154: Ruth Coker Burks | Part 2
Merry Christmas! Yesterday, December 1st, marks the start of Christmas but also World Aids Day, so how do we merge such an important day with all the joy of Christmas? With a chat with Ruth Coker Burks, that’s how. Ruth nursed men dying of AIDS in 1980’s Arkansaw USA when even doctors wouldn’t go near them and their families had disowned them. She buried them on her family plot undercover of night because she knew these people needed dignity. Her patients survived 2 years longer than average because she gave them love. Today, we hear her incredible story, plus your emails about growing up gay in Wales, feeling the LGBTQ+ love if you’re bisexual, and we’re talking all about the Elton John AIDS Foundation. Chris xRuth's book 'All the Young Men' is published by Trapeze and you can buy it here!📍H O M O S A P I E N S P O D C A S T📍NEW EPISODE Every Thursday📍Come play with us on socials Facebook & Instagram @Homosapiens📍Email us: Hello@homosapienspodcast.com📍Podcast Host: Acast Hosted on Acast. 153: Róisín Murphy | Part 2
The Wonderful Róisín Murphy is our guest this week. Anyone else had her recent EP on repeat? It's so good. This is a great chat where Róisín tells me all about being schooled on the queer history of dance music by hanging out on the Manchester gay scene, putting Anna Wintour’s nose out of joint (figuratively), and the funniest story about how partying with P Diddy ended with a bump back down to earth. Plus I’m doing some agony uncle-ing and diving in to your thoughts on Harry Styles’ gender non-conforming clothes. Press play and enjoy. - Chris x📍H O M O S A P I E N S P O D C A S T📍NEW EPISODE Every Thursday📍Come play with us on socials Facebook & Instagram @Homosapiens📍Email us: Hello@homosapienspodcast.com📍Podcast Host: Acast Hosted on Acast. 152: Michael Cashman | Part 2
The man who ‘Changed The World’ is what The Guardian called our guest this week - Lord Michael Cashman CBE. On the 18th anniversary of the repeal of section 28 in England & Wales, I chat to Michael about his central role in getting it scrapped. He’s starred in Eastenders, founded Stonewall, helped get most of the civil rights LGBTQ+ people have today so it’s quite the odyssey of a chat with a lovely, warm and funny man all ending with a some chat about spaghetti. Of course. Press play now to find out what the Queen had to say about civil partnership, how Tony & Cherie Blair approached civil partnership, and why this Trans Awareness Week trans rights are more in need of defence than ever before.📍H O M O S A P I E N S P O D C A S T📍NEW EPISODE Every Thursday📍Come play with us on socials Facebook & Instagram @Homosapiens📍Email us: Hello@homosapienspodcast.com📍Podcast Host: Acast Hosted on Acast.
