MLB Strikes New Deals With NBC, ESPN & Netflix; Jordan Spieth's 'Crush It Cup'

Join hosts Michael Barr, Damian Sassower and Vanessa Perdomo for a look at some of the latest headlines and stories in the business of sports.Major League Baseball reached new broadcast agreements with Comcast Corp.’s NBC Sports, Walt Disney Co.’s ESPN and Netflix Inc., clinching three-year deals valued at $800 million.Under the accords announced Wednesday, NBC and its Peacock streaming service will have Sunday night games and the wild-card playoffs in a $200 million-a-year deal starting next season, according to a person with knowledge of the matter.Netflix took the Home Run Derby and the opening day game in a $50 million-per-year deal, said the person, who asked not to be identified because the terms aren’t public. Netflix also won the rights to the Field of Dreams game, which is played where the movie Field of Dreams was made in Iowa. ESPN will air around 30 regular-season games, as it did previously, and now also has the rights to market MLB.TV as part of its ESPN streaming service. MLB.TV lets subscribers watch games outside the markets where they live. MLB Pitchers Charged in a New Betting Scheme; Serena Williams at the American Business Forum

Join hosts Michael Barr, Damian Sassower and Vanessa Perdomo for a look at some of the latest headlines and stories in the business of sports.  Cleveland Guardians all-star pitcher Emmanuel Clase pleaded not guilty to charges he participated in an alleged scheme to rig bets based on pitches he threw during Major League Baseball games.Michael Ferrara, a lawyer for Clase, entered the plea on his behalf at a federal court hearing on Thursday in Brooklyn, New York. US Magistrate Judge Joseph Marutollo released Clase on $600,000 bond and restricted his travel to New York and Ohio. Federal prosecutors charged Clase, 27, and teammate Luis Ortiz, 26, last week of conspiring with bettors to throw specific types and speeds of pitches in exchange for bribes. On some occasions, Clase allegedly bet on his own pitches. The friend, Deniro Laster, used the tip to place more than $200,000 in bets predicting Rozier would fall short of his usual point total.By the next morning, federal prosecutors say, the two men were counting their winnings together in Rozier’s home.
