AI is becoming a crucial part of our personal and professional lives. With increased adoption, the need to address data bias and privacy is more urgent than ever. In this episode of One Vision, Theo chats with Laura Kornhauser and Deniz Johnson from Stratyfy, on their journey from bias detection and mitigation, to driving greater financial inclusion and mitigating risks for financial institutions. There is always going to be bias in the data. The question is not so much so if the data is biased; but more so on how it is biased. It is not a set and done deal, according to Laura. Increasingly, regulators will require more transparency on how decisions are made by algorithms, control on how such such powerful technologies will be utilized — and ultimately, how individuals and small businesses will be impacted. At a time when cybersecurity is a growing concern for Irish businesses, Centripetal have taken the decision to open its European Cyber Intelligence Centre of Excellence in Galway, from where it will aim to address cybersecurity opportunities in the UK and Ireland. Ronan talks to David Silke, CMO of Centripetal. However, cybercriminals continue to retain the upper hand. Grant Thornton Ireland reports that the cost of cybercrime in Ireland exceeded €9.6 billion in 2020. With the opening of Centripetal’s European Cyber Intelligence Centre of Excellence, the company will bring its innovative, patented technologies to the European market to protect organisations from every known cyberthreat, which will also in turn bring 50 cybersecurity jobs to Ireland, and work to democratise access to technology positions away from the large tech centres in the UK.
