Dr Queenie Pang, a respiratory registrar in the East Midlands, talks to us about referrals in to tertiary care for asthma management. We talk a little about her research into Mepolizumab, when it would be used and how it works, and the MDT approach to severe asthma management. 

We are delighted to be joined once again by Dr Ameen Jubber, Rheumatology registrar in East Midlands. Dr Jubber is going to give us a quick overview of one of the most common inflammatory arthritis - gout. Listen to this excellent talk about diagnosis and treatment.  

Viral Encephalitis is inflammation of brain caused by viruses. It commonly presents with Headache, altered mental state, fever, and/or seizures. 

Hypoglycemia is common in hospitalised patients and is associated with worse outcomes, including increased mortality. Dr Tom Crabtree, one of our diabetes registrars in the East Midlands, gives us an overview of hypoglycaemia - its recognition, possible causes and management options. 

Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH) is is a disorder of increased intracranial pressure that occurs mainly in overweight women of childbearing years. Having the commonest presentation of headache, we encounter of these patients quite often in acute setting. On this episode , we are talking about how we should approach in diagnosis and management.

This week we have the pleasure of introducing the latest member of the MEMcast team - Dr Rodric Francis! Rodric is a microbiology and infectious diseases registrar in the East Midlands, and in this episode we talk about antibiotic resistance mechanisms and the importance of antibiotic stewardship. 

We often encounter patients presenting with bilateral leg weakness in emergency department, ward and clinic. If we have a good systematic approach , we will be more confident to reach differentials and outline a management plan.

We return this week with doctor Dimitris Papamargaritis, we are discussing obesity management in context of type 2 diabetes. You are going to hear about the most important studies like Look ahead and SOS (Swedish Obese Subjects) and what we have learnt over the years about management of diabetes and obesity plus new treatments in pipeline. Essential listening.

Doctor Papamargaritis will explain obesity - causes, management options and future treatment options.
