Holly Pivec and Doug Geivett - Counterfeit Kingdom
Counterfeit Kingdom reveals dangers and distortions of New Apostolic Reformation & its influence on American ChurchA dangerous set of teachings is shaping America’s worship songs, ministries and political engagement. This new movement is influencing many churches and individual Christians, often without their realization. But is this biblical Christianity? The New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) is a popular, new movement of Christians who emphasize signs and wonders and teach that God is giving new revelation through new “apostles” and “prophets.” While much of what NAR leaders put forth may seem mainstream at first glance, a study of its teachings and practices reveals troubling underpinnings. In their new book Counterfeit Kingdom, apologists and NAR experts Holly Pivec and Doug Geivett show how NAR's key tenets distort the gospel of grace and diminish the deity of Jesus, as well as include New Age practices. The book also includes personal stories that have flooded Pivec’s and Geivett’s inboxes over the years from those who have experienced spiritual abuse in NAR churches from those who claim authority.Counterfeit Kingdom aids every believer in the vital work of discernment and best-selling author Alisa Childers calls it the “most important book you will read this year.” In addition, Pivec and Geivett hope their book will aid church leaders in understanding NAR, giving them biblically grounded, practical suggestions for discipling individuals who are already influenced by false teachings. The church-at-large needs a wake-up call and Counterfeit Kingdom provides research, anecdotes and faithfulness to historic Christian teaching at just the right time.Purchase on AmazonHolly Pivec is a blogger, author, and speaker, as well as a pastor’s wife and homeschooling mom. She has a master’s degree in apologetics from Biola University, where she also served as university editor for nearly a decade. She has co-authored two books about the New Apostolic Reformation: A New Apostolic Reformation? and God’s Super-Apostles. She operates a popular blog, which has followers from around the world, and she has spoken and written for several audiences and outlets.Doug Geivett is a husband, father to two grown children, professor, author, and speaker. He has a Ph.D. in philosophy from USC and teaches at Biola University and Talbot School of Theology. Doug has written or edited several books and spoken on issues related to the New Apostolic Reformation, Christian apologetics, and the Christian life to audiences all over the world.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-b-a-r-podcast/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

I loved the phrases Brooke used in this book as well, she uses wording that was easy to understand but mature enough for middle schoolers to not feel patronized while reading it, which is such a hard balance to find with books for younger women! The main character is extremely relatable and reminds me of several younger believers I know, the book makes it super easy to place yourself in her situations or relate her to yourself! It's amazing, especially considering the media younger girls are supposed to relate with now, Brooke's book is paving a new way for young women to have easily relatable, funny, and biblically sound reading material. I really loved the chapter where Fiona shared her testimony and talked on how her parents were struggling but how they handled it biblically, it was so refreshing and I feel that will not only be a good lesson for younger girls but comforting for them. I LOVE DARBY 😭 Darby and Fiona remind me SO MUCH of my best friend and I it's insane, I love the amount of perspective Brooke puts into this book and how she shows Fiona handling all her friends with love, care, and the gospel. 10000/10, this is by far the best book for younger women that's gospel centered I've ever read. ❤Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-b-a-r-podcast/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
