Child Q, Black Children Overpoliced and Disproportionately Sanctioned

In this episode, we are joined by Dr. Anna and Dr. Aziza from Black Female Doctors UK, a non-profit organisation of medics, dentists, surgeons, scientists and PhD holders aimed at empowering and supporting each other and our community. We discuss Child Q and how Black students are over policed, usually less supported and disproportionately sanctioned by the educational system.Black female Doctors has a goal to raise much needed awareness and funds to help support the educational and legal needs of ethnic minority children who have been unjustly treated by schools and the police. The intention is for the funds raised to be given to a charity called 'Just for Kids Law' who exist to help children and young people overcome all the difficulties they face, from problems at school and issues with immigration status to trouble with the police. They are also the charity representing Child Q, whose appalling treatment from her school and the police, being strip searched, has left us all heartbroken and devastated.Follow this link to support and learn more about this initiative. #AD BONUS EPISODE: Kids Control the Family Budget

#AD This special episode of Dope Black Dads is sponsored by Starling Bank. Today, we are joined by my children, Blake, 6, and Ocean, 4, who embark on a daring mission to learn about money with the help of the Starling Kite card. Starling Kite is a debit card made for 6-16 year olds and linked to your own Starling account, all with the aim of helping kids learn to spend like an adult and understand the value of money. In the #StarlingKidsTakeover Challenge, Blake and Ocean took over the family budget! We learned so much without it feeling like a lesson, everything went swimmingly, that is until my own kid denied me a haircut! They learned enough to be reticent to splashing cash on their dad! Tune in to hear how our journey went, check out this handy worksheet to help you complete the challenge https://www.starlingbank.com/docs/KidsTakeover.pdf or learn more about the Kite Card here https://www.starlingbank.com/current-account/kite-debit-card-for-kids/?utm_source=podcast&utm_medium=IGstory&utm_campaign=sm.  Hosted on Acast. Bias On A Grand Scale

Marvyn Harrison and Marvin Crichlow discuss topics ranging from the overt racial biases harboured by the global society, and how they play out in the contrasting treatment on display in the midst of Kurt Zouma's controversy, to the online reactions to the leak of an intimate tape of Isiah Rashad, and the homophobic tone that seemed to characterise a number of them, in contrast to many others that showed a collective care for mental health. New Years, Being Present and How To Be a Better Parent

Marvyn Harrison is joined by Umar Kankiya, Marvin Crichlow and Marlon Bruce. The four talk about their new year celebrations and how simple moments such as spending time with family, eating good food and reading a book can be good for one’s state of mind. They also discussed how the pandemic has taught us to slow down, re-evaluate life and be present in the moment, especially when it comes to our children. How can we become better parents?
