The prison-industrial complex (PIC) is a term, coined after the "military-industrial complex" of the 1950s, used by scholars and activists to describe the relationship between a government and the various businesses that benefit from institutions of incarceration (such as prisons, jails, detention facilities, and psychiatric hospitals). The term is most often used in the context of the contemporary United States, where the rapid expansion of the U.S. inmate population has resulted in political influence and economic profits for private prison companies and other businesses that supply goods and services to government prison agencies. This lecture by Ted Gunderson was originally given on 11/11/2010. Ted was a Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent In Charge and head of the Los Angeles FBI, and an American author. Some of his FBI case work included the Death of Marilyn Monroe and the Assassination of John F. Kennedy. He was the author of the best-selling book How to Locate Anyone Anywhere Without Leaving Home. In later life, he researched a number of topics, notably including satanic ritual abuse.
