Thomas Heatherwick on Designing on a Human Scale

For Thomas Heatherwick, architecture and urban design go hand-in-hand. Like with all of his projects, he strives to consider them from a human scale capturing the essence of what already exists. His holistic approach brings a thoughtful dimension to architecture, design and urban spaces. Joining the interview is ArchDaily editor, Christele Harrouk, to explore deeper into how Heatherwick approaches his projects with an inspiring amount of integrity and humility.  Design and the City, is a podcast produced by reSITE about the ways we can use design to make cities more livable and lovable. reSITE is a global non-profit acting to improve the urban environment, both on the stage at our events, and off. Design and the City Trailer

Design and the City is a podcast about the ways we can use design to make cities more livable and lovable. reSITE is excited to announce the launch of its first-ever official podcast, Design and the City. We interviewed eight speakers ahead reSITE 2020 for a more intimate, in-depth dig into their current projects and outlooks on the future of our cities. Hear from Thomas Heatherwick (Heatherwick Studios), Chris Precht (Studio Precht), Leona Lynen (Haus der Statistik), and Ravi Naidoo (Design Indaba) among others. Cities are the sum of designers, developers, artists, citizens, public officials, entrepreneurs, and the displaced, but rarely do each of these constituencies gather in the same room, let alone speak the same language, and cities suffer for it. reSITE is literally that room. In order to create a city that is truly for everyone, we need to work together. We need to have conversations, debates, discussions, and we need to create a little bit of that friction where the magic happens. We use our flagship event to do just that and frame the future of cities through as many different perspectives as we can. This year we aim to create conversations around how cities can regenerate themselves from every angle. reSITE is a global non-profit acting to improve the urban environment, both on the stage at our events, and off. We work at the intersection of architecture, urbanism, politics, culture, and economics, acting as a catalyst for social action and innovative leadership. We encourage the exchange of ideas about making cities more livable, competitive, resilient, inclusive, mobile, and designing with humans in mind to protect and public space, architecture, and sustainable development in cities.  Learn More + Connect with Us! www.reSITE.org Follow reSITE on Facebook | https://www.facebook.com/reSITEfestival/  Follow reSITE on Instagram | https://www.instagram.com/resite_/  Follow reSITE on Twitter | https://twitter.com/reSITE_  Follow reSITE on LinkedIn | https://www.linkedin.com/company/resiteorg  This podcast was created by reSITE, the global non-profit acting to improve the urban environment and organized as part of the project Shared Cities: Creative Momentum with kind support from the City of Prague.
