105. The Archetype of the Hero Past and Present

Prior to writing my recent piece on the “Hero Myth” I bounced some ideas around of the participants in a group chat dedicated to the scholarship of the Greek and Latin classics as well as the “Great Books.” This generated enough pushback and discussion that I thought it might benefit my readers and audience to have a discussion with Stephen and Joe, exploring the content of the Hero Myth and why they feel it has value in today’s context. Because my piece was written before recording, it also allowed me to develop the “Steward” archetype further and how we might present that alternative to a society that is predisposed to the Hero Myth and resistant to the symbol of the Steward. I think you will enjoy this discussion. Seeking the Hidden Thing is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. 100. Modern Art: Revealing the Hidden Thing

Everyone likes to hate on modern art. Recently Dimes wrote an interesting piece pushing back on this impulse. Since I have decided to retire the “Christian Ghetto Podcast” and integrate all my audio content under the “Seeking the Hidden Thing” banner, why not mark the occasion by having my 100th audio recording under the “Seeking” name also be my first podcast discussion under the actual name of this Substack. I have invited Dimes and Gio's Content Corner. on to both celebrate the moment and have a discussion on modern art in our present political moment. Maybe it will help you to re-think knee jerk reactions to it and appreciate it in a new light. Maybe it will help you see something you couldn’t otherwise see. Maybe the being of our age will be revealed to you. Here is the piece under discussion: We also discuss a number of specific pieces. I have included images in the video for those that want to follow along that way. For those that want to listen, here are all the images in order:Seeking the Hidden Thing is a reader-supported publication.
