White Ladies in Crisis: S02E08 - Species (1995)

April is Joe's pick so we're stepping outside of conventional Erotic Thriller territory into some sci-fi sex-shenanigans with Spieces, which has an extremely 1995 take on feminism and motherhood.Up for discussion: speculating about Alfred Molina's purpose, exploring Marg Helgenberger's shifting role in the film, relating to Natasha Henstridge's Sil (via baby Michelle Williams) and why you shouldn't have sex in hot tubs!Wanna connect with the show?Gena: @genadoesthingsJenn: @jennferatuJoe: @bstolemyremoteMusic Credit: Sexy Time by Anthony VegaIf you like the podcast, please rate, review, and subscribe!Check out Anatomy of a Scream for more great content and the other Network pods.  Hosted on Acast. Bodiesof Horror: Episode 23 - Get Out (2017) and Us (2019)

It's time for a double feature of Jordan Peele’s films Get Out (2017) and Us (2019). Both films not only touch on disability through direct representation via characters, but give us plenty to dissect in terms of broader social-political issues and their impact on (and relation to) the disability community.Additional reading/references:Appropriation in the Disability Community: We Are Our Own Worst Enemy - Ramp Your VoiceWant to reach out and say hello? White Ladies in Crisis: S02E07 - The Hand That Rocks The Cradle (1992)

March is Jenn's pick so we're getting into familial/revenge territory with this month's Erotic Thriller, The Hand That Rocks The Cradle (1992) C/W: sexual assault. It turns out that the film is far more than a killer nanny and an iconic set piece in a greenhouse. It also opens with an uncomfortable sexual assault! Up for discussion: Ernie Hudson's mentally disabled character, Claire (Annabella Sciorra)'s underlying racism, normalizing breast feeding, Julianne Moore's "modern" woman and debates about whether the film is actually an erotic thriller.Wanna connect with the show?Gena: @genadoesthingsJenn: @jennferatuJoe: @bstolemyremoteMusic Credit: Sexy Time by Anthony VegaIf you like the podcast, please rate, review, and subscribe!Check out Anatomy of a Scream for more great content and the other Network pods.  Hosted on Acast. Bodies of Horror: Episode 21 - Rural Horror

Rural horror often brings up images of “cannibalistic mutants” hiding out in the woods, mountains, or desert – ready to kill off the outsiders passing through for their next meal. But it is a subgenre that is more expansive than that.In this episode, I will walk through some of my complicated feelings with the subgenre and how it manages to often feature and completely ignore disability connected to its characters.Shoutout to Horror Queers and their fantastic Patreon series on the subject (March 2021) for being my inspiration for this episodes. If you have the means and are looking for wonder content from two amazing people, please support them. Additional reading/references: Hillbilly horror: Reckoning with a genre 15 years after "Wrong Turn" Want to reach out and say hello?
