Bertrand Newson: Running for Change
Today, October 21, is the official launch date of the Coaches of Color Initiative (COCI), a program created by the 80/20 Endurance Foundation to improve diversity in endurance sports. To mark the occasion, we’re releasing a special episode of the 80/20 Endurance podcast featuring COCI’s co-director, Bertrand Newson. Just a few short years ago, Bertrand was a hotel executive and beer league softball player who had never run farther than a mile. Today he is a veteran of more than 300 timed running events, a certified running coach, and head of one of the largest and most diverse running clubs in the US. And he’s on a mission to help other people of color make their own endurance dreams come true through the Coaches of Color Initiative. Sue Reynolds: The Athlete Inside
Sue Reynolds is living proof that emulating the exercise and eating practices of elite athletes can help anyone achieve peak health and fitness. By doing these very things, Sue transformed herself from a 335-lb couch potato into a 135-lb World Championships-qualifying triathlete—all between the ages of 56 and 62! But the inner transformation Sue experienced over the course of this journey, which is detailed in her book The Athlete Inside, is the real story, and you’re going to want to hear it. Dr. Noel Brick: Mind Over Muscle
Few people know more about how elite endurance athletes think than Noel Brick, a sports psychologist at Ulster University and coauthor of the new book The Genius of Athletes. In this week’s podcast, Noel gives us a bunch of insights into elite thinking, and what’s cool about it is that he does so on the eve of putting his knowledge into practice in a half marathon, where he hoped to set a new personal best. Cory Nyamora: Training the Whole Person
Knowledge is power, they say, and if that’s true, then self-knowledge is a superpower. Don’t believe it? You will after listening to the interview Matt and Hanna did with Cory Nyamora, a Kenyan expatriate who now lives in California, where he teaches the power of self-knowledge to a diverse cross-section of athletes and nonathletes in his work as a clinical psychologist, sports psychologist, and endurance coach. An athlete himself, Cory takes a practical, holistic approach to personal growth in sports and life that we know you’ll benefit from hearing.Connect With Cory:Cory's Twitterwww.endurancecenter.orgConnect With Us:@hannadoesfitness@fitzgerald.matt@8020enduranceOffers:InsideTracker | Get 25% off the entire InsideTracker store at insidetracker.com/eightytwenty80/20 EnduranceScience-based training for athletes serious about optimizing performanceDisclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. Endeavorun Roundtable: Live From Boulder
Among the highlights of the recent Endeavorun retreat in Boulder, Colorado, was an all-star expert roundtable. Host Jake Tuber and camp attendees took turns firing questions at Olympic 800-meter runner Kate Grace, “Positive Split” columnist Peter Bromka, Matt's brother from another runner Jason Fitzgerald of the "Strength Running" Podcast, registered dietitian Lydia Nader, and 80/20 Endurance’s own Matt Fitzgerald. Too bad you missed it, right? Wrong! We recorded it, and in this week’s podcast we share the best parts with you. Mark Remy: You Can't Be Serious
There are lots of really funny people in the endurance world, but perhaps none funnier than Mark Remy. You know him as the man behind Dumb Runner, an endless source of hilarious fake news articles, comics, and merchandise that highlight the foibles of us runners. At the outset of our unforgettable interview with Mark, we told him straight up that he’d better make us laugh, and boy did he deliver! But Mark also showed a serious side, and even made Hanna cry. Almost. Okay, not really. Addie Bracy: Ninety Percent Half Mental
Anyone who has ever done an ultramarathon knows that the challenge is more mental than physical. In fact, someone should write a book about mental training for ultrarunning. Oh, wait—someone already did! And not just anyone but Addie Bracy, herself an elite ultrarunner. Addie was kind enough to take time out from coaching a couple of runners preparing for the Leadville Trail 100 to speak to us about Mental Training for Ultrarunning and about the mental side of endurance training and racing generally. No one this fast should be this smart!Connect With Addie:@addiebracy - Instagram@addiebracy - TwitterMental Training for UltrarunningConnect With Us:@hannadoesfitness@fitzgerald.matt@8020enduranceOffers:InsideTracker | Get 25% off the entire InsideTracker store at insidetracker.com/eightytwentyConnect With Us:Hanna @hannadoesfitness, Hanna's JamsMatt @fitzgerald.matt, Matt's Jams80/20 EnduranceSign up for the 80/20 Endurance Newsletter here

James McKirdy: Born to Coach
If you run, and if you have a coach, don’t listen to this episode. Because if you do, you’ll want James McKirdy or one of his McKirdy Trained coaches to coach you, and your coach will be pissed, and she or he will have a beef with us. Everyone else, go ahead and listen to this penetrating interview about the art of coaching, and of being coached, and a whole lot more.Connect With Us:@hannadoesfitness@fitzgerald.matt@8020enduranceOffers:InsideTracker | Get 25% off the entire InsideTracker store at insidetracker.com/eightytwentyConnect With Us:Hanna @hannadoesfitness, Hanna's JamsMatt @fitzgerald.matt, Matt's Jams80/20 EnduranceSign up for the 80/20 Endurance Newsletter here
