from the antiquated accounting technology of the past like Micro Fiche machines and Exacto knife/scotch tape corrections to computational files and automated calculations. Beware, however, that today’s episode may also result in a few laughs as host, Rob Collie drops the mother of all Dad Jokes. You do not want to miss this episode. The Freediving, Meditating Data Translator, w/ Allison Kennedy

On today’s episode of Raw Data by P3 Adaptive, we welcome Allison Kennedy to the show. Allision is a Certified Microsoft trainer and MVP specializing in Excel but, according to her, that just means that she is a puzzle solver, number cruncher, and an Excel aficionado. Allision is one of the rare data gene types who loves teaching others to embrace their data for the good of humanity or for one-upping Australia. A true educator at heart, Allision’s data origin story involves transitioning from Mechanical Engineering into education, first with languages in Spain and then with all things data on the other side of the world in New Zealand proving that with the right data skills, you really can go places. In addition, we hear about her other passion: meditative free diving. Recently certified as a Four Start Advanced Master freediver, Allison can reach depths of 32 meters on a single lung full of air (don’t try this at home).  On the topic of freediving, Rob shares a Pop Collie anecdote, and we have a good laugh at the wiliness of the Collie family in pranking the younger generation. Going Bananas for Data, w/ Jeff Lingen

It seems fitting for the week of Saint Patrick’s Day to include some Shamrocks. This week, we welcome to the show, Jeff Lingen from Shamrock Foods Company. Boasting 15+ years of data management and BI development, Jeff is the Director of Business Intelligence and Analytics and a coder of DAX from way back. Today Jeff gives us the inside scoop on his data origin story of escaping the data drudgery behind finance and moving into the analytics field and beyond. Like all carriers of the data gene, there was a moment of realization for Jeff that non-mainstream ideas could enable and empower business users to be more self-sufficient. Naturally, this new age thinking created some friction with the OS I.T. but Jeff persisted until he proved to himself and others that Power Pivot and its successor, Power BI, could enable sophisticated modeling and analytics. Even though this road was more difficult, Jeff was determined to give his users the tools to find joy in data. Through extensive use of the P3 Adaptive Blog, Jeff moved away from flat reporting to Power BI to push his self-service message and further his career. As an exciting plot twist, Jeff even talks through his experience of briefly defecting from Power BI to Tableau before returning to the Microsoft fold. You won’t want to miss this episode. The Return of the Revenge of Matt Selig

Today on Raw Data by P3 Adaptive, we check in with past guest Matt Selig of @Barkeeperfriend to see how post-project implementation is going.  In this visit, Matt brings coworker Christina Roark, Controller and VP of Digital Marketing, to discuss using Power BI to create visual stories to create a social media marketing department and fine-tuning inventory reporting -- in the middle of a pandemic -- to bolster continued growth. While no plan survives its initial implementation both Matt and Chrissy assure us that the Power Platform is more than a match for anything that 2022 can throw at it. Listen in as they discuss the common threads in business growth during a global pandemic: good product and exceptionally agile BI. While other companies were struggling to bubble up insight, the team at Bar Keepers Friend was using rapid prototyping to discover areas of opportunity and to triage existing data processes and management. As Chrissy put it, you must take care of your data before it gets to the software if you want the reporting to be accurate. Dashboards will bring issues to light, internal issues with processes that you must fix for people to rely on reports and dashboards. Want to know more?
