Ep 166: Oceans 8
To pull off this review, we're gonna need a Charlotte, a Carrie, a Samantha and a really good Miranda!
It's time for the crossover event of the century as we're joined by the fantastic Speaking of Carrie hosts Melissa Stokoski and Elyse Brandau to discuss Gary Ross' Oceans 8.
Does this lady focussed fourth installment break the glass ceiling or is it just pulling off the same heist we've seen before?

Ep 165: Hereditary
We're going down the TOPAM family history and bringing back MTV News Video Director Steven Roberts (www.twitter.com/stevenwoberts) to dissect the debut feature, Hereditary from writer/director Ari Aster.
We discuss Greek mythology, the disconnect between audiences and critics and how a great horror movie can give you more than just a jump scare.

Ep 164: Psychokinesis
Released on Netflix the same week as another superhero movie made by a little studio called Marvel, Yeon Sang-ho's Psychokinesis has been called one of the finest genre films of the decade. That means it's time for Matt and Shahir to suit up, fly into action and review the first Korean superhero film.
What makes a superhero movie a superhero movie? Super strength, flying... or is it the capes? The guys try to figure out how to identify a superhero film even when that film doesn't follow every arbitrary rule they think is important.
If you've figured out their secret identities email Matt and Shahir your thinly veiled threats to onlymoviepodcast@gmail.com or unmask them on Twitter at www.twitter.com/onlymoviepod

Ep 163: Solo - A Star Wars Story
Terrified that in Shahir's absence he might have to go into this podcast as this films namesake implies, Matt enlists writer, game designer and co-creator of the YouTube series Extra Credits James Portnow to help smuggle this show across interstellar boarders.
We talk the consequence of having none, humans speaking Wookie-ese, and what course the Star Wars franchise as a whole needs to plot into its own corporate navo-computer in order to not crash and burn during it's jump into release-cycle hyperspeed!

Ep 162: Deadpool 2
Can the merc with the mouth break the fourth wall long enough for Matt and Shahir to sneak through time and use all of their luck to unpack the sequel to 2016's Deadpool?
We open the fridge doors and discuss violence, comedy and whether time travel narratives have enough stakes to keep us interested. Has superhero fatigue finally kicked in or does Deadpool 2 slice and dice enough to make this sequel a cut above?
If you've got a listener request or want to wink knowingly at the camera, send us a screenshot or email to onlymoviepodcast@gmail.com. Alternatively, you can fire some shots directly at us on twitter at www.twitter.com/onlymoviepod.

Ep 161: Amateur
We've got Hoop Dreams this week as we're joined by writer/director and founder of NoFilmSchool Ryan Koo to discuss his directorial debut "Amateur" now streaming on Netflix.
Proving that we're playing behind the backboard and Above the Rim, Matt and Shahir pass the rock to Ryan who fills us in on the incredible seven year journey to bringing Amateur to Netflix.
If you'd like some easy buckets, email us at onlymoviepodcast@gmail.com or alley-oop a tweet at www.twitter.com/onlymoviepod and watch us choke an easy layup.
Also, if you have more questions for Ryan (www.twitter.com/ryanbkoo), don't forget to email his podcast questions for his Q&A episode at firstfeature@nofilmschool.com

Ep 160: 2001 A Space Odyssey
Check your listings because Stanley Kubrick's 1968 masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey is returning to planet earth with special 70mm engagements this week only!
We're thrilled to present this special episode with author and astronomer Dr. Jana Grcevich as we try to bridge the gap between filmmaking and science. Dr. Grcevich's book "Vacation Guide to the Solar System" is the perfect jumping off point to figure out if Stanley Kubrick's psychedelic trip to Jupiter still makes sense 50 years later!

Ep 159: Avengers Infinity War
We're at the end times... sorta.
Bringing our MCU review marathon to a close, we finally arrive at Avengers: Infinity War, a surprisingly appropriate title for this billion dollar blockbuster.
Returning hero Shalyah Evans comes back to find out if the 18 preceding films prepared us enough for Thanos and his giant purple chin. Shahir makes a cameo appearance to talk about contractual enforcement and whether or not the MCU is the biggest exquisite corpse in literary history. And perhaps most surprisingly, has Matt reached his threshold of deferred storytelling?
Rewind time and check out Matt and Shalyah's three-part MCU recap and don't forget to email us your soul stones at onlymoviepodcast@gmail.com. You can also change reality by tweeting us at www.twitter.com/onlymoviepod

Ep 158: You Were Never Really Here
If you only see one movie about a man and his hammer this summer, make sure it's the one starring "Walkman Pheonix" and not that Hemsworth guy.
We know there's a little indie film about super friends fighting purple giants that came out over the weekend, but if you want to flex your moviepass, we strongly urge you to check out Lynn Ramsey's "You Were Never Really Here" which makes us question whether hammer-on-face violence is really something you want to indulge in.
Filling in for Matt is "No F*ckin Ziti's" Brendan McCarthy who joins Shahir as they deep dive on this ultraviolent tale of revenge and retribution which subverts everything we want and gives us something entirely unexpected.
If you'd like to avenge Matt while he's traveling, tell us how you'd do it by emailing onlymoviepodcast@gmail.com. Also, we highly recommend tweeting all your fake spoilers to www.twitter.com/onlymoviepod
